  1. Yep next time it happens (assuming it happens again) I will. Don't think I have a track of it when it happened as I've done other missions since.
  2. Gentlemen, I am using the "co-pilot/autopilot" for level flight to a) see what position they have their controls in so that I can match it with mine using trim to achieve reasonable flight - this is how I currently learn to fly. b) for level flight when I'm checking the map, setting the radio to a beacon or when I have to go a long way (my arm tends to ache a bit if I'm flying for more than 5 minutes with my hands on the stick). It doesn't matter if it's a "cheat" or not, it is there as though the co-pilot is real. The topic isn't about the presence of the autopilot/co-pilot or it being a "cheat" however, it's about it doing weird things, like in my case where it was trying to do a loop the loop. Thanks.
  3. Hmm, I probably need to learn how to use the comms then (still haven't worked out which buttons etc. to press for talking to ATC etc.). The mission gives a frequency for an NDB for that FARP but it doesn't pinpoint the FARP on the F10 map or anything else apart from the compass, and unless you know exactly where you're going you'll end up going round in circles, well I do and did. In that particular mission the only FARP I could see (either visually, on the kneeboard, briefing pages, or on the F10 map) is the one I took off from. I need to give that particular mission another go anyway as I didn't land properly when I did land at the end, I ripped a skid off the right side.
  4. Hello Probably a little of a basic question but it applies to all DCS modules (inc. BS1) really... I've been doing the Stray Eagle mission of the UH-1H module and the mission brief states you're supposed to land at FARP Dallas at the end of the mission. But I don't know how to tell on the map (F10), or anywhere else, where FARP Dallas is and from what I can work out from the list given after I've quit the mission I started at FARP Paris. So, how do I know exactly where to land if I'm told to land at a specific place - is there something on the map (F10) or something else (besides the compass which only gives you the general direction a beacon is in) that will tell me? Secondly how do I know when I've actually succeeded at a mission - it's not like there's a "mission successful" message displayed anywhere?
  5. I'm using what ever the build is that comes with the current download (1.2.6 as far as I know). I'm only using the autopilot because it's taking me a while to adjust to learning how to fly the UH-1H and I'm not all that good. I was fairly level when it happened though, which is why it seemed very very odd behaviour. Next time it happens I'll save the track, forgot to when it happened and I've attempted that mission again (and lost the main rotor again, that time because I got to close to the mountain side whilst trying without success to reach the very top (the helo just didn't seem to want to climb that last little bit) and I've tried the Stray Eagle mission, got shot at by AAA and eventually the tail rotor seized on me... Not really having much luck, but I've managed to just about work out the "pre-trim" I need to put on for take off. I'm not much better at Black Shark 1, it's mostly the "autopilot" in that which helps I think.
  6. Hello Just started flying the UH-1H, and dear god is it difficult compared to the Ka-50 with the "autopilot" on (does the Ka-50 in real life really have that good an "autopilot" system?). Anyway, I've been trying to do the mountain rescue mission and every now and then I switch on the autopilot for level flight to save me having to do all the work and so that I can see what he's doing on the control input indicator and trim my controls to roughly the point he's got his at. Every so often I take control (basically when I think it's safe for me to do so) but then when I put the autopilot back on... ...he thinks he's a stunt pilot and tries to do a loop the loop - which then causes the main rotor to break off!! Has anyone else come across?
  7. Thanks. Looks exactly like what I was looking for. I'll give that a go and see if it works for me with the UH-1H. Only for kneeboard though, am I right in thinking that to export the compass I'd need something else, like Helios or something? EDIT - yep the kneeboard export works. Just need to play around with the size/position to suit my needs. I came across this, but can't get it to work for the compass (I can't find the file for the compass and if I have it doesn't have the indicator_type = indicator_types.COMMON string in it) - http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=70716
  8. Hello Is it possible to put the kneeboard map on a 2nd monitor in the same way that the KA-50's ABRIS and Shkval and the A-10C MFCD's can be displayed on a 2nd monitor? Compass on my 2nd monitor would also be helpful. Is so, please could someone tell me how? Thanks in advance.
