  1. The 656th is the 132nd Virtual Wing squadron that operates the AH-64D attack helicopter. The squadron draws inspiration from the British Army Air Corps and the 656th Squadron, which has frequent trainings with the Norwegian armed forces in the arctic. We are looking for two new members to fly with us. The nickname of the squadron is a tribute to the Apache and the role it played during the first Gulf war. The main air campaign of Operation Desert Shield started as Task Force Normandy, consisting of eight AH-64 and four MH-53 helicopters, flew low-level under radar coverage to strike Iraqi early warning sites close to the border of Saudi-Arabia. In this regard, the Apaches were the spearheads in the main air campaign of the war. The 132nd Virtual Wing was formed in July 2013 by a close group of Norwegians that were keen on creating an organization that represented what they believed a Virtual Wing should be about: realism and immersion. Since then, the Wing has grown significantly to have seven active squadrons of various airframes with an extensive training program for each. We also have members that regularly serve as JTACs or man agencies such as ATC or C2. We look for new members (18+) interested in playing DCS as the full-fledged combat simulator that it is. Our main emphasis is on simulation, realism and immersion, as we believe that the most fun in DCS can be achieved when all members do their best to simulate flying an aircraft in a combat environment, at least as far as can be achieved while sitting in front of a computer. We teach trainees how to fly in our multiplayer environment. With this in mind, our training program is set up as a combination of self-qualification and Instructor Pilot (IP) mandatory training flights. Unfortunately, we do not not the basics of how to fly the aircraft. We expect our applicants to be competent with the systems of the airframe and to be able to fly it safely in all modes of flight. Our training days are Wednesday and Sunday at 2000 CET (1900 UTC). We look for dedicated pilots that match our description above and has the time schedule to regularly attend our training days. That being said, we understand and appreciate that real life comes first and attending all events all the time is not possible. Our combat events are scheduled in place of training events on Sundays, on average every two weeks. One of our ongoing campaigns, Operation Active Resolve, has between 20 and 40 participants flying various airframes. The squadron was started in March 2022 shortly after the DCS: AH-64D was released. While we have a well established training program (TRP), we are continuously working on improving it. The next iteration should see improvements to the CPG training and cockpit coordination.
