  1. There is a known shadow bug in 2.8, if you are getting bad VR performance try turning shadows off you should get it all back. If you cannot stand to play with shadows off set them all to high (the other options aren't make a difference right now) and try turning down render resolution or something to compensate.

Unfortunately it doesn't solve it. 😞 Mouse still tracks as if always at desktop resolution.
If I change the desktop resolution before running the game (so that both desktop and game have same resolution) then all seems to be fine.

The point here is -and to quote Tippis on a good reply above- having to fiddle with anything like the control panel or desktop resolution settings (before entering the game AND after leaving the game) just to fix a single game's shortcoming, is the ultimate proof that it needs to be fixed, because that level of faff should never, ever be needed.

I was stuck trying to fix this windowed resolution issue when using a custom resolution for an hour today (wanted to run at 3072 X 1728 on a 4K screen to increase FPS) but 1440P looks crap when you have seen 4K.

Although it is not ideal setting the Desktop resolution to 3072 X 1728 fixed the issue for me.

DCS must have some custom code somewhere that "stretches" more standard sized lower resolutions on a 4K monitor but not custom resolutions.

Anyway my FPS has gone from 35-45 to 55-70.

It should definitely be an option in the base game without changing Windows desktop settings, it would help so many people out with performance issues.

Tried the 7900xt last night and was very disappointed.  Frames were about the same or worse then my 6800xt.  BAR had a noticeable negative impact on frames.  Overall about 30-40% less fps then the 4080 I returned.

6800xt=50fps sitting on the ramp in F5 on Caucus however frames seemed to drop more during flight then the 7900 (relatively speaking, frames didn’t seem to drop in flight as much with the 7900 but they were still lower overall in flight as well with the 7900xt) to about 40-45.

7900xt = 42fps dipped into the high 30’s in flight  saw high gpu utilization throughout (high 90's with 99% most of the time I was looking at it).

4080 = 60fps  rock solid 60 or more in flight, gpu utilization was often below 90%, down to as low as 75%

I’m currently running a 5800x3d with 32 go ram at 3400 with g2 in open xr.  Cleaned up drivers with ddu after every gpu swap.  Also probably worth mentioning that my 6800xt is overclocked/undervolted.  I did not change anything for the 7900xt except BAR.

On a sub note, the low gpu utilization of the 4080 is weird because if I turned on FRS with my 6800xt in VR and ran a low resolution I could easily get 90fps, which seems to indicate on this map (same for all comparisons) that I am not CPU limited.

That is really disappointing news to hear, but thanks for sharing.
I think I will wait and see if Vulcan / AMD driver updates improve the situation in the next 6 months.
I cannot justify the price of a RTX 4090 as most are going for £2,000+ in the UK that's a months wages

  4. I have not noticed this problem with my G940 and the A10C II, maybe try a DCS repair? or make sure you haven't got centre spring emulation turned on in the Logitech Software?.

Edit, Oh I know what your problem is, you need to put a peice of tape over the hand sensor, it is the first thing I did 10 years ago and had forgotten about it.

It is a safety device so all force feedback movement it disabled when your hand is not on the stick, but it is annoying.

    IMG_1838.JPG

just cover it with some tape, preferably black.

SimFFB might help you out but I only ever used that for flying the KA-50 BlackShark.

Also if you haven't already you should really install fred41's unofficial firmware patch for the G940.

It make the HOTAS so much better, especially the throttle when trying to A2A refuel!

  5. That sounds like the processor is the bottleneck then, you might be able to bump up your graphics settings without losing any FPS if your GPU is not at 100% but DCS VR does hurt performance more than almost anything so who knows!

DCS have inefficient VRAM usage structure. (Especially in multiplayer)

Therefore,  It's better to vram headroom be adjusted sufficiently.

In my case, possible to play normally on Growling Sidewinder Server.

    My system

    RTX3080, Ryzen5 5600, oculus quest 2 link(not air, 80hz 5408x2736, bitrate 350), 36GbRAM

texture medium, terrain texture low, shadow low, cockpit dosplay res 512, msaa x2 , af x4, pd 1.0

I'm setting up conservative for the vram headroom.

Do you get a solid 90FPS on Quest2 with those settings on a RTX3080? because if you where running flat screen you would be getting 200+ FPS I'm sure.

  7. Have you checked your Resolution settings in SteamVR? Are you using Oculus link with a cable or Virtual desktop wireless though Steam VR?

