  1. Thanks! One thing I still don't get is the WG84 in the CDU a line above the MGRS line. I think it's the overall grid square reference but how do I know when to change it / what to change it to if the waypoint I'm setting happens to be outside? I know this happens if the distance to the wp is waay off. I'm confused when I look at the map, I don't see WG84 anywhere. Sorry if this is a silly question..
  2. Hi, I'd like to practice using the CDU to add mission points in UTM since that's what JTAC normally gives you. If I put objects on the map in mission editor, is there a way to get the UTM cords or convert from lat long? My goal is to create a mission and try entering the cords for the units I place and try to find them via the CDU. I'll go back and read the manual, any help would be great. Thx! Steve
  3. I wound up doing my own Saitek X52 configs for both A-10C and F-15C, so I have a fairly good understanding of how to customize in DCS World. If you have any questions about the DCS interface, lemme know. Id actually like to figure out a way in F-15C so that cool light up Mode rotator toggle would put the jet into different weapons modes (but it probably cant..) I just love that weapon mode switch on the F-14stick portraid in Top Gun (I know its not realistic.. :-)
  4. I'm getting ito F-15C from A-10C also. I have found that the biggest help for systems is trying out HOTAS mappings. I used to think it would be cool to just read all the radar functions and pick HOTAS assignments all at once. But, the more I play in Free Flight, i just move the HOTAS ctrl buttons and think Gee it would be cool if it did this.. And then I go map it. Kinda like a bottom-up usability exercise. -SK
  5. Not sure if DCS wish list is the best place for this, but Wow!! I used to think I knew how to land w/ out flying off the runway- not any more! I've also got some neat ideas about automating the generation of more interesting instant action / fast missions. I could leverage existing mission editor templates, and try writing my own small function (in Java or Perl) to auto-gen code in the DCS scripting language to smartly generate more advanced 'personality' for the fast missions. I did software work in the dot com bubble burst w pearl scripting to read 'templates' and turn them into more executable code and such. I gotta learn the scripting language for DCS better.. 6. When you're giving your spouse the shopping list over the phone and you end with "Advise when ready for further talk-on".
  7. When your friend's kid who is playing MineCraft tells you he is building a mansion by the lake, and you tell him "Cool; tell JTAC to give me the 9-line and I'll come by and shaq it with a JDAM." ------------------------------------------ In the morning, when it takes you a minute to realize that you actually CAN drive to work WITHOUT wearing your TrackIR cap. ---------------------------------------- When this is like your 19th post to this topic..
  8. When you're at your urologist and you think you hear him conclude that your P-Bil is stuck in 5-mil.
  9. I've been flying the sim for a couple of months and finally got TrackIR today. It does greatly improve the whole experience, however after the 1st 20 minutes, I had 6-degrees of nausea.. ;-) I'll hopefully get used to it. I'm also going to try the hoggit Tues eve training flights I heard about.
  10. After reading this, I just ordered a TrackIR 5. PFunk is right, I've been using the POV hat and a zoom control knob, but it's totally impossible to do that and roll in on something.
  11. Hi, you're probably not going to like my answer, but what's been working for me is studying the manual, watching youtube clips, and flying simple missions. I've been at it for over 3 months, and I haven't even attempted a campaign yet. Also there's eaglewiki where a lot of training docs are. On this forum, check out WarriorX's posts, he put up some good tutorial ppt's. Unfortunately there aren't an extensive set of training missions that give you tons of step by step feedback like the ones that are included w the game.
  12. They're still shooting at me, but I got all of em on my last flight. I mavericked the 1st 4 then gunned the remaining 2 diving in from about 6k (on 2 passes). This may seem obvious but on the egress I try to turn away perpendicularly as the gunners have to aim w more lead. Although maybe I should turn directly away and keep jinking to increase the distance faster.. I also have trouble keeping eyes on the target on the roll in for a steep dive. I should probably come in from a higher alt. I also don't have a TrackIR yet..
  13. Hi, I'm starting to learn the ropes of Mission Editor, I'm trying to make a simple target range w some tanks. Right now I have BMP2s, just for some realistic targets, but they keep shooting me down w AAA. is there a way I can make them inert, or must I just change them to a different type of vehicle? Thx!
  14. I second the *not* saving / restoring mid-flight. In SP, If I really need a break during a long mission, the total pause works fine. Otherwise I'll just have snickers bars and piddle packs stocked at my desk ;-)
  15. Oh, for some reason I mistakenly assumed that high drag bombs were CCRP only. I'll try CCIP next.
  16. I was having major troubles w the Mk82 high drag in CCRP; couldn't hit anywhere near where I intended. This morning in the unguided bombs training, after a particularly bad pass, I exclaimed "Dammit, Chappy, I'm doing it my way!" I then cranked up 'Turn Up the Radio' on my iPod, came in REALLY low, like 1000 ft. and HUD designated a tank, after I pickeled the bombs I switched to the weapon view, and one of the bombs with the ballute deployed landed right on the tanks turret!! I don't think I could pull that off again.. As per the previous posts, I've gotten into trouble when I had the wrong thing set as SPI and dropped at the wrong point. Particularly w the LITENING pod, HUD must say TGP (not TDC).
  17. :smilewink: The Manual Revert- Loss of all hydraulics, spin out of control, engine shutdown, crash! I'm sure there's a correct way / circumstance to use the MR, but it's wicked cool in a sim to be able to totally hose the airplane by clicking the wrong thing! :-)
  18. I upgraded to the latest DCS World A-10C module today; I just hadn't realized all the updates were for the DCS world modules, and not the A-10C stand-alone. Had no trouble running the mission; thx!!! (Now I need to upgrade my video card :-)
  19. Oops, forgot to say I did not hear "Let me confirm your startup procedure" but I'll try again now and keep track of the msgs. Just tried again: no comm / action from instructor after 9:15. Last message heard: "Dodge 1 passing waypoint 3.."
  20. Thanks Sabre, also can I just add these missions to my orig. DCS A-10C (from released dvd) install missions\ folder, or do they only work on a newer DCS World Beta release? Thanks so much for these training missions, this is really what new pilots need to stay interested / motivated over the initial (huuuge) learning curve :-)
  21. Hi I'm trying the 1st training mission on startup and taxi, is there any secret to get the Humvee to start driving? I've done the cold start as per checklist not sure if there's an extra step. Thx!
  22. I figured it out. If I want to search for an arbitrary waypoint in the database and set it to be the steer point, the aap Page dial must be on STEER and the steer dial set to MISSION. Once that's done and I find a waypoint (by Id name) I can then press the LSK to make it the current steer point. No cycling necessary.
