  1. I used to reduce throttle until it hit the stop, then I pressed the release button and reduced the throttle a tiny bit more. Now, I just reduce until it hits the stop. That solved my start-up issue.
  2. Have you tried logging in when you get the pop up. You may find that your message still gets posted after you log in (at least that's the way it's worked for me in the past).
  3. Thanks dburne. I'll keep the tip re. installation in mind.
  4. I finally got the beta to work. The StarForce support person suggested that I try installing the beta outside of the "Program Files" folder (e.g., E:\Eagle Dynamics\DCS World OpenBeta). This method worked and I did not need to run as an admin.
  5. Thanks sFalcon. I tried installing the Visual c++ redistributable 2013 and updating DCS to 1.5.47025 but I still get the dcs_protect.exe error.
  6. Good point plehmann; I'll do that in future. FYI, I'm working with the StarForce folks to try and debug the problem right now. No luck yet, but I'll let you know if we make any progress. Jim
  7. Update: Problem still exists with the latest beta update, 1.5.1.46722. I've tried uninstalling BitDefender AV and running the DCS beta but still get the dcs_protect message.
  8. I wonder if this problem relates in some way to the issue I'm having getting dcs_protect.exe to start (http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=148260)? I've tried uninstalling BitDefender and running DCS beta but still get the dcs_protect message. I haven't experienced the message in the OP though.
  9. Update: I got the latest update, 1.5.0.46175, but still get the same message and cannot start the DCS Beta.
  10. deepdiver8055, Like msalama, I find that a curve on all three of the Huey's axes helps with stability (I use curves of 10). The only time my flying gets a little messy is lifting off the ground. Sometimes, the skids will scrape a bit with rotation or the helicopter will drift a little. Do you find that the real one gives you some feedback on how much left pedal and collective to input to get a clean break with the ground? Cheers! Jim
  11. Thanks, but still no luck for me. I have COMODO too. What did you change the DCS.exe rule to? Mine is set to "Allowed Application". All my other DCS exe files are also set to "Allowed Application" (I added msc.exe and unit_tests.exe to the list just in case). Jim
  12. I appear to be the only one getting this problem so far, but my 1.2 DCS works just fine. Anyone else getting this problem and are unable to start the new beta at all? As I understand it, dcs_protect.exe is for StarForce DRM. I'm green with envy at all the great new screenshots and videos. Cheers!
  13. Update: I tried uninstalling and reinstalling from https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/downloads/world/beta/ but I still get the same error.
  14. When I start the dcs open beta, I get message "Unhandled exception in the Host Library (thread 6332)" and DCS does not start. The message detail says that DCS is unable to create process dcs_protect.exe. I have attached the actual message dialog. I tried starting with the launcher and with dcs.exe (including as admin). I tried several updater repairs but no luck. I have the Oct. 2 update, version 1.5.0.45208. System: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit 6.1.7601 SP1 CPU: Intel Core i7-3770K 3.50GHz GPU: ASUS GTX680-DC2T-2GD5 Driver: ASUS 9.18.13.4752 (2015-02-05) Mem: 8GB Thanks! 15. It was a memorable mission, loaded with helicopter challenges. Thanks again Chuck for a great organizing job. It was a shame that the mission crashed but I still had a great experience. I had a few "accordion moments" trying to hold formation in the back, but I still managed to link up with my flight when we separated a couple of times. I found it particularly difficult to judge closure rate in the dark. Perhaps if the leads announced speed and altitude now and then, that would help. Cheers!
  16. Try Teamspeak Notifier overlay. I'm not on Win10, but I've switched between TS Overlay and TS Notifier several times for various flight sims when one or the other quits working. Make sure to get it from the link I just sent rather than the TS Plugins page because the first link had a more recent version last time I checked. Cheers!
  17. 31 helicopters flying around in the dark! This is going to be FUN!
  18. UH-1 slick for me Chuck. Thanks!
  19. I'm looking forward to the next event Chuck.
  20. Don't worry Chuck, heee'lll be baaackkk!
  21. Agreed! It's a wonderful module, as is the Huey. I just picked up the Ka-50 in the sale. I haven't flown the 50 a lot yet, but I love what I see so far.
  22. Thanks for the great video Chuck. I have one suggestion for the next event. In the recent event, the formations tended to get strung out a bit at times, To help tighten the slick formations: - Have the leader maintain a gentle climb at 80 knots for a little while after departure to the LZ. This makes it easier for everyone to close up. Given how close some of the LZs are, maybe throw in a gentle orbit over the airfield before heading out. - Enroute and on final to the LZ, have the leader call the airspeed. Cheers!
  23. I had an excellent time flying with you guys today. It was a real thrill flying with that many choppers and that many serious pilots (having serious fun). Thanks a bunch to Chuck for a great organizing job and extra special thanks to the 229th 1st Cav for providing the server! I'm looking forward to more of the same sometime soon.
  24. I find this page handy for times. You can type GMT, Zulu, UTC, or any location in the search box.
