Nvidia release a new set of drivers(I'm installing it at the moment, will report back with results once I finish testing) which adds HBAO+, or ambient occlusion for non-supported games. http://www.geforce.com/whats-new/articles/nvidia-geforce-331-40-beta-drivers-released I'll quote Nvidia on this: Direct download link: http://www.geforce.com/drivers Read more about it on this thread too: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=90613&highlight=ambient+occlusion

I think it is a bad choice if they do choose to do that. I might just be an armchair geek, but I'm pretty sure the A-10 is the PERFECT plane for today's battlefield. Lots of payload and loiter time, plus popular with the troops and feared by the enemy. If they, indeed do this, it would be a similar decision of using P-51's in the Korean War instead of the P-47's and the retirement/production line closure of the F-14 Tomcat. -BP8fRbuadA Preaching to the choir, I know, but the people that has the power to save or doom this plane need to hear it from the troops on the ground and the pilots.

X52 going bonkers with remapped axis
drmagnumwolf replied to drmagnumwolf's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Nope, I didn't. But thanks for the idea. I'm starting to think it could be the weather, or something else. Yesterday I had my PC overheat while playing DCS. (Even if I cleaned up its fans a month ago, has 2 enormous fans sucking "cool" air in, and a gigantic fan blowing hot air out and it 's CPU is water cooled.) -
X52 going bonkers with remapped axis
drmagnumwolf replied to drmagnumwolf's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I HAD one, as soon as I found out this was one of the reasons, I took the card out of my pc. The latency issues were still present, even after reformats and drive cleaning, but it occurred 50% less. Now I need to buy a PS/2 cable, but "winter" is almost over, and oven like temps has began with dry weather... I can't even be bothered to go out. I might bump the thread when I do buy it and test it. PS: Winter was 2 weeks with balmy temperatures and the rest hot, extra hot and oven :P -
X52 going bonkers with remapped axis

Well, no PS/2 cables. But I did find lots of dust, developed an annoying allergy and found an old ISA board and a pair of old SCSI connector  -
X52 going bonkers with remapped axis
drmagnumwolf replied to drmagnumwolf's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I've already tried doing that a month or so ago to fix another problem I was having(unrelated to X52), but it was a no go as well. I will try to do the fix suggested by karambiatos first, because, so far, the original problem I had(latency issues, crackling and popping of sound) hasn't come back. I think I might have a spare PS/2 cable around here...somewhere. I will give it a go and report back as soon as I try it. If not...I'll have to buy one :music_whistling: Also, I do that because some games and even DCS itself doesn't have an option to insert an AXIS on certain things, like the airbrakes or flaps on A-10A Would that cause any issues with the current SST and the profiles I have? -
X52 going bonkers with remapped axis
drmagnumwolf replied to drmagnumwolf's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
HERE'S HOW TO REPRODUCE IT: Map the slider to directional axis, insert any key, doesn't matter what. Just for the heck of it "X" and "Y". Save the profile, attach to the joystick. Now open the Test Profile, and use the slider... it will display the X and Y, but now do that and move the joystick. *Boom* Crash, and starts flashing. -
X52 going bonkers with remapped axis

