  1. Thanks, I'll give that a go. At least now I should be able to see the marker flare and be able to aim for the right hill... Wish I knew a better way of identifying the edge of the level area of ground, it's difficult for me to tell where it is until I get real low, by which time it's too late...
  2. Hey all I was just playing my favourite mission for the Huey, Stray Eagle, and when Stray Eagle popped his smoke I found that I couldn't see it until I was right on top of the area, I used to be able to see it quite clearly when crossing the settlement that has all the AAA and the road running through the middle, so I'm guessing something was changed recently in an update as I've not changed my settings. Is there a way to increase the visual distance of markers like smoke without increasing overall draw distance? Also, the LZ you have to land on to pick up Stray Eagle seems a little small and rather poorly defined. Can anyone tell me how I can identify the edge of the level area from the air? Landing on that LZ is the biggest problem I have in that mission (despite the recently increased enemy activity and seeming lack of any air cover!!) because I can't tell where the flat terrain starts for the LZ. Thanks in advance.
  3. Hey all I'm playing through the A-10C tutorial missions again, to refresh myself on what I had learnt, but the markers for the buttons/switches aren't working. They're are floating instead of being locked onto the actual button/switch they're indicating. I'm running a multi-monitor setup, with 3 monitors, a 900x1080 portrait monitor, a 1920x1080 landscape monitor (my primary) and a 480x276 Android tablet. The tutorials work fine if I am using just 1 monitor (so I lose the use of the other 2) or if I set the game to use the 1 Screen config (but then it stretches the entire main view across all 3 of my monitors). Is there anyway I can fix this or am I doomed to using just 1 monitor for the tutorials? EDIT - I checked and this isn't just limited to the A-10, the Ka-50 tutorials also exhibit the same issue and I'm guessing all the others do also... TIA
  4. Ok thanks I'll have a look at those.
  5. Hey all I'd like to export the Up Front Controller thingy that the A-10C has and I'd like to make it so that I can export it to my Android tablet (I can currently do that with the MFCD's, Abris/Shkval, Kneeboard and Cargo Cam) so that I can use it as a touchscreen in order to operate the buttons on the UFC. Can anyone here tell me if that's possible and how to do it? I use iDisplay (to extend my desktop to the Android tablet) and I've tried Hawgtouch but it doesn't seem to work - I can only use the UFC panel with my mouse, not as a touch screen. TIA
  6. OK. I haven't had any issues engaging it before at or below 40kmh. So, what else could have caused the helo to want to constantly turn right?
  7. Hey all I was playing the "how to blow stuff up" mission that someone created (sorry I forget his name). I've played it dozens of times, and I played it once today before this problem occurred. Everything was fine until I came to hover over the ridge to shoot at the MBT Leopards in the mission, and engaged auto-hover. As soon as I engaged auto-hover, at about 40kmh, the helicopter kept wanting to turn to the right. I tried setting the trim again so the direction would update on the auto-pilot but that didn't help. I ended up drifting forwards whilst struggling to keep the heli pointing at the targets and consequently got shot down! :( Does anyone here have any insight as to why the heli would behave like that all of a sudden after being fine on the flight to the target area? TIA
  8. Thanks. What do you mean by choosing cargo? Do you mean once I am hooked up to some cargo the camera activates once airborne? Do you know of a test mission with cargo operations I can use to test out the cargo cam so that I can see if it's working in my install and if I can get it exported to my 2nd or 3rd monitor? EDIT - nevermind. I found out that if you activate it, as soon as you take off, whether you have cargo or not, and you're above a certain height, it comes on automatically.
