  1. FC3 was not made because it was a fast and cheap way to put jets in the sim because full modules were taking too long. FC3 is the evolution of LOMAC which is where this whole thing started. And I can't back it up with real hard data, but anecdotally (based on informal polls in forums and posts/responses in forums), I believe FC3 is actually the most successful of the products currently offered in DCS. So your statement that ED "makes more profit" from other modules vs FC3 is at best a guess, and is not supported by the somewhat anecdotal evidence I've seen.
  2. I tend to agree that I'd prefer to see 1) aircraft that fit into the current FC3 time frame (mid 80's through 90's) and 2) more "iconic" aircraft, vs specialty, unique, or obscure aircraft. I quickly created a list of potential aircraft that I though might fit well. I acknowledge that a few of these (2 seat dedicated attack planes) might start to be a little too specialized or less well known. But hey, it's my list! Tornado (UK or German variant(s)) F-16A MiG-21 (PFM?, not sure which variant beside Bis) MiG-23MLD F-14D F-15E F-111F A-6E F-4F/K/M
  3. Aside from the ability to see which airfield you have selected in Nav mode, I actually think these suggestions DO NOT add much gameplay value. But that is just my 2 cents. The number of key presses you need to memorize in FC3 is already pushing the limits since there are no clickable pits. I think adding a bunch of extra Navigation and altimeter related key presses would just further complicate aircraft usage. Short version: Systems depth needs to remain appropriate for a game that utilizes key presses vs clickable pits.
  4. MadDog-1C - Your help (and passion) is greatly appreciated!
  5. Thanks for letting me know. I was continuing to post additional issues to try to be helpful, not necessarily thinking no one was listening.
  6. Arrived. SSD installed. DCS reinstalled. Mission loaded in approximately 1 minute. No stutters during mission. NONE. Success!!!
  7. OK. I'm having a hard time getting it to show up in the forum post after linking through imgur. But trust me, it's there.
  8. First image taken in "Nav" (pressing '1'). Second image taken immediately after, only difference is I pressed '7' for A/G mode. Cockpit got darker when entering A/G mode.
  9. This is the second mission in the A-10A The Valley campaign. As the plane rolls, some sort of reflection of the fog "opens up" on the canopy. Rolling back level it goes away. This was present throughout the entire mission. Difficult to explain with text and screen shots. Best to fly mission and look out the side of the canopy while rolling back and forth.
  10. Was able to get all three tanks with CBUs on the first mission (again, only by using labels to see through trees and buildings). On the second mission, there was significant fog which I don't remember in previous versions, which made it very difficult to find targets without labels (especially for an A-10A without a targeting pod). The primary targets were relatively close the steerpoint, but the image in the briefing no longer matches the actual topography around the primary targets. Again, completing this mission (#2) would not have been possible without use of the F10 map and labels to figure out where targets were. Briefing image (and possibly steerpoint info) needs to be updated so player can find targets.
  11. Thanks guys. Just ordered one of these. From what I can tell, it should be the right thing. Will be here tomorrow! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0764WCXCV/ref=od_aui_detailpages00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I may initially just install DCS on it, as I don't know if I'm ready to take on a fresh new windows installation and reinstalling everything else this weekend.
  12. I'm hoping to get some guidance or advice on whether or not a RAM upgrade or adding an SSD will significantly improve performance of DCS on my system. First, here are my specs: Sager NP8671 17.3" Notebook, i74720HQ (3.6GHz), GTX 970M (3.0GB), 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB 7200RPM HD, TrackIR 4, CH HOTAS and rudder pedals I know there are many that will say it's a laptop and waste of time. However, I am very happy with the FPS I get right now (I don't actually measure it, but it's very smooth) and the level of eye candy I'm able to turn on. Let's just assume that a desktop upgrade isn't an option at the moment. There are just two items I'm looking to improve: 1. Load times - Usually between 3-5 minutes from the time I select a mission until it's loaded and I can fly. These are relatively simple missions, as well. Today I flew the SU-25T target practice mission and it took 5 minutes to load. I think the first mission in the A-10A campaign was about 6 min the other night. 2. Stutters/pauses - seem to occur randomly, and usually more often toward the start of a mission. These are pauses that are usually a few seconds long, not to be confused with FPS dropping so low it looks like stuttering. Neither of these are deal breakers. I'd probably like to address the stutter more than the load time issue. Here are my questions: 1. I can add a 120GB SSD for $45. I know that will help with load times, but what would I realistically expect? Would it take the 5 minute load down to < 1 minute? (I could order the HD now and have it delivered by Amazon by the end of the day and be running DCS on it tomorrow!) 2. Will the SSD help with the stutters/pauses? (Maybe if it has something to do with loading textures from the HD...?) 3. I can add another 8GB of RAM for < $100. Will this help with the stuttering? I know it's often suggested, but at the same time I see people with 16-32GB with stuttering. So not sure how much going from 8 to 16 will help. I'm happy to use CPUz or GPUz or task manager to track RAM, GPU, or CPU usage during a flight if that information will aid in answering my questions. Thanks!
