  1. Thanks guys. I didn't think they were vastly different. I'm considering buying the P-51 so was wondering if there was any major differences.
  2. Hey all Just wondering, aside from the lack of weapons, is there any difference between the P51 and the Tf51? TIA
  3. Some good flying there. I still maintain, that I don't need a new HOTAS, certainly not one as expensive as Komodsim's or other companies products. I did another test flight today though, inspired by your video, my rudder axis seems a little twitchy so I might switch that to the left stick rather than the triggers on the gamepad but I also started using (again) my Leo Bodnar board with 3 10 turn pots on it to use one as the collective - works miles better than anything else I've got for the collective. Just wish I could turn it into a proper short handled (12" long would be ideal) collective stick... Anyhow here's the video, ignore the startup, 1st takeoff, and 1st bad landing (as per the video description) and pretty much anything other than my hovering attempt, nowhere near as good as your flying but I'm a relative noob anyway and I was just seeing what I could do, I'm also aware I'd likely have crashed due to the lighting posts to my left and right if they were collidable - [ame] [/ame]
  4. Funnily enough I've tried that also. Although I don't find that as easy as with a HOTAS or a gamepad. I've had a look at Komodo sims stuff, and if I can fly fine with a gamepad I can't see that I can justify the expense for Komodo sims stuff (I worked out it's about £1500 for fulll helicopter HOTAS!!) and I can't say I'd fly any better seeing as I'm equally as good with a pad as I am my current X52 Pro. £1500 vs =<£30 for a PS3 gamepad? I dunno though, I'm going to see if I can rescue Stray Eagle using my pad, traditionally I've had problems with the X52 Pro when making the ascent up the side of the hill he's on and then descending to land near the smoke - I want to see how using my gamepad fairs in comparison. Maybe I just had a very good night last night in a virtually empty Huey.
  5. Hey all I've probably mentioned this before, but I thought I'd post again about it, as it always astounds me... I've recently considered upgrading from a Saitek X52 Pro to either a Saitek X55 Rhino or a Thrustmaster Warthog (preferred), however I have in the past tried using a PS3 controller on my PC (using MotionInJoy and Better DS3), so tonight as I couldn't be bothered setting up my X52 I thought I'd give the pad a go. Here's my results, a short hover test in the Huey, then a short flight and coming back in for landing: [ame] [/ame] Not perfect by any means, I was way off the runway for a start, but I seem to be able to hover far better with the pad than I do my X52 Pro and I'm just as good (or bad whichever you want) at normal forward flight/descent, in fact I found it easier to descend using my PS3 pad's D-Pad for the collective than I do using the X52 Pro throttle! So, surely I'm wasting money by buying a HOTAS?
  6. I wonder (on either Saitek or Thrustmaster) do the throttles when used separately report as two individual axis? If so I could use one as rudder - I don't think, other than the odd occasion I fly the A-10 in DCS, that I've ever flown anything I need two throttle levers for!
  7. Hey all I know, I know, I should get rudder pedals. Problem is I've experimented with rudder pedals, I bought, and subsequently sold, Saitek Pro Flight rudder pedals. And due to the nature of my space (an L shaped box room with the main space being no bigger than 6'wx8'l) that is also my bedroom, and having no other space to permanently setup a desk or gaming rig I found it impossible to get motivated to setup every time my pedals, fold out lawn chair and stand(s) for my HOTAS, thus I don't play my flight sims unless I can sit on my bed and use a twist throttle (or rudder rocker as I used to have on my Saitek X45). Basically I sit on my 3' wide pine bed with my monitors alongside of it facing me, so I'm kind of sat at a 45 degree angle to the corner of the bed which is up against a wall. I tried creating a wooden rig I can put on my bed to sit on and attach my HOTAS to, and lean up against the wall for "storing" it, but it was highly uncomfortable. Anyhow, I now want to upgrade to a Warthog, pirmarily because my Saitek X52 is at least a year old and it's just never been all that great for me. I'd settle for a Saitek Rhino, but I feel the Warthog would be better. Problem is (as far as I know the Saitek Rhino is the same) there's no twist rudder on the Warthog. I primarily fly Helicopters in DCS but do dabble in WW2 aircraft in IL2 Sturmovik 1946 and Cliffs of Dover. So, I'm wondering, is there an axis or rocker I could use on the throttle that is as easily accessible as the rudder rocker on the Saitek X45 throttle? Any ideas on this would be appreciated. TIA
  8. Hey all Bit of a dumb question but can anyone explain to me, in relatively simple terms, why the Mi-8 rotates in the opposite direction to the Huey? I'm guessing it's because the rotors rotate the opposite way, but I haven't checked, is that right? TIA
  9. Thanks, it's not all that helpful though as it's not all on the one page. The pictures are helpful though.
  10. One similar to this one (the aforementioned Ka-50 checklist) would be great - http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=45398 Thanks.