I don't have the Steam Version so not sure how the VR Stack works, maybe try downloading the Stand alone version instead???

Just a heads-up for users who don't have the supercarrier addon, the included familiarization missions don't work properly and you have to edit them changing the included carrier to CVN-74 Stennis

Yes! , I had to figure this out the hard way (multiple what I thought were perfect traps) and some Googling!!
T-45 Seems a bit easier to land than the Hornet :joystick:

  9.  I can put some files in \Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Mods\aircraft\ and it changes them in the game.

but if I try to say mod the texture on a old aircraft by using: \Saved Games\DCS.openbeta\Bazar\World\textures\WorldTexturesBMP1.zip

then it doesn't seem to work for me.

Are there restrictions on which folder can be modified with though the saved games file area?

or am I just doing something Wrong?

Hello, time ago tried to build a custom Su24M MOD, but it's time consuming and lot things to do and build, start from 3D, EFM finished with ASM.

So to go with Community MOD lot of work is need :

    Starting from start :

     - 3D models (External and Internal) Build or buy.

     - Technical or functional things or necessary.

     - Coder for systems and instruments.

     - At Last testers (People from the field 😉 )

So : 3D models are must

Some screenshots from a personal work, but it's far to be released, used DCS External Model and custom build Cockpit

Any one want to joint DEV TEAM is a welcome but, must come with a personal built work, contribution or data to show his skill (Sorry for that).

    Thank you for your comprehension

    Fly safe and Have fun

    Regards.

So this is a separate SU-24 mod to Morkva_55's mod? why don't you try to pool your resources?

These Mods look sweet! I hate the SU-24M 3D model that is currently in the SIM, it is about 20 years old.
Are they still being worked on at all?

I know how hard it is to make DCS Mods because I have created a few in the past and they seem to break with every major update to the game!

Hopefully we could get a Beta release of this, this year?

Maybe I've found my solution. It's interesting that he says his girlfriend, who has a small head, now finds it comfortable to wear, as I do have a small head myself!

Yeah I was going to say a Studio Form type headstrap place near the front really helps to stop the HMD slipping down and helps with comfort.

    https://www.studioformcreative.com/product-page/go-quest-deluxe-strap-black -only $16.95

I have a Quest 2 and use this strap and also use a counter weight and it is pretty comfortable.

I might try a cheap halo strap later in the year but don't know how much more comfortable I need it.

Hi all, I noticed that after 2.7 the MFCDs in the Syria map are really dim now.  They are fine in the Persian Gulf map though.  Has anyone else experienced this?  I can hardly see the TPOD display in CCD mode even with the brightness turned all the way up in Syria

Are you sure it is on day mode and not night mode? Switch on top left. If you start early in the morning it can be on night mode but already be too light out to see it properly .

Managed to remember how to get her started up yesterday evening, although for some reason I couldn’t get NWS to work

Are holding down the nose wheel steering button or pressing it? it is not a toggle like in the A10C you have to hold it on (at least that is how I use it) also the switch by your left knee needs to be on or on high gain if you want really tight manoeuvrability on the carrier.

  14. I know a lot of people do not like them (especially on Hoggit) but the Grim Reapers often put out update videos when there are changes.

I only got the Harrier in a Sale last year , but I think you will mainly be ok , only small things have changed in each procedure (like making sure you hit the Designate button on the map page to enable Auto bombing ccip line) It is a great aircraft and Vtol operations are unique in DCS at the moment.

  15. If any one lands here from Google , like I did.

you just need to add these lines to the FC3 keyboard files:

Make sure Notepad++ runs in Administrator mode, or you cannot save the file.

    --NVG
    {combos = {{key = "H", reformers = {"RWin", "RAlt", }}, }, pressed = iCommandPlane_Helmet_Brightess_Down, name = "Gain goggles down", category = "Sensors"},
    {combos = {{key = "H", reformers = {"RWin", "RCtrl", }}, }, pressed = iCommandPlane_Helmet_Brightess_Up, name = "Gain goggles up", category = "Sensors"},
    {combos = {{key = "H", reformers = {"RWin", }}, }, down = iCommandViewNightVisionGogglesOn, name = "Toggle goggles", category = "Sensors"},

For a10 for example add to:

    C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\Flaming Cliffs\Input\a-10a\keyboard\default.lua

    and in:

    C:\Program Files\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\Flaming Cliffs\Input\a-10a\joystick\default.lua

if you want to map it to the joystick as well
