  1. Thanks. That may well do the trick. I will try it and let you know. Thanks for your help :)
  2. Thank you for your reply f-18hornet, I have now tried the disc on two other pcs. One was not able to see the disc, the others allowed me to run the disc but after the installer starting the CD froze. I think I can safely say it is a problem with the CD unless you have any other suggestion Thanks for your help :)
  3. Hi there, I hope this is the correct place to post this; please redirect me if not. I bought Lock on Gold a couple of years ago and installed it, though the second CD took an age to install. I had to uninstall it and reinstall but now I can only load the first CD and not the second CD, Flaming Cliffs. It is no longer recognised by my DVD player. Is there any way I can get a replacement Flaming Cliffs CD or will I have to buy another copy?
  4. Hi everyone, I am guessing, rightly or wrongly that skins are going to operate for BS in the same way as they did for Lock On and that with a graphics program like Photoshop or GIMP, we will be able to mod the skins (open to correction on this one). However, I was watching a wildlife program a couple of months ago where a camera was set up in a moving box with mirrors on the outside. In this way it was fairly invisible in jungle terrain unless it moved, due to the reflections. So I was musing if this could in any way be done in BS with a mirror-like skin (okay we are going into fantasy mode here but indulge me) The concept and the problems pose advantages - being invisible from enemies and disadvantages - being invisible from friendlies and bumping into each other. Anyway just a thought as I wait to go home :music_whistling:
  5. Personally, I think each and every new Windows Operating System needs at least a year to bed down and have its problems sorted out before considering using it. Interestingly enough, last night I was reading a magazine which detailed how you could set your graphics levels higher in XP than was supposed to be allowed. The line was that to get such graphics settings in the menus you needed Vista. Wish I could remember which game and which magazine that was now. This reminded me of a game demo which "required" XP when it came out but with a quick workaround, performed immaculately on Windows 2000. In any event I am always cautious about upgrading unless there is a real need. My advice would be to listen to feedback from the developers and testers who have used XP and Vista about this issue before upgrading. Ps any Linux support?
  6. Thank you all very much for your suggestions - I look forward to some great reading :) Geier - I was actually in the local library and picked it up as it looked interesting. It is the story of an American Pilot, Leroy Gover, who joins the Second World War flying for the RAF before the US were officially involved. It reads a little like a diary and recounts his time flying different aircraft and his experiences during that time. I enjoyed the personal angle and the very matter of fact way the book was written. Here is a link to the book on the publishers site: http://www.potomacbooksinc.com/Books/BookDetail.aspx?productID=89762
  7. Hi Everyone, I am currently reading Philip D. Caine's "Spitfires, Thunderbolts and Warm Beer" and wondered if any of you could either recommend any helicopter orientated material or any other books you might think are essential non-fiction reading. All the best :)
  8. Hi everyone, Well I am going through the tutorial videos at the moment which were kindly converted by TekaTeka. I have also gone through a couple of vids by Ironhand which I found very useful, but there seems a lot of training tracks on his site which require older versions of Lock-On ( I have patched to the latest) or are not in video format. So my questions are as follows: How easy is it to convert a track to an avi and how exactly do you do it? If a track is made, for example, for Lock On 1.11 and you wanted to transfer that track to video, is it best to revert to 1.11 and then go through the process of transerring to video. ( Logically I would think so to avoid strange and unwanted behaviour, but would like to confirm.) I have an old pc which I use for testing etc. I could run Lock On there but it would run like a dog, so I need to know if it is possible to transfer tracks without having to run the tracks themselves at an acceptable level. Of course, I would seek permission from the authors first and make any videos I made freely available with their blessings. Any help or pointers would be gratefully received :)
  9. Thanks for all the tutorials you have done Ironhand. As someone who has recently started playing Lock-On, they have been a big big help and are really appreciated. Keep up the good work
  10. He shall be sorely missed by the conservation community - he helped save some valuable areas of Australia and was passionate about his work both on and off camera. Thoughts go to his family at a difficult time for them.
  11. Thanks for the quick reply SuperKungFu - I just finished installing so can see all the docs now :) Wanted to do a proper defrag first. And thank you for that site with the vids- very useful, I can have those running on my lappie next to me whilst I am playing the sim :)
  12. Hi everyone, I have just got a copy of Lock On Gold from a retail outlet called Game, here in the UK. They keep the original discs and manuals at the desks and insert them into the DVD packaging at the point of payment. When I got back home today, I found one quick startguide for Lock On and a keyboard guide for Microsoft Combat Flight Sim 3. So my question is just to clarify what manuals I should have in there. Secondly, I read a comment in an earlier post about the training tracks and not upgrading to the latest patch if you wanted to go through them. I cannot seem to find that post so could someone clear that one up for me. Thanks for all your help in advance :)
  13. Hi everyone, Well I am waiting with anticipation for the relase of the Ka-50. Now I have to admit that my flight sim days have been limited so I can see a steep learning curve coming over the horizon. Especially having seen some of those great vids. The last time I touched a helicopter flight sim was back in the days of the Commodore 64 and the sim/game AH-64 Apache! So I thought, maybe I could read up whilst on the tube in the mornings to work and get myself a little familiar with things so at least I can get a head start. Does anyone know of any good sources/books/info that I could have a look at? Any help would be grateful Thanks
