Regarding the Illumination Flares mission, I'm also having problems. Dropping the flares at 8000 AGL gives me a "Check Altitude" message, or something similar, but dropping from a lower altitude like suggested earlier in the thread doesn't work because at any altitude below ~7500 feet, I get a CCRP Invalid message on my HUD. This is getting incredibly frustrating, as I can't pass it by flying the mission, and I have absolutely no idea how to edit the logbook to skip the mission. I'd really like to pass it by flying it, though. Someone please help!!

Setting realistic expectations for the Hornet
Jetguy06 replied to neofightr's topic in Military and Aviation
First off, thank you, neofightr, for taking time out of your busy schedule to answer our many questions. I have a question for you regarding the burble. Has there been any attempt that you know of to reduce or absolve altogether the burble? I'm sure this has been thought of in the many decades that aircraft carriers have been around, but would moving the island to the other side of the carrier do it? Thanks!! -
VFA-204, out of Belle Chasse NAS, New Orleans. An hour and a half from my house. I'd love to see this texture in the sim!! In the picture with four Hornets, the top one is a low-vis scheme for VFA-204.

Thanks Automan!! I followed your instructions and got it working. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong before, but all is fixed now, and I'm even updated to the latest patch. Thanks again!!
-
Thanks for the reply, Automan. I just tried what you suggested, but got the same error I've been getting from the start. The product could not be deactivated because of an integrity fault of the Activation Key. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, if anything.

Thanks. That's the pdf file I was referring to. I ran the registry file, but couldn't see any effect. Am i supposed to run it like an .exe, like I did, or do I need to put it somewhere?
-
Hey guys! I hope I'm posting this in the right place. I didn't get the memo to hold off on updating to the version with the StarForce patch without first deactivating the MiG-21. I've followed the instructions in the pdf file, but nothing has worked. When I go to the module manager, and click on the DRM icon to deactivate it, I get an error that I need a valid activation code. I copy and paste my code from the ED store, and that doesn't work either. Can someone please walk me through the steps to clear this up? I've even held off updating to the most recent patch (the one released a few days ago). Thanks guys!!

Hey guys. My apologies for the late response. From what I'm understanding, it's been working correctly from the start. I was trying to get the switch to work in the sim the way it works in the real aircraft, but I was misunderstanding how it actually functions. The in-game 3 Position Abstraction mapping works perfectly. Thanks for all the help!!
-
Ok, I'm beginning to understand now. I'm flying the training mission #6, and I unload both of my Supers on the C-130. No problem. I then destroy the two Su-27's with my Magics. Again, all's good. I was running into confusion after that, when I engage the two Hawks with my cannons. What I was expecting was the center position of my Boat Switch bringing me back to Nav Mode once my Supers and Magics are gone. So basically, once all I have is cannon left, the only way to get back to Nav Mode is turning the Master Arm to Safe? That's how I'm understanding what you're saying, and what the sim has shown me so far.
-
That's how I have mine set up as well. But, as I said, the middle position does nothing. If I move the switch aft, the cannon symbology shows up on my HUD, with "CAN" in the bottom left. If I move it forward, I get "MAG" in the bottom left, but middle position doesn't get rid of those.
-
Hey guys!! I've been getting loads of headaches trying to figure this out. What I want to do is have the Boat Switch on my Warthog throttle Select the MAGIC when in the forward position, the Gun in the aft, and the PCA Select in the middle. I can get the forward and aft to work, but I can't get the PCA when I recenter the Boat Switch. I've Googled this problem and have found many responses, mostly creating a new TARGET configuration (No luck with that yet), and editing the .lua (I have NO IDEA what I'm doing there). Any help is greatly appreciated. Also, my apologies, but the more detailed and "idiot-proof" you can make the instructions, the better. Thanks guys!!

Hey guys, I apologize if this has been asked before, and I'm sure it has given the age of DCS A-10, but why is the CBU-100 a.k.a. Mk. 20 Rockeye not implemented for the A-10? IMHO, this bomb would be a fantastic supplement (or even replacement?) for the CBU-97/105. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the CBU-97/105... it's a fantastic marvel of combat engineering, and highly effective against armored vehicles. Buuut... Correct me if I'm wrong, PLEASE, but I've read before that the A-10 hasn't and doesn't carry these. The Mk. 20, however, is a weapon that has been used in conjunction with the A-10 almost since the Hawg was first used in combat. That being said, even if the CBU-97/105 actually is used with the A-10, why not have the (legendary) Rockeye? It just seems like there's a huge gap in battlefield functionality due to the lack of the Mk. 20. For example, in the Georgian Hammer campaign, I can go in with a choice of the following on the inner hardpoints (at the wingroots and under the fuselage... Please forgive me for forgetting the hardpoint numbers): Mk. 82's (AIR's or conventional) Mk. 84's GBU's (10's, 12's, 38's, etc.) CBU-87/103's CBU-97/105's The Mk. 82 AIR's are, IMO, far too impractical to use on anything other than APC's or soft targets, NOT MBT's, as you have to get VERY low because of the drag chute, and you break Rule Numero Uno of CAS; NEVER OVERFLY AN ARMED TARGET!! AS for conventional Mk. 82's, I might as well not even load them onto the aircraft, since JTAC never allows me to use them. I had been looking forward to trying out 3/9 Consent to Release mode in the campaign using these bombs on a group of MBT's, but it seems JTAC isn't interested. Mk. 84's and pretty much all the GBU's are far too big and impractical, even for MBT's. CBU-87's don't even pierce the skin of MBT's, and the bomblets get so scattered that you're lucky if ONE bomblet hits one. Finally the CBU-97's are great, but aside from the concerns of the A-10 actually carrying them, I find the parachutes take a little too long to descend in most scenarios, and they are, IMO, FAR too susceptible to wind and environmental conditions as they are floating down, compared to CBU-87-like free-fall bomblets. I think the Mk. 20 fills the gap perfectly, with the proper size and weight, the cluster capability, the strength of the munitions (designed to take out MBT's) and the free-fall characteristics of the bomblets. So that's my question... Why hasn't this fantastic weapon that has been a part of the A-10 all these many years not been implemented in the sim, and is there any plan to implement it in the future? Thanks guys!!