  13. I am using control manager, but I still assign my axis in DCS. For rudder, I think you need to clear the default assignment and assign axis Z. Toe brakes are X and Y.
  14. Actually, after looking at the files today, it looks like ED actually updated this file in the 2.5.1 patch and didn't include it in the notes. When I first opened the file before patching, the deviation_error_speed_sensor values for the BMPs was 0.1. However, after patching to 2.5.1 those values are changed to 0.2 (as suggested by msalama). I confirmed this by going back to my release branch folder, where the values are still 0.1. So, it's possible that the end result you saw (which is a very good thing), was from the change ED finally made in the patch. It would take more testing to know if it's from your change, or ED's.
  15. Just as a quick follow up. This has not been addressed in 2.5.1. Also, I decided to try and see if I could get past the mission to check additional missions. I was able to get 2 of the tanks using labels and CBU-97s. However, the 3 tank wasn't killed with any CBU, AGM65, or 2 gun runs. It was after this that I used F7 and found that the tank had driven inside a building during the course of the mission and physically impossible to kill. The campaign is unplayable even using all aids available.
  16. Wow! Thanks for this tip! Do you have any suggestions for new values for the different WSNs?
  17. In the release version, the targets and ground objects have still not been adjusted in the A-10A The Valley campaign to make it playable. (originally reported here in the 2.5 Beta bug forum https://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=201187). This image shows the 3 primary targets, two of which would be completely undetectable in an A-10A without use of labels. Also, their proximity to trees and buildings would render many weapons useless. Close up of target #2 Close up of target #3 Also, this guy is still chillin' on the roof.
  18. Anyone know if/when FC3 campaigns will be updated for 2.5? I'm having a hard time getting into things with only random generated single missions.
  19. I tried that a few days ago and it crashed the sim.
  20. Runs great on my laptop. At least as good as 1.5, if not even a little smoother. I'm not tracking FPS, but I'd guess I'm close to 30 with fairly high settings in the A-10A Instant Action mission. Sager NP8671 17.3" Notebook, i74720HQ (3.6GHz), GTX 970M (3.0GB), 8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB 7200RPM HD, TrackIR 4, CH HOTAS and rudder pedals
  21. Bump. Still an issue and would really like to see this addressed. Is there a file with values one can manually adjust?
  22. I have had FC3 for a few years now (and tried FC2 very briefly before that), and am an off-and-on simmer. I jump around between titles and have just jumped back to DCS after the 2.5 update. Even thought the A-10A is the aircraft that appeals to me the most in FC3, I have never been able to get past the 4th or 5th mission (I forget exactly which one) in the "The Valley" campaign. It seems the mission designer placed the SA-11 site to the North to intentionally force the player to fly low in the A-10A, into the engagement envelope of all the mobile AAA and mobile SAMs. I can see why this would be the case and could theoretically make the missions more fun. However, at some point in DCS World development, the gunners on BMPs and Tanks (not to mention ZSU's) became laser accurate. I find it impossible to use CBUs in CCIP mode or the GAU8 without getting torn to pieces. I'm not an expert pilot, but I try to stay fast, jink, and only fly directly at the target for the minimum time possible to employ a weapon and then break off. I still get shot down by the seemingly omniscient and incredibly skilled gunners. In the 20 or so times I've played the A-10A instant action mission in DCS World, I think I've completed it successfully only once, and it was because my wingman had a 100% hit ratio with his AGM-65s. Once I get through my AGM-65's, I always get shot down when trying to continue the attack with CCIP CBUs and the GAU8. I don't remember the gunners being nearly as deadly in FC2... So anyway, I can't progress through the only campaign included for the A-10A, because I'm forced to fly so low I will almost certainly get shot down. Maybe I could only use AGM-65's and fly back to re-arm several times during each mission, but not using the GAU8 or any dumb bombs through the entire campaign would seem a bit odd. I was curious to find out from anyone else that flies the A-10A if there are some techniques or strategies I need to practice and perfect to get through these missions, or if they are, in fact, somewhat "broken" due to the deadliness of the gunners on ground vehicles. Thanks!
  23. You guys are all missing the point. I was just trying to point out that I thought the tree looked out of place, whether I was on glide slope or not. It's been reported. DCS can decide to do what they want.
  24. Yes... smaller airports of course come with all sorts of strange obstacles and things that make for interesting approaches. I don't think a large airport like Batumi would have that. Anyway, not that big of a deal. Looks like no one else minds it. And yes I was landing from an irregular direction. Cheers.
