what to do.....what to do.....
Sven2157 replied to Maachine's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
You sure can! Sven2157's DCS_A-10C_x52_Profile I designed this from the ground up, as I didn't like the profiles that were available. Also, as I stated, I tried to match the original Gunslinger Profile for Falcon 4.0:AF, as I had grown use to using that sometime ago. After hours of messing around and learning DCS A-10, I found that the Coolie Hat( Pinkie + POV1 ) and DMS( HAT3 on Throttle ) were the 2 most used of the HAT switches. Also note that I just got TrackIR 4 days ago, but still use the POV1 to look around in cases that warrant it. As always, feel free to modify it as you need( credit for the starting point would be nice ;) ) Let me know what you think... *** EDIT *** IMPORTANT!!! Make sure before you load the profile that your slider is in the middle position! 0-5% is for speed brakes retract and 95-100% is for speed brakes extract. However, this is employed with a CONSTANT KEY PRESS! ALWAYS UNLOAD/CLEAR THE PROFILE BEFORE CLOSING THE SAITEK PROFILER SOFTWARE!!! EDIT 2 You may need my DCS Keyboard LUA file: =170=_A-10C_Keyboard EDIT 3 The Keyboard Layout and the file link have been updated to reflect te files combined in one ZIP file and now uploaded to the DCS World User file addess. -

No problem! ;) I completely understand, but if you go with your daughter's needs, you will be able to say to your family, "Daddy's Turn!". LOL! As mentioned by The LT, your Video( GPU )Card in that laptop will ultimately be your demise. Unfortunately, I know of only 2 or 3 laptops that you can upgrade the video card in. The SST Software allows for the mini-mouse to function properly( installs the HID drivers for it ) on the Throttle, as well as profile usage and switching. For example: Here is the profile that I use for My Saitek x52. For those that are familiar, I tried to keep it close to the Gunslinger Profile for Falcon 4.0: Allied Forces that I had grown accustomed to. The profile was created using the Saitek SST Software and then the commands were printed, again from the SST Software to PDF format using freeware called PDF995, so I could print a reference sheet. I am also constantly changing( tweaking ) it here and there. As you can see, I have button functionality for about 30 buttons( this includes the 1 POV Hat and 2 Hats Switches, as they can be assigned to function as 4 or 8-way buttons ), in 6 different modes. The stick has 31 buttons, but I use the "Pinkie Button" as a shift-state button. This allows the other 30 buttons to be programmed differently, than non-shifted buttons. Thus, giving me about 180( 30 buttons * 6 modes ) buttons to help keep a true HOTAS situation. -
Hey RingLord42... Try this link: Updated A-10C Training Missions for DCS World v.1.2.2 I have not tried these yet, so I can not verify them. Hope that helps! ;-)

Forgive me but I must ask, your OS is obviously 64 Bit, correct? Otherwise, you are capped at about 3.5GB± in a 32 Bit OS. If I were you, I would spend the RAM money on your daughter. You'll feel better, and this will allow for you to then better justify setting cash away for a gaming PC. I would get off the laptop ASAP. As far as RAM is concerned in general. At most you need is 4GB of RAM for gaming/day-to-day-work. Most games are programmed to NOT use more than 2GB. I am not sure how DCS have set their 64 Bit version, but I have 32GB of G.Skill RAM, and I have yet to use more than 5GB while my TrackIR, Saitek SST, TeamSpeak 3 and A-10 is running. 8GB+ of RAM is more for doing a ton of Photoshop or 3DS Max work( which I do, and why I have 32GB ), or the like, as these are programs, that are programmed to utilize everything you can throw at it. I just started my first A-10 Paint scheme, and noticed I was using 12GB with the 64 Bit Photoshop CS4 running and ALL the paint kit files open( 12 @ 5.4MB each ). The Saitek X52( not pro ) is what I have and they are relatively cheap now. I do suggest that. The SST Software will help tremendously! If you need a good profile( which will work for both the 52 and 52 Pro ), I could send you mine; just let me know. Hope that helps! ;-) -
 If I just create my own sheet( as opposed to using an existing one like I am ), then I can use any font I like! :megalol: Thanks for rattling my brain!
-
Yeah, I found that already. I was just hoping that some one knew what font was used. I guess I could just eyeball it. Thanks SkateZilla.

