[CLOSED]A-10A locks up as soon as it starts
tonyswash replied to Razgriz1's topic in A-10A for DCS World
There is a definite RWR crash bug with the A10A. I created a simple mission to test it, one A10A and a radar emitting SAM site that I could trigger inflight. The A10A flew around with no problem, I triggered the SAM site and the instant the RWR beeped the game froze, it froze so hard that I had to reboot the PC. -

Yeah it's the RWR in the A10a , it doesn't matter the source of the radar signal - the game freezes on the very first beep from the RWR. I tried it with the SU25T and there is no problem and I also tried it with an air threat to an A10 and that froze on the first beep. I always fly the A10A and it's impossible to fly any mission with any radar threats, which is pretty much any of them, so I am stuck until the bug is fixed. -

Definite A10A crash bug related to RWR As soon as I installed the 1.29 update I began to get game crashes flying the A10A. The game would freeze although the engine sound would continue and every time I could not get back to the desktop and had to restart the PC. In some missions it froze as soon as the mission started and in others it froze a few minutes in. I tried many things, repairing, uninstalling and reinstalling, turning off all modes, updating graphic drivers etc. I saw mention of a possible RWR bug so decided to test it. Bingo! I set up a test mission. One A10A flying towards a radar utilising Sam site, The SAM was set for late activation and I made it so I could activate it via a radio menu item. I started the mission and flew for a few minutes with no SAM and no RWR signal. No problem. I activated the SAM and the moment the RWR got a signal and beeped the game froze. Definite bug of some sort. Until it’s fixed the game is mostly unplayable. -
Can't get Maverick missiles to launch after lock
tonyswash replied to ossseth's topic in A-10A for DCS World
Hold the keys down for a couple of seconds, the missile does not launch immediately on key press. -
I noted the full moon dates listed in this thread but when I flew at various times during the night of a full moon I didn't see one. I wanted to schedule a night mission that would happen under the light of a full moon. Is the full moon visible in DCS World? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=124725

Thanks! Just what I needed to know.

I have a question about custom sound files. I want to use some custom radio transmissions I have created. I have them on my hard drive as individual sound files. When I set up the relevant triggers I point at these files as the sounds to play when triggered. My question is this: when I save my mission as a .miz file are these custom sounds baked into the mission file? What I mean by that is if someone downloads just the .miz file will the custom sounds be available and heard in the mission?

Thanks for the welcome guys - these forums seem a very friendly and supportive community. As you have suggested I have posted the two missions in the appropriate FC missions thread.

I got into flight sims back in the early 1990s, playing first Hellcats Over the Pacific and then the follow up Missions at Leyte Gulf, both from Parsoft on the Mac. I loved those flight sims and bought my first joystick to play them. Soon I graduated to F/A-18 Hornet which seemed a huge step up in complexity. In 1996 I flew A-10 Attack! followed by A-10 Cuba. Loved both games but was frustrated by the small number of missions, their scripted predictability and the lack of any add ons or follow ups. Then came the beast that was Falcon 4.0. I actually bought a Windows PC just to play that game and in between the system crashes and the often slideshow like frame rate I was utterly enthralled by the complexity of the simulation and by the massive dynamic campaigns. I stuck with Falcon 4 for several years but eventually abandoned it for the joys of multiplayer shooters (Call of Duty, Battlefield, etc) and my flight sim career seemed to be over. I also moved on to the Infiltration modding team on the Unreal Engine (I was Old Geezer a level designer) and that took a lot of my time. Recently I was looking for something other than a multiplayer shooter and tried the recent Rome II which turned out to be a huge disappointment (I had played the series from the beginning starting with Shogun 1) so I wondered about a trying a flight sim again. I knew it was a commitment, I needed a good joystick and any simulation worth it’s while would require a lot of study and practice. A month ago, having reviewed the flight sim titles available, I downloaded DCS World, bought a joystick and took the SU25T for a spin (literally at first - what a pig of a plane to fly). And now once again I am enthralled. The DCS series seems exactly what I have always wanted from a flight sim, great depth, great graphics, a graduated ladder of authenticity that you can climb at your own pace, endless possibilities for expansion and new experiences, maybe moving onto multiplayer eventually (when I get a lot better). I decided to invest in a proper control system as fiddling about with multiple key commands on a keyboard is an immersion killer so I bought a couple of Cherry point of sales programmable keypads and they make a nice virtual cockpit control panel to supplement my Thrustmaster Hotas X I have been flying most days for about a month now and having grown tired of wrestling with the SU25T handling I bought Flaming Cliffs 3 and settled on the A10A as my initial plane of choice - I do so love moving mud and blowing things up. All DCS seems to lack at the moment (other than some in depth training modules ) is an F16 module, add that and I would be in heaven. Two weeks ago I decided to dip into the Mission Editor and I have written two missions that I think are playable, the download link from my server is here: http://tonyswash.com/Missions.zip Both missions are for single player A10a pilots and both have elements of randomness and unpredictability that I hope will make them repayable. Feed back on the missions would be appreciated - just bear in mind these are my first efforts after only a few days of learning the editor. Can anybody point me to better place to post these missions? Anyway, it’s sure is good to be back in the skies again :)

Thanks for the info and help - very appreciated

Is the EAC on by default or do I have to turn it one at the start of the mission?
-
I have just bought Flaming Cliffs 3 and only play the A10A. I am setting up my control system and I noticed the commands for turning EAC off and on. What does this do? I tried toggling it whilst flying and could see no discernible difference. Also the trim controls seem to do nothing much.