  9. Hey all Can you only activate the Cargo Cam on the Huey in specific situations? In the controls it states that the keys to activate it are LCTRL+LSHIFT+C, but when I press than in a mission I made (just a Huey sitting on a runway) the cargo cam doesn't display, it doesn't work in any of the 3 single missions provided in the game either (does it work in the campaign?). Also, does anyone know if it's possible to export the cargo cam to a monitor other than the primary? TIA
  10. I am not sure when, but iDisplay has been updated to run on Android 5.1, and that means... ...that I've finally been able to setup a triple monitor configuration in DCS v1.5 (don't know about 2.0, haven't tried it yet) for the Ka-50 Blackshark using my Tesco Hudl2 Android tablet as a third monitor. I'll be trying it with the A-10 but I don't really know if I can export the UFD or something else useful (?) to the 3rd "monitor" and have the MFCD's where I do currently, on my 2nd monitor. Anyone with an Android tablet running v5.1 wanting to use it as a monitor should get iDisplay - I have used it via Wi-Fi and via USB and there's no perceivable lag that I could tell using the Shkval (an actual mission will tell if that's right or not) even with iDisplay running the tablet in it's maximum resolution of 1920x1104! And there didn't appear to be any hit to my framerate (my PC is an i5 @ 4.2ghz with an nVidia GTX960 2GB). Be nice if it worked as a touchscreen, but afaik it's just an extended desktop like a normal monitor, but I'm well happy now - I've been wanting to get this working for ages but iDisplay not being compatible with Android 5.1 has been the stumbling block! Still need to find a way to turn off the displays in the in-game cockpit though, the old mod for doing that (by PeterP) doesn't appear to work in v1.5... A photo I just took to show my setup (1440x900 secondary monitor in portrait on the left, main 1920x1080 monitor on the right, and my Tesco Hudl2 below. The overall resolution is 4740x1440 with the main monitor in the middle aligned at the bottom of the secondary monitor which is on the left in portrait, and the tablet "monitor" on the right) -
  11. Yeah, I was keen to go wireless from day 0 of using head tracking, but I've found it's not quite as good as a wired connection (I've used both wired and wireless) - because the LEDs dim as the batteries drain. I often don't have a spare set of batteries fully charged either. At least with a USB powered clip I can just plug it in and go and never have any tracking issues due to dim LEDs. Although the ideal solution would be a dual power source clip, battery and USB for those times I just get fed up with a cable. It's always the case that when I go to use my LED array the batteries are low... Thanks. I wasn't aware the freetrack site was still going, considering the software (afaik) is no longer in development. Yes I considered that. I think I could put a LED driver between the JST plug and the USB cable, that will negate the need for changing resistors as it will output only the required power. But if at all possible I'd like to avoid rebuilding the internals (i.e. the resistors and LEDs), as I've already rebuilt it twice due to wires coming loose - I'd rather not have to completely rebuild it again (or build a new one). Yep, I considered that also, I'd use one of those USB power blocks you plug into a wall socket. Wouldn't dream of putting something like this into my USB ports on my PC. I have considered batteries like 18650 but as you say there is a weight issue - I have the entire unit velcro'd to my headset (Creative Soundblaster Tactic3d Rage wireless) as it was the only way to attach it without doing it permanently, thus the reason I chose AAA batteries, I originally considered AA batteries but found them to be a little too heavy. And I've tried attaching strong neodymium magnets, but they don't stay attached to the plastics too long... Have considered LiPos, I have some 3.7v ones for my RC micro helicopters I could use (they're only 240mah though), but again high Mah LiPos tend to be rather big and heavy, not to mention the fact they can be a lot more volatile than normal batteries.
  12. Hey all I've got a homemade IR LED array that is powered by 2 AAA batteries (3V) with the LEDs in a parallel circuit but I'd like to convert it to USB power as I'm kind of fed up with the batteries running low on me and causing tracking problems. The plan is to chop the battery holder off (it's one of those black cases with a switch on the outside), attach a JST connector and use a USB lead with a JST connector (and maybe put one on the battery holder so I can still go wire free if I wish). Not having much knowledge of electrical circuits, I don't know if it's possible to do this. Would anyone here be able to give me some advice on this? TIA
  13. Nevermind, I have resolved this so that it works reasonably now. It behaves a bit odd when loading but when in the menus and in-game the main view is now on my main monitor whilst I have the MFCD's and ABRIS/Shkval on my secondary monitor. Just need to turn the displays off in the cockpit and tweak the config file so that I can have 1 config file with all exports like I had before (currently running 2, 1 for the A-10 and 1 for the Blackshark, and changing when I want to fly either), and I still haven't seen if I can move the kneeboard over to my 2nd monitor...
  14. Thanks but that's part of the problem I'm having - I don't know exactly what I'm looking at or for so I don't know what to get. A website with tons of products isn't all that helpful. I kind of need "get this for that, get that for this, get x y or z to do this" type of advice. :)
  15. Hey all I've given up on being able to use my Android tablet to export any of the panels/dials etc. as it just doesn't work properly for me. So, I'd like to put together some Huey panels, not a full blown cockpit, just a collection of the switches, rotaries etc. that I seem to use the most (mostly for startup). What I plan on doing is getting project boxes and using a Leo Bodnar BU0836 board. However I don't know where to get, or what type of, switches/knobs/buttons etc. or if I need something like Joy2Key so that DCS can work with the rotaries and switches, if so I'll abandon the idea as that complicates matters too much for me - I'd like the panels to be plug and play so that they work with DCS without any other software running. What I'd be looking at is the following controls - From the overhead panel - Rotaries for controls like the interior lights, AC Power and VM (these have multiple positions, so I'm guessing they should be rotary switches, not pots like I could use on the rotaries for the cockpit lights?) The toggle switches for the radar altimeter, the anti-collision lights, the inverter, main generator (with a cover) and battery From the centre console - Toggle switch for the fuel pump, force trim, hydraulics, master caution reset, low rpm warning. I'd like also to make functional ADF/VHF Nav and Comm/UHF/FM radio panels and maybe a weapons panel if possible but I think they might be more complicated. Can anyone point me in the right direction with regards to what I need for this (besides a Leo Bodnar, or equivalent, board and a project box or two)? Thanks in advance.
