AFAIK, there are no A-10a's or A+'s currently flying. All A-10 airframes in flying condition were converted to C's. This happened around 2006-7. The Sniper wasn't added to the A-10's inventory until around '09 according to the above posts, so no, the A's and A+'s would not have had the capability of carrying the Sniper pod. I know they started the A-10C conversions around 2006/2007, but I think they didn't finish converting all aircraft until mid 2011. Source: http://archive.li/PqheT Maybe because of this there were still some A-10A+s knocking about when the Sniper pod was introduced?
-
Can the A-10+ carry Sniper pods though? This guy says they're incompatible with the A-10/A-10+ and that only the A-10C can carry them: http://warthognews.blogspot.ca/2009/10/identifying-upgraded-10c.html?m=1
-
Are Sniper pods only compatible with A-10Cs or can the A-10As also carry them?
-
Try jiggling the Mav crosshair while trying to get a lock. I'm not sure why this is necessary, but it does work for me.
-
I don't know which is older or newer, but I have heard that though the Sniper has better range and resolution, the LANTIRN is preferred for CAS. That might explain why F-15Es and other multirole jets carry both.
-
So a software update would be the only thing necessary for Sniper pod capability? No hardware modifications/upgrades?
-
I know DCS A-10C will most likely never get the Sniper pod and I'm fine with that, so let me just get that out of the way. :) Would the version of A-10C modeled in DCS be able to mount a Sniper pod in real life without needing any further upgrades or modifications? Snipers are basically just LANTIRNs with better opticals, right?

Replacement wing sets "thicker" than the original wings?
Vampyr posted a topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I just read this article about the whole upgrade dilemma with the A-10 fleet: http://www.thedrive.com/the-war-zone/20106/the-air-force-may-have-managed-to-quietly-ground-roughly-a-third-of-the-a-10-fleet What exactly does the author mean by "new thick wings"? Wouldn't bolting on thicker wings change the aerodynamics of the entire aircraft? -
Why doesn't heat blur work for me?
Vampyr replied to Vampyr's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
I just tested it on the ramp and the heat blur was quite visible. Thanks for clearing that up guys. -
Why doesn't heat blur work for me?
Vampyr replied to Vampyr's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Can you show me a screenshot of heat blur on your A-10C? -
Is it weird that I don't see heat blur even when my engines are running max thrust? I'm on a GTX 1070 right now, but I remember seeing the same thing on the Radeon 6750 and GTX 1050 I used to have before this. I thought that in 2.5 the heat blur might be more visible, but I still don't see anything. So far I've only tried heat blur with the A-10C. Attached are two in game screenshots plus a screenshot of my current graphical settings.

I know that ED considers the A-10C module "completed", but what are the chances of them addressing all these issues in the future? Anyway, these tips are helpful, but I guess I'll start practicing strafing with the default settings. It seems I can still manage to get enough rounds on the target if I get just a little lower.
-
The TVV indicator gets in the way if I do that.
-
Is it broken for just the A-10C module or for all DCS modules? I literally spent $400 on a TM Warthog just to be able to use the GAU-8 more accurately, and now this silly reticle issue is the only thing getting in my way of being able to do that. This is depressing.
-
I did that and didn't notice any change; the reticle looks the same when I'm in GUNS mode, and the SPI marker still gets covered by the reticle. According to the manual, the GUN CROSS OCCULT setting is only used to hide/show the TVV indicator in CCIP mode. I don't think that's what I'm looking for.
-
Newbie question... how exactly do I change the GUN CROSS OCCULT setting in the IFFCC settings menu? I've never gone into the IFFCC settings before.
-
I can't seem to zoom in too much since I started using Track IR. My current graphics card isn't too good either, so it's very difficult looking for that one dark green pixel among the rest of the clutter. I will try that, thanks.
-
I always use the TGP to search for and designate targets before coming down to strafe them with my gun. The problem is that when I bring the reticle over the SPI, it'll "cover" or hide the SPI diamond and therefore make it difficult for me to fire accurately without getting close to the target. Is there a way for me to prevent the reticle from covering the SPI diamond?

TM Warthog throttle creaking sound
Vampyr replied to Vampyr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Yep, changing the tension didn't get rid of the sound. A few hours after posting this thread I started feeling it stick in the middle. I didn't want to wait for it to get worse, so I've already sent it back and asked for a replacement. -
TM Warthog throttle creaking sound
Vampyr replied to Vampyr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Am I the only one on this forum with this flight stick? :P I wasn't so sure about that weird creaking sound, so I went ahead and ordered a replacement just to be on the safe side. -
I've had my TM Warthog HOTAS for about a week now, and so far it's working great. There's just one thing I'm not so sure about: though the throttle slider is smooth, I can hear it creak for a second when it passes the middle. I don't mind it because it doesn't affect the throttle's performance or feel, but I still can't help but think whether this is normal. Does anyone else have the same issue?

Is the Saitek X56 really that bad?
Vampyr replied to Vampyr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
My TM Warthog finally arrived today, and the difference between this and my previous stick (T-Flight Hotas X) is mind blowing. It was insanely difficult to get my rounds on target with the A-10's gun before, but now it's actually fun. Also, unlike my previous stick, this thing literally feels like a weapon in my hand. -
Is the Saitek X56 really that bad?
Vampyr replied to Vampyr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Quick question... I just found this in the downloads section: https://www.digitalcombatsimulator.com/en/files/1292863/ The download includes something called "custom controls". What are they? And do I need them if I'm only interested in flying the A-10C? -
Is the Saitek X56 really that bad?
Vampyr replied to Vampyr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I just went ahead and bought a Thrustmaster Warthog. :) I just couldn't bring myself to spend nearly $400 on something that might break down within a year. Plus it'll be awesome to have a flight stick that's an exact replica of the one found in the aircraft I'm flying in DCS. -
I've seen and read several bad reviews of the X56 with a few of them actually referring to it as a piece of garbage. Is it really that bad? The most common complaints are concerning poor build quality (i.e. wobbly rotary knobs and clicking sounds when moving the throttle or flight stick) or the system failing after a few weeks of use. I want a decent flight stick for my A-10C, ideally something that's just one step down from a TM Warthog. Doesn't the X56 fall into that category? If not, I'd welcome more suggestions. This is the X56 I have my eye on right now: https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=9SIA7RD5AT1587&nm_mc=KNC-GoogleAdwordsCAMKPL-PC&cm_mmc=KNC-GoogleAdwordsCAMKPL-PC-_-pla-_-PC+Gaming+Accessories+%28Joystick+-+Game+Pad+-+etc.%29-_-9SIA7RD5AT1587&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI6r6l0IXZ2AIVT57ACh1-sQ4CEAYYAyABEgJfUfD_BwE