  9. I saw most of the modules on sale on Steam yesterday for 66% at £10.19. Didn't have the money though. Came to buy them today, not realising they were on a flash sale, as I have some money in my bank account today and found they're now just on sale at £14.99. So, I went to ED's e-shop and bought the UH-1H in dollars for £12ish - roughly £2.50-£3 cheaper than on Steam. I plan on buying BS2 also before the sale ends if I can cobble together the cash (I have BS1 so I'm not in a rush to get BS2).
  10. Epic fail by me!! I uninstalled and reinstalled DCS World, therefore losing all the graphics tweaks I had done to get a decent framerate and now I've remembered I had this problem before... Turns out DCS (Black Shark 1 and World) does not like having my XBCD Xbox 360 pad enabled and/or my Saitek X45 disabled (I play racing games with my gamepad and my Saitek X45 comes up as device 1 so my gamepad isn't device 1 live it should be) in device manager!!! I had to go and disable the gamepad to get DCS World (and Black Shark 1) to work. Apologies for posting, I should have realised what was wrong in the first place, certainly would have saved me time, especially as I now have to re-tweak DCS World to get back my decent framerate and reset all my controls on my Saitek X45 (because I also removed my C:\users>[username]>saved games>DCS folder in case it was a problem with the files in there)!! Doh!!!
  11. Hello Just purchased the UH-1H module and went to play it. However upon loading a mission DCS World "stops working" just after the small splash screen appears on my desktop. I've tried it without UH-1H installed via the module manager and it still happens. DCS World on it's own (no additional modules) was working fine the other day?! This is what I'm getting in my me.log without UH-1H installed in the module manager - === Log opened UTC 2013-12-21 06:38:04 00000.000 INFO VFS: Using 'Saved Games': "C:\Users\Raven Morpheus\Saved Games" 00000.001 INFO LAUNCHER: Launch command: D:\DCS World\bin\dcs.exe --trackfile "C:\Users\RAVENM~1\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS\LastMissionTrack.trk" "C:\Users\RAVENM~1\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS\tempMission.miz" 00004.695 UNKNOWN main: locale: en EN 00004.736 UNKNOWN main: me_db_api creation started 00004.983 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: Scripts/Database//CoreModules/WWII Units/entry.lua 00004.984 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: Scripts/Database//CoreModules/WWII Units/FW-190D9.lua 00004.984 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: Scripts/Database//CoreModules/WWII Units/Views.lua 00004.985 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: ./mods/aircrafts/Su-25T/entry.lua 00004.985 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: ./mods/aircrafts/Uh-1H/entry.lua 00004.986 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: ./mods/aircrafts/Uh-1H/Views.lua 00004.986 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: ./DemoMods/tech/CombinedArms/entry.lua 00004.986 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: ./DemoMods/aircrafts/A-10A/entry.lua 00004.987 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: ./DemoMods/aircrafts/A-10C/entry.lua 00004.987 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: ./DemoMods/aircrafts/Flaming Cliffs/entry.lua 00004.987 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: ./DemoMods/aircrafts/Ka-50/entry.lua 00004.987 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: ./DemoMods/aircrafts/Mi-8MTV2/entry.lua 00004.987 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: ./DemoMods/aircrafts/P-51D/entry.lua 00004.987 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: ./DemoMods/aircrafts/Su-25A/entry.lua 00004.987 UNKNOWN main: MOD loading: ./DemoMods/aircrafts/Uh-1H/entry.lua 00004.987 UNKNOWN main: PLUGINS START------------------------------------------------- 00004.987 UNKNOWN main: plugin: World War II AI Units by Eagle Dynamics applied 00004.988 UNKNOWN main: plugin: Su-25T by Eagle