I am in the process of configuring my CH Fighter stick for DCSW and having some difficulty with the "views". Essentially, all I want are 3 views, "cockpit view", a FSX style "spot view" controllable with the HAT switch and a FSX style "tower view". I need some advice on which ones to select in the DCSW controller setting menu to achieve this. (cockpit view is OK) The myriad of available views listed is a bit confusing & bewildering to this novice beginner ! Thanks. Buster

The only thing in the TEMP folder SETUP LOG Txt relates to the installation of the Razbam Harrier I did last year ! Can you clarify which TEMP folder and where ? Not sure what you mean by " run admin command line in the game install dir" If you could kindly explain that a bit more clearly, I will give it a shot. I have aircraft 4 modules installed. Keep in mind that I am new to all this. Thanks for your patience.

Well now this is interesting, I have the new download going on my work PC as it has a fast internet connection. Browsing the DCSW files on my gaming PC I notice that the autoupdate cfg, autoupdate log and autoupdate dat are back in place. I clicked on the DCSW desktop icon, the updater kicked in and brought me up to the latest version. The DCSW main interface still says the old version though ! Here is the log' === Log opened UTC 2014-07-29 22:19:44 INFO : DCS_Updater/2.4.1.59 (Windows NT 6.1.7601; Win64; en-US) INFO : cmdline: "G:\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe" --apply update C:\Users\TIMBRO~1\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS\update_info.json 1.2.9.30604.475 STATUS: Initializing... Maybe ED can fix this issue of the updated version not showing up correctly in the main interface in the next update ?

Thanks Coff, I see another new version now available so I will re-install, downloading now, appreciate your assistance. Cheers. Buster.

So, if i run repair it will restore the cfg file, then if i run DCSW it will restore the dat, is that correct or am I screwed because I took duff advice and deleted both !? Should I just bite the bullet and re install ?

Mastif, I deleted the autoupdate and dat files as you suggested, ran repair and DCSW. The Autoupdate window appeared and confirmed that it is updated to 27915. The log also confirms it here. === Log opened UTC 2014-07-19 23:23:49 INFO : DCS_Updater/2.4.1.59 (Windows NT 6.1.7601; Win64; en-US) INFO : cmdline: "G:\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe" --apply update C:\Users\TIMBRO~1\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS\update_info.json 1.2.8.27915.434 STATUS: Initializing... I just bugs me that the DCSW interface STILL states that I am running 27203 ! I also tried the cmd prompt method described by Skatezilla in the sticky here but none of the entries suggested were recognised by the cmd prompt system. Would welcome your thoughts on this guys.

OK, here is the correct log of my last attempt before I downloaded the F15 via Module Manager. Prior to this the normal F15 installer would not let me install because it said I had version 1.2.8.27203. When I launch DCSW,in the lower RH corner of the under the ED logo it says version 1.2.8.27203 ! I have not copied the entire log as it is just a log of the F15 install. I am not sure if I have been updated or not !? === Log opened UTC 2014-05-30 01:52:07 INFO : DCS_Updater/2.3.9.56 (Windows NT 6.1.7601; Win64; en-US) INFO : cmdline: "G:\DCS World\bin\DCS_updater.exe" --apply update C:\Users\TIMBRO~1\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS\update_info.json 1.2.8.27915.434 STATUS: Initializing... OK, F15 installed successfully via module manager. STILL can not update DCSW, went to, START > PROGRAMS> EAGLE DYNAMICS> DCS WORLD> UPDATE DCS WORLD. The update window flashes briefly but does not update ! Any ideas ? Thanks. Buster.

Greetings. About 3 months ago I downloaded DCSW from your site, shortly after installation the auto updater kicked in and brought me up to version 1.2.8.2703. I bought the F15 on sale yesterday and the installer tells me .......... "Cant install f-15C 1.2.8.27915 into DCS World 1.2.8.27203. Please use `update DCS World` menu item and install again " I was sure that the stand alone download version automatically checks for updates when it is launched ? I checked the target in Properties on the single player icon and it is correct. DCSW is on my G drive SSD. G:\DCSWorld\bin\DCS_updater.exe. How do I update to the latest version so I can shove my new F15 in there ? Thanks. Buster.

