  1. Actually, CAT IIIc has been around for a while and the airport is not the limiting factor. In a 0/0 environment, the aircraft would have no way to taxi off the runway to the terminal which is why it is not used. A 747 cockpit is about 35 feet off the runway I think and they would have to have a tug come and pull them to the gate. The equipment and airports are capable of it, just no way to move around once you land. John
  2. aaron; Yes sir, I flew through it. I agree; if I am on the runway centerline, the localizer should be straight up regardless of my heading for that brief moment. I came in on a heading of about 235 for Rwy 13 and when I went through 130 degrees I never saw a steering bar for the localizer. I flew the ILS training mission again last night and I saw that the yellow steering bars kind of "jumped" alive in that one as well. I think if you have "pegged" them they do not always slide back but seem to jump back onto the AH. I need to focus on the CDI and the glideslope indicator on the far left of the artificial horizon and run it again. I am used to the needles moving more smoothly through the travel I guess. I appreciate the feedback, and at least you can pause this guy and sort it all out as opposed to those days doing real IFR down to 800 feet. Never mind 200 and 1/2 in the real world for CAT I. Never had to do one in that poor of conditions. John
  3. I finally figured out that I had the needles in the STOW position on the Nav panel which was driving me crazy. I took a flight from Kobuleti to Batumi. I set up a nice glide on about a 90 angle to fly through runway 13. I flew through the localizer and the yellow needle never appeared. I then made a hard bank to the left and then it suddenly showed up. I had the morse tone the whole time and once the needles appeared it seemed to work fine. Q: Can you have TACAN and ILS selected at the same time? I realize the sim will let both buttons show the green triangle, but I am not sure what you actually register with the needles on the CDI? I am an actual IFR rated pilot, so it seems like the needles should have come alive when I flew through the localizer and "slid" across the CDI as I went through it. Any thoughts on what I am missing and my question? thanks! John
  4. Windows 8, 64 bit. Works great.
  5. Got it, thanks. When I create the waypoints, I drag them around and it displays the Lat/Lon coordinates. If I want to tweak those (so I can be precise with the Entry/Exit point as an example), I don't see a way to actually type in the coordinates. I can alter them in the CDU once the jet is up and running, but that seems to be the hard way. Ideas? Thanks again for your help. John
  6. There is skill Player (in yellow), and Client (in grey). I chose Player and it works. What is Client? John
  7. Thanks! I think in about 10 years, I will be able to fully enjoy this:) John
  8. OK, I must be dense. I save the mission, and then start it up. the plane starts on its own in a hangar and starts taxiing out. I hit F1 to go inside and nothing.... How do I get to fly the thing? Sorry, must be very obvious. John
  9. I have begun to get the knack for cold starting, taxiing, takeoffs, open flying around with some base navigation to waypoints, and then still working out landings:) I have gone in and created a simple mission with one aircraft group and one plane. I added 4 points; 0 - 3, with 0 being takeoff and 3 being the Entry Point from the VAD chart. I set some waypoint altitudes and made them all turning points. Am I doing this right to just make a free flight, no combat, no other aircraft mission? Not sure where the best place to start is for this. Thanks. John
  10. I will give that a try when I can get some play time later. Thank you. John
  11. VAC works like a charm. Just make sure you run it as an administrator or nothing happens. Giving up on Microsoft's version. John
  12. I do have the focus on the sim. The cursor (the yellow cross) will briefly disappear while the VR window says "pressing keys". I have downloaded VAC and since it has a trial, I will try that out. Seems odd to me. John
  13. DXTweak shows that everything is working OK. When I use RCRTL + ENTER in the sim I see some "wierd" behavior with the pedal brakes. They don't always seem to return to zero when released. I will continue to mess around to see if I can see what is going on. John
  14. RCtl + ENTER!! Thanks. Probably didn't read hard enough, sorry.
  15. They are driving me crazy with the Saitek Pro Pedals. I cannot seem to get them calibrated correctly, and the last flight I came out of the revetment and I began to turn right with the brakes. When I released it the bird kept turning right into the wall and then I was stuck. Had to start over as you can't back it up:). I turned off the brakes axis and I can fly and land just fine by using only the wheel brakes, BUT I don;t always know if I have them on or off. Is there some kind of "cue" that the wheel brakes are set? I am thinking like in FS2004 and FSX you get the text line saying "Brakes". Thanks. John
  16. I have trained voice recognition that comes with Win8. I want to use it for ATC, and have confirmed that when I speak "Press Fx", I get that key press. The small window that speech rec shows changes and says "Pressing Keys". But nothing happens in the sim?? When I then push the Fx key on the keyboard it works fine. The sim works just fine when I am speaking and the mic is "listening". If I speak "What can I say", I get the windows screen showing the commands so I know it is working. The sim is already running when I do this. Thoughts? I am using DCS a-10C. John
  17. Download the manual from here: http://ts.thrustmaster.com/eng/index.php?pg=view_files&gid=1&fid=3&pid=311&cid=6 Click the software line in choose link and you will see TARGET. John
  18. What I basically ended up doing was: Open the TARGET software and create a new configuration for the MFD. Name it and remember where you put it as you will run the config as listed below every time you want to use the new settings. Assign NOTHING to any of the buttons. Run the configuration. Run the sim and remove any settings mapped to the MFD. It will now be seen as Thrustmaster Combined on the controls menu in the sim. Find the action item you want and then assign an OBS button to it using the Thrustmaster Combined column. Seems to be odd that the TARGET software doesn't do anything but basically load an empty profile to the sim that you then use to assign what to what. I am sure I am missing something, but it seem to work for me:) John
  19. Got it:) I needed to recycle everything and it worked. Many thanks and I apologize for being dumb. john
  20. It was Press. I changed it to pulse and the event tester now sshows a press and release. When I go into DCS and push the button nothing happens. I have that key mapped to the HUD day/night function on the keyboard. I still need that one correct since it won't know what to do without it?
  21. OK, so now my event was to press the key (I have assigned the day/night HUD switch to OBS10 on the MFD). It now looks like I am getting a continuous pressing of that key as in Word it is as if I am holding the key down. What is the sequence to do a press and release in the Target program? Sorry, you answering will probably be quicker:) John
  22. OK I will admit that I don't seem to be able to sit down and read all these manuals, but this one escapes me. I run the TARGET GIU. I create a new configuration I assign a simple keyboard button to one of the OBS buttons on MFD1 I save the fcf file I run the script and do an event test and the OBS button shows the keyboard key ?? How do I get that configuration to then load into the A10C? When I run the sim and go to the controllers page, the MFD configuration is the old one. The TARGET manual goes from some basic examples of the programming to advanced scripting and that is it. What am I missing? Thanks. John
  23. Second iPad I got the second iPad, and it worked great. Now I am pretty sure I won't be using the Cougar MFDs. I haven't changed the recommended settings, and the MFD displays are a bit fuzzy. I was wondering what the "hit" would be by using the higher display resolution. Thanks. John
  24. Will do! Can you run a second iPad as well? Just wondering as that would require less swiping. Probably get a fps hit though. John
  25. Do you have any examples of how to start this? I am reading and seeing lots of references on it, but I am wondering if there is a primer some where on how to get started. Sorry, there seems to be so much out there. Thanks. John