Dynamics applied 00004.988 UNKNOWN main: plugin: UH-1H Huey by Belsimtek skipped, not authorized 00004.988 UNKNOWN main: plugin: Combined Arms by Eagle Dynamics applied 00004.988 UNKNOWN main: plugin: Flaming Cliffs by Eagle Dynamics applied 00004.988 UNKNOWN main: plugin: A-10A by Eagle Dynamics applied 00004.988 UNKNOWN main: plugin: A-10C Warthog by Eagle Dynamics applied 00004.988 UNKNOWN main: plugin: Ka-50 Black Shark by Eagle Dynamics applied 00004.988 UNKNOWN main: plugin: Mi-8MTV2 Hip by Belsimtek applied 00004.988 UNKNOWN main: plugin: P-51D Mustang by Eagle Dynamics applied 00004.988 UNKNOWN main: plugin: Su-25A by Eagle Dynamics applied 00004.988 UNKNOWN main: PLUGINS DONE-------------------------------------------------- 00004.993 UNKNOWN main: ./MissionEditor/data/scripts/unitsclasses.lua loaded 00004.997 UNKNOWN main: ./MissionEditor/data/NewMap/classifier.lua loaded 00005.084 UNKNOWN main: me_db_api creation complete 00005.109 UNKNOWN main: options data successfully loaded 00005.109 UNKNOWN main: UH-1H: options data successfully loaded 00005.130 INFO EDCORE: createSerialQueue IOQueue 00005.131 ERROR VFS: add_location {"My Missions", "C:\Users\Raven Morpheus\Saved Games\DCS\Missions\"}: path already added as "My Missions" 00009.556 ERROR DXGUI_EDGE_RENDER: Cannot load texture '' 00009.672 INFO SOUND: loaded 596 sdefs from ".\sounds\sdef" 00009.681 INFO SOUND: XAudio2: Using device ID:'{0.0.0.00000000}.{46ea5f54-9550-47dc-8189-3896474f4510}' Name:'ATI HDMI Output (2- ATI High Definition Audio Device)', channels: 2 00009.681 INFO SOUND: XAudio2: channel layout: Headphones/Stereo 00009.704 INFO SOUND: Using SSE FTZ/DAZ mode. 00010.105 UNKNOWN main: Cannot load skin[windowHeaderSkin] from file [nil] 00010.151 UNKNOWN main: error loading news nil 00015.002 UNKNOWN main: Mission C:\Users\RAVENM~1\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS\tempMission.miz loaded 00017.401 UNKNOWN main: checking introduction C:\Users\RAVENM~1\AppData\Local\Temp\DCS\tempMission.miz 00017.405 UNKNOWN main: introduction found 00020.386 UNKNOWN main: turning log false 00020.394 INFO SOUND: detaching sdef path ".\sounds\sdef\" === Log closed. I'm running it on Win 7 64 bit, and I've tried altering my resolution and screen setup (because I thought it might be because I was running in 2820x1080 on 2 screens) back to 1920x1080 on 1 screen. Please could someone give me some help on this? Thanks. EDIT - it appears to be something on my system rather than the game, because I just tried it in a clean Windows 7 64bit install that I keep on my system and dual boot (specifically for when I get problems like this) and DCS World ran fine, even without being properly installed in that operating system. DCS Black Shark 1 also seems to be giving me a similar problem (but with a visual C++ runtime error when I use DCSMax to launch a mission and the front end won't even load!!). Thing is I don't know what's changed on my system between December 16th and today!!! :( I installed some older games (Janes Longbow 2) which required a glide wrapper, which I've since unistalled, and I installed Enemy Engaged Apache vs Havoc and Commanche vs Hokum and the community made 1.15 patch!! I also installed a microsoft .net framework 4 package (can't recall why, it was something to do with one of the games I installed), but I've uninstalled that today. I've also had no windows updates installed since last playing DCS World. And I cannot do a system restore back to the 16th because I don't appear to have a restore point for then!
  12. Non-lethal crowd control. :evil::devil:
  13. Hmm. OK I stand corrected then. I was not aware the Aussies had a few of them during 'Nam and later. To my knowledge that configuration was abandoned during tests by the US and the vast majority of UH-1D's and later did not use it. Still, I hope there is a configuration option to allow for the proper M21 system as in the pic I posted, or at least the ability to remove the forward mount when only arming with the M60's. Or hopefully someone will mod the correct system in.