  11. Hey all I have a Tesco Hudl 2. Currently it's sitting gathering dust because the "shiny new toy" effect has worn off and I don't use it all that often. I've tried using iDisplay to use the tablet as a 2nd monitor and it worked but was rather laggy, and since I updated the table to Android 5.1 Lollipop iDisplay no-long works (and neither do any of the alternatives, not properly for DCS at least), so... ...I'd like to use it for DCS as a document reader, if only for startup checklists and other such documentation (maybe also static maps but I prefer using the kneeboard in game as I can mark my position). Anyone know of such tablet friendly documents? TIA
  12. Hey all A while back someone created a great startup checklist for the Ka-50 that allows you to easily find the switches (because it tells you what panel they're on) and start up the bird in a very quick time. Anyone know of such a checklist for the Mi-8? TIA
  13. Thanks. I thought that was what I would have to do. Worked a treat.
  14. Ah ok. Anyway of changing the coalitions in an existing mission, I can't seem to see that option in the ME and I'd rather not have to create a new mission to do this?
  15. Ah ok. So it is country specifc then. Any way I can change that - I recall there being a way by copying the US voice files over the Russian files for something else, would it work for ATC and ground crew?
  16. Hey all Just downloaded the Mi-8 for Christmas, and I've noted on some videos on youtube that the ground crew all speak English. However in my Mi-8 they seem to be speaking in Russian instead. Now, I don't usually speak to ATC or Ground Crew so I've never noticed it. Is this a Mi-8 thing, a global DCS World thing, or is it down to which country the unit is from (i.e. my ground crew speak Russian because my Mi-8 is Russian?)? Any tips on how I can get English voices throughout in the Mi-8 (and or any other modules actually) would be greatly appreciated. TIA
  17. Hey all I just added a carrier, one of each of the US and Russian carriers available, but I've run into a slight problem. If I fly as the BLUFOR I get shot at by the Russian carrier if I fly as the REDFOR I get shot at by the US carrier. Is there anyway to make carriers neutral? TIA
  18. Thanks but that's not quite what I'm trying to achieve. Primarily I want to display the Ka-50 ABRIS and Shkval on 1 portrait 2nd monitor, with ABRIS in the top 2/3 and Shkval in the bottom 3rd in the same orientation as the display in the cockpit (i.e landscape). I'd also like to be able to display the MFCD's when in the A10 and the kneeboard (for the map mostly) when in the Huey on my 2nd portrait monitor. It would look similar to what you have but wouldn't just be the Shkval (or a single MFCD) taking up the entire monitor. If you can shed any light on this though I'd much appreciate it.
  19. Hey all I went to try out my dual monitor config the other day in DCS 1.5.1, but I found the config file isn't being displayed in the menu so that I can select it. Would anyone know what I have to edit in the the file to make it appear in the options menu so that I can use it? I've attached the file btw. For DCS 1 I used PeterPs mod for all exports and created the monitor setup with that installed, and I'm pretty sure I've got it installed in DCS 1.5.1. TIA for any help on this, I spent ages getting my monitors setup to how I like them for the Ka-50. EDIT - nevermind. I see from reading elsewhere on the internet that multi monitor support is badly broken in DCS 1.5 so even if the profile was recognised it probably wouldn't work anyway (I have 2x monitors, 1 is 1440x900 in portrait the other 1080p in landscape). So much for moving forwards!!! MySetup.lua
  20. Hey all Bit of an odd idea I guess, but now that I've bought a new PC and been able to up the eye-candy and get good FPS in v1.5, I find in the setting sun flying the UH-1H I want to put on sunglasses due to the glare of the sun. Obviously that's a bit silly doing that for real, but is there anyway of making that work in the cockpit in-game, something like a NVG overlay but for the daytime?
  21. I did that also. Didn't work. I get a "Unknown module Ka50-REPUBLIC_campaign" error dialog box pop up. I've opened a support ticket and ED customer support have told me I've tried installing it to the release version, when I've clearly stated I've tried v1.5!! Useless!!! EDIT - I finally managed to get the campaign to install, by following the advice in the last post of this thread - http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?p=2539303 ED really should advise that you may need to run DCS_Updater to update from 1.50.xxx to 1.51.xxx!!
  22. Anyone? Can't download this campaign despite having paid for it. Not particularly happy at the moment!!! This is the message I get when I click the download button on the website - And when I try to install it via the game menus (v.15 available DLC menu) I get a "Unknown module Ka50-REPUBLIC_campaign" dialog error box pop up!! And yes I have Ka-50 installed in v1.5. Probably asking in the wrong place but would any ED reps care to comment on why money is being taken when people (maybe it's just me?) can't even download the product?
  23. Would love to try this campaign out, but why is it when I go to buy this campaign the page states the files are not available?