Small update: Well, the magnet mod makes my flying soooooooooooooo much better. The bad news: Any remapped axis and the joystick is a gonner and I'm heading for the ground. -
X52 going bonkers with remapped axis
drmagnumwolf replied to drmagnumwolf's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well, I go to the profile editor and select the ministick(for example) and I change it to "directional axis", it will display me 2 options or 2 new entries, positive and negative. I can't remember the keystroke I was using on it(this happens on every simulator or game or even on windows itself, so its not DCS), but lets use K and L as an example I map K and L for positive and negative axis respectively. If I try to use the joystick or even touch the ministick, it will crash. The joystick will stop functioning and the ministick will never deliver its input. Now, if I even, remotely think of using the pinky switch + any axis that has been remapped, it will instantly stop functioning(wont even get a few seconds of use before the crash) I've tried a reinstall, a uninstall, cleaned it up in fail safe, and even changed ports(With this problem I decided to transfer the USB connector to a USB hub on my keyboard, so when it crashes I can just move my hand and unplug the USB and plug it again). I can't be ducking around behind my PC to do that, since I'm still recovering from a surgery. Today I decided to open the Joystick at the bottom and check for anything loose, or any that may be causing it. Everything was fine, and since I was already with the joystick open, I decided to do the magnet mod(I'm going to try it now and see how it goes) thanks for the reply guys! :) -
X52 going bonkers with remapped axis
drmagnumwolf posted a topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
*sigh* :noexpression: I didn't want to make this thread, but I have no other recourse. Does anyone know, or maybe have a solution to my x52 problem? Description below: Every time I remap one of the axis, to input a key or a combination of a key. The joystick crashes and goes unresponsive, that means I lose control of the plane, in certain situations the whole throttle and and drivers go bonkers. - Tried driver and software re-install (Software and Drivers 7.0.27.13) - Tried going to some early drivers and it was a no go - I could, probably give it a go with drivers from 2006, but I'm afraid my profiles will be useless. So, where I live a new one is totally out of the question. Here's an example, which is similar to every other product you can find. HOTAS Warthog -> US$$429.99 $71.97 Estimated shipping & handling $501.96 Total before tax $0.00 Estimated tax to be collected $477.46 Import Fees Deposit $979.42 Estimated order total End result, if the local IRS doesn't feel cheeky and charge something extra just for shitz and giggles for some dumb reason whatsoever or the local mail doesn't lose, or damage the package, I will pay US$979.42. And this is still cheaper than US$1,371 from a local retail. And here is me raging on a video, trying to show or display some of the problem. Please notice the flashing LED lights. So, I'm open for any suggestion, until I can leave this hellhole where I currently live in, I have to live with a joystick like that :joystick::cry: -
I've got to say that desk setup is really good and ingenious. I hope you don't mind me saving your photo for, maybe in the far future, build a desk like that. I used to have a similar one, both Wheels and X52 could be used, with keyboard and mouse. It was a dream, and very comfortable(built it myself using an old desk found on the streets with some extra planks). But I had to dismantle it, and throw it away after I moved out of the UK(:cry: I miss London sooooo much). Now on the stick itself, the TM Warthog is just going to be a dream, because where I live now(bit of a hellhole) with taxes I would be paying double(if it arrives, that is, because my last 4 parcels never came) and where I live now is 1/3 the size of where I used to live in he UK. (Price per square meter here is really high) Anyway, I hope you don't mind me using your setup as an inspiration :)

Purchase of A-10C on Steam : lack of CD Key
drmagnumwolf replied to BlackLight_UK's topic in Payment and Activation
Wrong, the analogy to best describe steam is like a mall, and the individual shops are the publishers/sellers/developers. Or think of it like Amazon seller program. For example, when a company goes under, they immediately take the game out of steam's store. Because the company will not be able to receive any further money transfers. And it is ED's fault for not updating the game in steam, not steam's fault for it being outdated. The company prepares the update, uploads it to steam's servers(some set up special dates for roll out) and then the game is updated. One example of this system that can easily be seen is Railworks or Train Simulator. Their page on steam is their own store, and they provide the serial numbers(on this case its valve, since they are using steam as drm) and the company behind Railworks provides the updates, and more products to sell. Steam does not go out of its way to look for products to sell. I suggest you familiarize with the digital store system to avoid further confusion http://www.steampowered.com/steamworks/ To sell your product on steam, you have to enter a very long process and have a commercial account. One of the reasons why greenlight program was launched. Also, if ED used steam as DRM, there wouldn't be any of this problems, since in that way, its Valve/Steam who would supply the keys, not ED. As per request I will not discuss DRM here, and will simply leave this comment as is: Quite a few actually, Ubisfot regretted their always on DRM and activation DRM, and are taking it out..and even apologized for it! Read this interview: http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/11/29/interview-cd-projekts-ceo-on-witcher-2-piracy-why-drms-still-not-worth-it/ So why not say "unlimited" instead? -
Purchase of A-10C on Steam : lack of CD Key
drmagnumwolf replied to BlackLight_UK's topic in Payment and Activation
If as stated in your previous post it was to stop DAY ONE piracy, then there is no need for the DRM anymore or, apparently its limited activations. They could have implemented steam's DRM. The other issue that, sadly, you are overlooking, is that you need the keys to match the ones in starforce servers. It is also ED that provides the keys, and all related stuff to their products, steam simply sells it, provides a platform for selling and transfers the profit, minus their cut, to the developer/publisher -
Purchase of A-10C on Steam : lack of CD Key
drmagnumwolf replied to BlackLight_UK's topic in Payment and Activation
I'm another one of those affected. I have been holding off to buy any starforce protected products for years, but I thought: "meh... they probably sorted out the problems, no need to worry about losing another Burner or having activation problems. Its on steam, and never had any issues whatsoever on steam. Time to buy!" And here I am :disgust::glare::thumbdown: Waiting since the 29th of December.