  14. Hello Just been eyeing up the UH-1H because I'm torn between buying that or Black Shark 2, and I note that the M23 and M21 weapon systems are modelled wrong compared to what I've always seen of UH-1's. UH-1H's were mostly used as slicks (transports) in 'Nam and I don't think I've ever seen a UH-1H used as a gunship, not in 'Nam or since then. The gunship role during the 'Nam conflict until the AH-1 came along was performed by the UH-1B and UH-1C, not UH-1H's. Uh-1H's (and their earlier counterpart the UH-1D) were armed with an M60 on either side (sometimes on a sling, sometimes on the M23 mount) but that was about it. And to my knowledge that remains the case to this day. In the time I've been reading about Hueys for research to build scale models of them I've not come across a single Huey with 2 weapon mounts on the same helicopter, the M134 miniguns on a forward mount and the rockets on a mount behind them - they are always on the same mount. I know that there were plans to use Hueys with 2 mounts on each side, and the fuselages even have the holes/mounting points in them for this, but to my knowledge it never happened - the idea was abandoned. In all the photos of real UH-1's I've seen there are never 2 mounts on each side as there are on the UH-1H in the DCS module! Please see this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._helicopter_armament_subsystems This is the M21 system - Apologies if I'm wrong (I'd be very surprised if there was ever a UH-1 with 2 weapon mounts on each side but I'd be happy to admit I'm wrong if anyone can provide a genuine picture of one), and I know the UH-1H is still in beta (as far as I understand it), but I really hope ED correct this.
  15. Apache Longbow! Apache Longbow! Apache Longbow! Apache Longbow! Apart from the rather ancient games Apache Longbow 2, Apache AH-64 Air Assault, Enemy Engaged Apache vs Havoc (and Commanche vs Hokum with community mods/support) and Janes Apache Longbow 2 (if you can get it working) there is no decent game that could be called a "simulation" with an Apache AH-64 (I don't count FSX because it's not a combat-sim). I'd settle for a Hind or AH-1 Cobra (Vietnam era would be good, so not a Whiskey or Zulu, probably best as an Foxtrot or Golf) though. I'd also settle for a Jolly Green (Sikorsky S-61 (known in the USAF as a HH-3E)) or Super Jolly Green (M/HH-53 (Sea Stallion/Pavelow (and some other designations, including CH-53))) with a dynamic CSAR career/campaign set in 'Nam.
  16. Ah I see, so I'll only see the edited/new waypoint as the carat on my hud, not as a blue line on the ABRIS map.
  17. Thanks guys, I thought it had something to do with the PVI-800 (the thing I use to show me the direction of waypoints on the hud but can never recall the name of). I'll check out those vids, I came across them the other day but haven't really been looking, the ones I watched were telling me things I already knew so I gave up watching them. Just out of interest - I'm guessing from just reading Jona33's post that by editing a waypoint I won't lose the existing waypoints, I'll just be changing where the one I select goes to. So at the time I got that message telling me to go to the coordinates I was heading for waypoint 2, so if I selected waypoint 2 to edit I'd just be changing it's location and the waypoints after that in the route would still be there. Is that correct?
  18. Thanks for that. Really odd though. I tried your version of the mission (the Long Day.miz, not Long Day1.miz) and I could take off perfectly fine. Then I went back and tried my copy of the same mission... ...and took off perfectly fine, three times in a row! Only thing I did was drop in your mission file (with a slightly different file name), I didn't make any settings changes or do anything differently at all and I also tried it without your mission file and that mission now works flawlessly wrt take off (haven't quite worked out what I'm doing yet to be able to get much further than taking off and flying around a bit). Now I really am confused.:huh: Perhaps as Karambiatos said, I was pulling too hard on the stick, but then I was taking off the same way in other missions. Anyway thanks for the help guys, the issue seems to have sorted itself out.
