So this happened at work today...
thunderchicken02 replied to thunderchicken02's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
They were loitering around for a while before I took the video - they were here for an event honoring one of their fellow pilots. I dunno what they'd be doing near Ft. Carson as that's much further south. -

As seen by the timestamp of the video, they were pretty damn close for their TOT of 1130! -

X-55 Mouse Nipple Modification - PART ONE
thunderchicken02 replied to BrassEm's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I don't use the mouse switch on my x55 because it's so unreliable, but this is too ambitious for me though! Great work! -
Make sure your water and civilian traffic are set to low, adjust terrain and visibility to what suits you as the best compromise between image quality and performance.

90+ frames/sec - overkill?
thunderchicken02 replied to thunderchicken02's topic in DCS World 1.x (read only)
This was with vsync off, which caused screen tearing and single player. Solid 60 fps with vsync on is more realistic. -
I just moved from a laptop with that video card to a tower desktop I built myself with a beefier video card and the difference is night and day. I went from max 30 fps to 90+ without vsync and a solid 60 fps with vsync on. Laptops by design compromise performance for portability, and DCS prefers less cores with higher clock speeds.

Are there any resources for those that are looking to expand their flying skills? I've gotten the hang of cold starts, takeoff, navigation, basic weapons employment and landing. I could use help on radio use, roll in/out attacks, AAR, advanced CDU usage, etc. Are there squads willing to take noobs like myself under their wing(s)?

Thank you the for the information, DTWD. Very informative post. Since I only play single player (for now), my fps experience is probably very different from those of you playing MP. My rig specs do not match those of King_Hrothgar's - Intel I5 4690k (oc'd to 4.5 GHz), 8 GB ram, SSD, GTX 970) but still more than plenty for DCS. I might eat my words once I'm comfortable enough to delve into multiplayer, though! -
Droppin' JDAMs like they're stupid?

Yikes..some people need to lighten up.. If you can't understand someone is joking, even with smiley faces and exaggerated numbers, it might be time to take a step back. -

I noticed some tearing and had to turn on vsync. Is there a difference between the vsync in DCS options and nvidia settings? I was under the understanding that DCS supports additive vsync as well. -
Hello all, I did a search but didn't see an answer to my question. I just finished a PC build and fired up DCS A-10C for the first time and was happy to see that it was running between 85 and about 100 fps at max settings. However, since my monitor is at 60hz @ 1920x1080, is there a benefit to having over 60fps? I have vsync off and haven't noticed tearing. I don't want to push my hardware too hard if I don't have to but I'm not sure if capping fps makes sense.

New PC Build
thunderchicken02 replied to thunderchicken02's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I wasn't able to find a computer that has twice the hardware for half the price on Dell's outlet site. The only computers I saw were Alienware x51s that had lesser specs for the same price than the build I posted (I have a monitor added to mine). Am I missing something? -

Jcbak, can you point me in the direction of the Dell computer you're talking about? I'd prefer to get a fully assembled computer instead of assembling my own if possible! -

Thank you all for the replies! I'll look into the GTX 960 and possibly adding a SSD. I didn't consider a refurb but I'll check that out too. -
I wanted to get the community's opinion on a part listing for my first pc build. I'm not looking for a ultimate gaming rig, just something that has decent performance with good value. Skatezilla may be correct, I could've turned on the black background. I'm away from my computer but will post back later. -

Yes, they are located at the top left and right corners. Without Helios running, they show up in the approximate spots they're supposed to be. -

I'm using Lox SM V2.1 in Helios...not sure how to make them visible over it.