  16. Yes I thought of that, I might still try that though if I can find a spare axis with reasonable control (my X52 Pro's dials don't appear to be very accurate). I just went back and adjusted a couple of things though - mainly the angle of my LED array on my head (it seems the lower LED may have been pointing too low) and also changed batteries and zooming in whilst panning around does appear to work better than it did before. The view is still zoomed in too far by default though, the only way I can zoom it out is by moving my head backwards - that seems to be directly linked to setting the zoom to an axis, because I can't adjust it by the keyboard when I do!! If I could sort that issue (i.e. change the default FOV when using head tracking) out I think it might be OK! EDIT - I solved the default zoom problem. There is a setting on the curves settings in Opentrack where you can change the center pose of each axis (on the options tab of the curves settings). I set the TZ axis to 25cm and that has solved the zoomed in view by default (at least in the Huey it looks right, don't know about the other modules). Have yet to test how that affects zooming in on a panel though, hopefully it'll be usable now...
  17. Hey all Just wondering, as it's kind of annoying, but can you properly zoom in on control panels in a cockpit using the head tracking in-game (I use OpenTrack, most I guess use TrackIR), By that I mean turn the in-game head to look at a console in the cockpit (for arguments sake lets say the center console or overhead console in the Huey) and then zoom the view in so you can see the panel properly? Whenever I try that using OpenTrack the zoom axis just makes the view slide forward in the cockpit, not actually zoom into the panel, which isn't helpful if the panel is above or below the centre line of the view. I can achieve a view of some panels if I contort my head but it's awkward and isn't worth trying as I can't hold the position - it's easier to use snap views! I tried setting the OpenTrack Z axis to the zoom axis command in-game but that also didn't work properly, when I tried it - the yaw and pitch axis interfere with the zoom and by default it is zoomed in too far and won't change the default zoom... Any advice/ideas on this would be welcome. Thanks in advance.
  18. Hey all I want to go back to flying the Ka-50, and attempt to learn to fly again the A-10C (learning the weapons systems so I can remember what I'm doing with only a minimal refresher course (like I can with the Ka-50 and Huey)) , however one thing is putting me off doing it - exporting the ABRIS/Shkval, in the case of the Ka-50 and the MFCDs/UFC/CDU etc. on the A-10. It would also be nice to export the kneeboard. I have an Android tablet (a Tesco Hudl2) running Android 5 lollipop. I also have a 2nd monitor that I can use. For DCS v1 I had a .lua all setup so that I could use 2 monitors in the below configuration, however upon getting into v1.5 I found that no longer works. I tried editing the .lua files for screen config supplied with DCS 1.5 but that also did not work. This is the screen configuration I have - I could put the Android tablet on there as well but I cannot find an app that reliably works - iDisplay was the best, and did work, until I upgraded from Android Kitkat to Android Lollipop - the developer seems to have no intention of updating the app and there is no way I can go back to Android Kitkat on my tablet. Other apps just have too much lag or do not work properly even on the desktop. I was also using Hawgtouch to give me mouse clickable buttons/switches and surrounds for each display on the secondary monitor, and presumably once I can get the displays exported from the game to my secondary monitor I can go back to using Hawgtouch? So, please can anyone help me achieve having the displays on my secondary monitor and/or my Android tablet? Thanks in advance.
  19. OK thanks, so they're planning on porting the flight qualification campaigns. How about the tutorials already in-game? Or are there any user made ones I can try? (drawing a blank with searches btw)
  20. Hey all I'd like to have a go at getting back to learning how to fly the A-10, I can get it off the ground and land, it's more the weapons systems and startup procedures I need to learn. Are there any tutorial missions based in the NTTR map for the A-10? I think it would be more appropriate for an A-10 pilot to be training there. TIA
  21. Ah I see. I might give multiplayer a go then.
  22. Hmm ok. It's not really multiplayer though. At least not in the way I'm thinking about it - because presumably the troops you drop off/pick up are AI. So you might as well be playing a single player mission. Or am I not understanding it right?
  23. Hey all Just considering dipping into multi player and a thought struck me - this isn't Arma. In Arma multiplayer, as I understand it, you can fly a chopper and be a taxi driver for other players, however there aren't any ground troop players in DCS, are there? So what use is an unarmed Huey player in multi player?
  24. Ah OK thanks, wasn't sure.
  25. Thanks for this mission. I have a slight issue with it so far. I've only loaded i up to see if it loads OK, haven't flown anywhere yet, but I have no waypoints marked on the kneeboard map. Just a waypoint which says something like "new static object". Is that how it's supposed to be?