Enough of the Russian stuff. Phantom, yes please, its a no brainer. The worlds best distributor of MIG parts !! Then a Harrier or Tornado.

Apologies if my comments seemed rude, they were not meant to be. My post was intended as constructive feedback and I had hoped that my comments would be taken in the spirit in which they were meant. Funny how some people interpret things sometimes ! Thanks for the heads up on the Milviz F4 Phantom by the way, looking awesome.

I fully support ED bringing in third party devs, a smart move for sure and I fully appreciate the time, effort and talent that goes into making these high fidelity add ons. What gets me is the choice of aircraft being developed, I stand by my comment that a Hawk has no place in a combat sim. Lets be honest, the bottom line here is sales revenue, if you think the Hawk is going to be a great seller for the DCS platform, I can tell you now, you are going to be disappointed. I think its a shame that all the talent and time is wasted on inappropriate add ons when it could be invested in something like the F4 or other iconic combat aircraft which would be appropriate for the DCS portfolio and create a far better return in sales revenues. The flight sim world is crying out for a Phantom for FSX, P3D and DCS and no one is listening. If two seaters are an issue, why not do it without back seat functionality, its a combat sim, you don't dog fight or ground attack from the back seat ! Incidentally, the last time I checked, the Hawk is a two seater ! Im no Phantom expert but my guess considering its era would be that the rear pit was basically a nav station ? We have a very nice P51 and now a FW190 in dev, why not complement these with a Spitfire and a 109 ? And for jets, a Harrier or Tornado GR4. My point is, choose aircraft that compliment the sim and what is already there. "Stand by to pull me out of the seat if I get Hit"
-
With you on this one Banshee, I have been pushing for a Phantom for some time, It doesn't get anymore iconic than the F4 and would be perfect for DCS and it is the worlds best distributor of MIG parts ! Instead we are getting a BAE Hawk !!?? this is a training aircraft which was the replacement for the Jet Provost, it has no place in a combat sim, what are DCS thinking !? .... it really gets me ! But hey, at least we are getting a FW190 so we have something to fly our Mustangs against instead of other Mustangs !!
-
For me it has to be the Tornado GR4. Been in service since 1975 with 3 airforces and seen action in both Gulf wars, the Balkans and Afghanistan. Still in service today. A fighter / bomber, perfect for DCS and a firm favorite with simers. Second choice would be the F4 Phantom. ( GE & RR Spey variants ) I just hope that some quality vendor/payware designer will please release a decent F-4. How about a model of one of the most produced, most sold. most successful military aircraft ever made or flown, flown by more countries then just about every other military aircraft...whats up with that..not a single decent add-on of this aircraft. Jump in there DCS ! Buster.

SPITFIRE I have not read all posts in this thread but its a no brainer for a WW2 plane for DCS World. If there is a FW190 or 109 in the making then you absolutely must have a Spitfire. But how about a different Spit to all the others out there. I suggest the Mk16 because to my mind it is the most beautifull Spitfire ever made and is the last of the Merlin variants. Its also armed with cannon and machine guns. There are one or 2 at Duxford, on your doorstep ! I also support the requests for a Lancaster or Mosquito. Keep up the great work. Buster.

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
Busterbvi replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I have not trawled through some 600 pages on here so not sure if this has already been requested. For me its a no brainer as to what should be done next for DCS World. The F4 Phantom. (GE & RR Spey variants) The F4-D for the Americans and the F4-J, K & M for us Brits I just hope that some quality vendor/payware designer will please release a decent F-4. How about a model of one of the most produced, most sold. most successful military aircraft ever made or flown, flown by more countries then just about every other military aircraft...whats up with that..not a single decent add-on of this aircraft.
