I've heard that both the A-10 and OA-10 are the same aircraft, but I've also heard that the OA-10 had some extra sensors and/or different avionics to help with its role as FAC. Is that true? Also, does the OA-10 exist for both A and C variants, or just the A?

Does anyone have a list of A-10 serials that were redesignated as OA-10? I'm looking at this aircraft in particular: http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Air-Force/Fairchild-A-10C-Thunderbolt-II/2111387?qsp=eJxdjTEOwjAMRe/iGaQGJIaOvQAdWBit2GoqColsSxBVvTsmYur29fz8/woxv4w/dquFoQdllJjgAAUFnwr9CoTGY8qWJ8GSmNw6dSG48%2BD6zkJuAR5DFx1pFhuqg/3X3Yv/96sQy09hjW1p8uXggWVsGc4X5zRrWbB1seG8wLZ9AQDlOX8%3D In the photo above from 2011, it's an A-10C. However in this earlier photo it's an OA-10A: http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA-Air-Force/Fairchild-OA-10A-Thunderbolt-II/687420?qsp=eJwtjcEKwkAQQ/9lzgpSpWhv9Qf04A8Ms6EurO0yM4Kl9N/drd7ykpAsJNPo%2BPhjzqCODKzypB1lVn4ZdQsphmiu7HEae/E3p9I7N/tDe7qUok3q17lYgR29CLIj/P2bBmiNYLJtDvWjqRJ6/9GxLRii5cTbCpxjonX9Aqk2Mkc%3D Was the aircraft built as an OA-10 and then converted back to A-10 standard?

Makes sense. So I'm better off using bombs/missiles on tanks and saving the gun for lightly armored targets such as trucks and infantry?
-
I'm finding it very difficult to kill tanks with guns only. I either have to make several passes or come at them low enough that their MGs can fire at me. I did a search on this forum and found a couple of threads from 2014 talking about how the GAU-8 on the A-10C is underpowered. Is this still the case? I don't get the reasoning behind nerfing the only signature weapon of this plane.

Declassified: Warthog Pilots - Grunts in the Sky
Vampyr replied to StrongHarm's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I saw this in my news feed yesterday. Great documentary. Don't know if it's true or not, but apparently the USAF tried to suppress this for quite a while when they were trying to get the A-10 decommissioned. -
I don't see any small circles popping up.

You'll find them under C:\Users\{YourUsername}\Saved Games\DCS\Logs

Thanks for the tips. Looks like setting the HOF to 700 increases my accuracy significantly. I decimated a group of tanks moving in wedge formation by setting the lead tank as SPI and by adjusting the HOF.
-
Does the template have the same issue? Also wondering if the template could possibly be outdated.
-
That means I have to guess where they're going to be, and my accuracy would then depend on how good my guess is, right?

The way I'm currently dropping CBUs is by switching to CCRP and then locking onto the target with TGP. This works fine for stationary targets, however moving targets can be hit and miss because by the time the skeets start firing, the targets may have moved on. Is there a way I can compensate for the target's ground speed and have a release point that's ahead of their current position?
-
I've got 10,000 hours worth of stalls and crashes. I should be able to do this. :P

Is it just the one SA-15? I would just get him to launch all of his missiles and then go at him once he's out.

First successful Maverick launch. Did I do it right?

When I have MAV as SOI, how do I ground stabilize and zoom in/out? -
First successful Maverick launch. Did I do it right?
Vampyr replied to Vampyr's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
How many launches do you guys usually manage in one pass? I can only manage one launch because by the time I've gotten a lock and launched on a target, I'm too close to the next target to switch back to TGP and go through the entire process again. It seems that the only way around it is to bypass TGP after the first launch and slew the next Maverick manually until lock. -
Anyone? I'm also interested in knowing if this is doable.

I agree with all of you; I don't really care for aircraft upgrades and think that the current suite 3 model is pretty good as is (though it could use some refinements as you've all mentioned). I was just curious as to what direction Eagle was going with the A-10C module. I'm still fairly new to the A-10C and I'm loving it.
-
It's starting to look like the A-10 will stay in service for for many more years to come, and the aircraft will more than likely receive upgrades throughout the remainder of their service life. Will DCS update the A-10C module to model those upgrades? Just wondering what "version" of the A-10 they're going to stop at and refine.

Alright, so switching to MAV SOI and then pressing TMS forward short until lock is what I was missing. This time I managed to kill 2/3 targets in one pass. The 65D does seem to perform better than the 65H. I just thought that IR may not work as well during summer daytime due to ambient heat, but apparently that isn't the case. -
I just got the A-10C, and it's been quite the learning curve getting the hang of this thing coming from FC3. I finally managed to launch a Maverick after following the steps outlined in this thread, however I'm not sure if I'm doing it right. After designating an SPI and slaving the Maverick to it, I can't launch the Maverick right away because it doesn't seem to have locked on to its target. What I had to do was make the Maverick my SOI and slew it left/right until it locked itself, and only then was I able to launch. Did I do something wrong? I've attached a track hoping someone could take a look and give me some pointers. It's less than 5 minutes long. a10c_maverick.trk

Just for curiosity's sake, what block number is Flaming Cliff 3's F-15C modeled after? I don't think it's mentioned anywhere in the manual, though I might have missed it if I was looking in the wrong section...
-
Any space for F-15C pilots?
-
Tried resaving the mission but that didn't seem to work either. It just sits at the "loading..." screen and never progresses to the screen with the loading bar.
-
Okay, that worked. It also didn't ask me for my serial numbers, which I guess are probably associated with my ED account. Thank you! :) I've noticed that the custom missions I had created back in 2014 no longer load. There's no error message or anything, and it'll just sit at the splash screen (the one without a loading bar). Any workaround for this or will I have to recreate my custom missions?

I clicked that button and a little window popped up displaying a list of modules that I had previously purchased and were ready for me to install. Downloading now. Let's hope this works.