Bort Number on Tail See, I can change the color to match my paint scheme, but if I want the 1st number to match the ME generated one, I need to match the fonts. Thanks man... :smilewink:
-
That is REALLY helpful! Thank you! You wouldn't happen to know where to find the FONT Type used for the Dynamic Bort Numbers, would you? I found how the Texture is mapped, but can't seem to find where it directs which font is used.
-
Maybe that is today! ;) I am looking for the font type that is used for the Bort( Tail ) numbers myself, so I have been digging around through these files as well. I have a post that details how to keep the Dynamic Numbering for aircraft painters here: Bort numbers No Longer Needed From what I have found so far, is that these aircarft are highly detailed. Thus splitting them into many sections, which is then brought together by the gaming engine. From what you have posted, I believe that the Ka-50 file you are in, may only be the background textures for the cockpit. You may want to try and look in "~\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World\Bazar\World\textures\Ka-50_general.zip" to see what these textures are; they could the same, just named different. If I come across it looking for my issue, I will post back. :pilotfly:

Really, Master Caution right off the bat ???
Sven2157 replied to Tacyon's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
Congratulations! I wish I had an extra 4 bills for one my self. My X52 is starting to get a bit tired... Look at it this way... When you download DCS World( ~5.13GB ), you are downloading ALL the current DCS products: CA, FC3, BS2, A-10 and P-51D. When you purchase one of the products, or in your case already have one, you are "unlocking" the ability to use the FULL, working aircraft( or Tank/AAA ). You then, need only download the "module" for that product: in this case A-10C( ~331MB ). If you then decided to purchase, say P-51D( ~237MB ), you only need to download the smaller file sized module. This way, all the wonderful DCS products can come together in ONE Multi-Player World( DCS World ). Now, if I own Flaming Cliffs 3 and you, obviously, A-10, and we jumped into a MP Server, I would be able to properly see your A/C and you mine. Hope that helps! ;-) -
Steam only sells DCS A-10C, which is now defunct, as it was last patched to v1.1.1.1. To update to the latest version - v1.2.2 - you MUST have DCS World( ~5.13GB ) and the A-10 Module( ~331MB ). This then unlocks the FULL flyable A-10. DCS World contains all the other programs. This way they can all play in the same Multi-player environment. It you decide to purchase Black Shark 2, then you would just need the BS2 module( much smaller file size ) and a product key. This would then unlock the "flyable" full cockpit for you. This is then true for the other modules; Combined Arms, Flaming Cliffs 3, etc, etc. Hope that helps! ;-)
-
Buy it on Steam JUST to get a key; DO NOT DOWNLOAD IT FROM STEAM! Then download DCS World and install it. Then download the A-10 Module and install it. When you launch DCS World, it will ask you to activate your A-10 module. Open Steam and go to your Library. Left Click DCS A-10 in your Steam Library and on the right side you will "Links". Click on "CD Key" and a window will pop-up. Click the button to "copy to clipboard", paste it into the DCS World Activation window, and Enjoy a truly great Simulator! As mentioned, Steam may still be out of keys, so be aware of that... Hope that helps! ;-) =170= Sven2157

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I landed here via Google. After reading this thread, I started to get a better picture for what was happening with the Dynamic Numbering for Aircraft. I figured that posting here would be better than starting a new thread, as this is the ONLY thread that came up in my results( for this particular issue ); if this is wrong, please forgive me. I found that if you create a DDS file 1024px W X 128px H, in the color you want the Numbers to be, then name it as you wish and save it to the repaint folder with the other texture files, you can then add this into the Description entry of the Liveries file. Original Description lines: {"A-10_Number", 0 ,"TactNumbers-USAF-Light_black",true}; {"A-10_Number_Noze_F", 0 ,"empty",true}; {"A-10_Number_Noze_T", 0 ,"TactNumbers-USAF-Light_black",true}; {"A-10_Number_Wheel", 0 ,"TactNumbers-USAF-Light_black",true}; Please note that I am working on this paint scheme( 170th Carbon Fiber ), and was trying to work this out. I will upload the file to the "User Files" when the paint is complete. You can see the dynamic number bleed through the "painted on" number: Updated Lines for color change( NOTE: "170th_TactNumbers-USAF-Blue" is what I called my file, call yours whatever you like ): {"A-10_Number", 0 ,"170th_TactNumbers-USAF-Blue",true}; {"A-10_Number_Noze_F", 0 ,"170th_TactNumbers-USAF-Blue",true}; {"A-10_Number_Noze_T", 0 ,"170th_TactNumbers-USAF-Blue",true}; {"A-10_Number_Wheel", 0 ,"empty",true}; Again, you can see the number bleed through, but this time it is the same color as the Paint scheme: Now if I just remove the last 2 digits from the paint, I can use the ME to number the aircraft: As an added element of "proof", you can see that the nose changed, but under the front of the canopy I have not painted the first digit in: Hope this helps! ;-) =170= Sven2157