  19. I can, but not by much (I think 4ghz is the limit of an ATI Phenom II X4 955 BE) and I'd rather not. I tried overclocking it to 3.6ghz (from 3.2ghz) when I first had it and fried the motherboard. Luckily the PC was still in warranty and I got it repaired FOC. If I had another PC to play games on I'd have a go at overclocking again, but my PC is now well outside it's warranty and I just don't have the cash to spend on replacing parts if I mess up the overclocking (I suspect I need to replace parts anyway as I've got intermittent issues with it).
  20. Hello I'm sure this is a fairly noob question but I decided to have a go at the Night Patrol single mission. I was happily flying along, slightly off to the left of the line indicating the route to the 2nd waypoint when I was told via subtitles that there was a group of friendly vehicles on a road low right. Now, I'm doing 230kph so I had no chance to take a look, even if I could see them considering the poor visibility. Then a few seconds later I get another message via subtitles to navigate to Target Point coordinates 44, 27, 22 North, 39, 23, 14 East. So, noob question - how do I do that? Basically need a tutorial to look at/read, I'm sure it's probably got something to do with the panel where you select waypoints but that's about as much as I can guess... Thanks in advance.
  21. Nope. Checked that. He takes off just fine each and every time. Most of the time he overtakes me before I've even got up to speed. Must be. Because 9/10 times I get an engine blow up and the other 1 time it's a hydraulics failure. I think the time I did get airborne with no problems was a fluke. Could someone who can take off fine in the Long Day mission perhaps attach the file to a post so that I may download it and check it - to rule out it being a problem with the file I've got being corrupted?
  22. Thanks I'll take a look at those. I don't see what I could have missed though, the mission starts with myself and my wingman on the runway (I'm on the left side of the runway, he's a little behind and to my right), and the engines are already spooled up and I'm ready to take off it seems, aside from flaps being on landing from what I can tell.
  23. Hmm, yeah, but I've come over to the other side (right hand side) of the runway on at least one run, and not made it. I'll see if I can go down the exact middle or try for the right hand side again, although there is a guy behind me that might crash into me... If that doesn't work I'll write that mission off for now, I'm really only using DCS World to evaluate the likely framerate I'll get with Black Shark 2. I'm more of a helicopters guy at the moment, and if I do fly fixed wing aircraft I'm more suited to the slower WW2 stuff. Thanks for the RShift+N tip, that'll come in handy. I worked out what the beeping noise I kept hearing is - whilst doing the cannon/rockets mission (the one with the ship) I noticed on the right hand side below the TV screen is an indicator that keeps lighting up. Apparently that's the RWS and tells you what direction threats are in. I suppose it'll come in handy but so far I've just found it a pita with it's constant bleeping... Thanks for the help though, shame that Long Day mission seems to be bugged for me but at least there are others and the mission editor and what looks like a small campaign. Should keep me mildly entertained until I get the money to upgrade BS1 to BS2.
  24. Definitely a problem with that Long Day mission, or at least my copy. I just tried a mission in the mission editor (I generated one at random), and I tried the Ramp Start single mission again also and managed to find the runway this time. :D In both the randomly generated mission editor mission and the Ramp Start single mission I took off just fine, and there was nothing making a noise or complaining at all once I was in the air. I tried opening the Long Day mission in the mission editor and saved it as a another file as suggested and that didn't work, when I tried it I had the hydraulics failure on one attempt and on a 2nd attempt both engines blew up on me!! So, I know it's that mission, just need to work out exactly what...
  25. Thanks. I just tried letting the plane get to 300 and trying to lift off but the same thing happened, only this time it was my right engine that blew. Very confusing. This is why I gave up a while back with fixed wing and went rotary, heli's are so much easier to get off the ground. :D I'll try the mission editor thing, although I'm using a completely fresh install of 1.2.6 that I put on this morning. WRT to the bird strike slider - it just says "birds" in the options so I had no idea that meant bird strikes. I'm guessing I should reduce that, is there any "recommended" value for that? I'm guessing 50% means that half the time I get hit by a bird strike? Random system failures is unchecked. I did just try another mission, to see if it's the mission that was causing the problem (the ramp takeoff mission) but I got lost on the taxiway, ended up thinking I was on the runway when I was still on the taxi way and crashed on take off, so that was another failure.