One screen previous from this post, where the list of topics is, there is a button right above that list that says, "new thread." If you click that, you can enter a title and the question below that. As far as the roll to the left and right, the MiG-21 only has trim for pitch, so if it starts rolling, you have to manually compensate with the stick. It's a real pain in the behind sometimes, but personally, I like it. It keeps me on my toes knowing that i have to truly "fly" the aircraft from takeoff to touchdown to keep the aircraft in line.

The really bad thing is that I have all those charts from the manual that number all the switches and stuff printed out and in a binder, and I've been studying the manual, along with flying the training missions and watching tutorials. I had just never come across that particular picture or excerpt in the manual just yet. But the info is much appreciated!! As a side note, I now have the TDC mapped to the Collie Hat Up/Down, since the slew control on the Warthog throttle is an axis, and can't be assigned to the dual-assigned TDC mapping.
-
Ahh... That would make sense... if that's the case, then I don't think it'll hurt the realism too badly if I assign the TDC slew to my slew control on the throttle. Thanks, Zero!!
-
Just a quick question, out of curiosity... In the sim, the controls to elevate or depress the TDC on the radar are the O and L keys, but just out of sheer curiosity, does anyone know how the RL pilot controls the TDC? I'm really simply curious, as there's nothing in the manual, and there doesn't seem to be any controls on the stick or throttle. I'm thinking of mapping them to the slew control on the Thrustmaster Warthog throttle, but only if the RL pilot has a similar control for the TDC. I'm mostly just curious here, and I don't really mind using the O and L keys, as long as the RL pilot didn't have HOTAS(like) controls for it, but I can't figure it out one way or another.

QuiGon, you, Sir, deserve a medal! Thanks a ton!!

Hey guys. I bought the MiG-21 module about a week ago, and I've been having a blast learning how to start up the jet, taxi it, take off, and land. I have select sections from the flight manual printed and in a binder for quick access, including the cockpit layout pictures, and the descriptions of all the in-cockpit switches, knobs, etc., as well as the start-up checklist. I haven't gotten into combat yet, mainly because I don't have all the HOTAS commands programmed yet. I'm using the Thrustmaster Warthog stick and throttle, and I want to program all the things that are on the MiG-21 stick programmed to mine. Here's what's on the MiG-21 stick: Gun Trigger; Trimmer; Autopilot "recovery"; Autopilot disengage; Radar lock-on; Bomb, rockets, missile fire; Gear brake; Fuselage fuel tank jettison. I can't find any of these controls, save for the Gear Brake Lever. The other controls simply aren't on the list, at least, not as listed in the manual. I also can't find the Speed Brake control, or the PTT for the radios on the throttle. Any help is always greatly appreciated. Thanks guys!!

Hey guys. Me again. DCS World and the A-10C module are back up and running again, but I'm running into some crashes already... This time around, I'm flying the Georgian Hammer campaign, WITHOUT CA, since I don't own the CA module yet. The game has crashed twice, both times on the very first mission. To make matters worse, It doesn't produce a crash log. Here's a list of what's in my C:/Users/xxxx/Saved Games/DCS/Logs folder: dcs.log dcs.lol.old DCS-20141208-225344.crash (CRASH file) DCS-20141208-050424.crash (CRASH file) DCS-20141208-225344.dmp DCS-20141208-050424.dmp me.log me.lol.old Would attaching any of these help? I tried attaching one of the .crash files, but it said "Invalid file type." I'm not sure what to do... Any help would be greatly appreciated.
-
The fresh install did it. DCS World is now up to 1.2.12.34915.571. My A-10 module is now re-installed, but all my pilot info is gone. I'll start the campaign over, and as I said earlier, if I encounter any more serious crashes, I'll start another thread with my crash logs. Thanks for all the help. It really is greatly appreciated!!
-
Thanks, Flagrum. I'm doing an un-install, then a full re-install of DCS World, so I'm starting ENTIRELY from scratch. I'll see how that goes. Cheers, and don't work too hard!!
-
I've done quite a bit of searching myself, but either the problem is still unresolved, or the prescribed steps don't work for me. I'll keep looking, though.
-
Actually, I don't think I ever did un-install World, because there was no Start menu option (the Start menu directory under Eagle Dynamics was empty), and the C:/Program Files/Eagle Dynamics/ directory was empty, so I just did another installation. As for the thread you linked, I tried installing from there. I did <cd\> then <cd program files\eagle dynamics\dcs world\bin> then <dcs_updater.exe install world>, but it brought up an error box that said, "Unknown module world." Is that the incorrect command to install the World module?

...Now that I re-read this, when I said I never got a reply on the other forum, I'm referring to a different forum site altogether that no response came from, NOT my older thread from a few days ago on this site. I probably got the point across, but better safe and try to not make anyone upset here, than sorry.

Flagrum, I tried repairing three times, and updating twice. No joy. Repairing just brought up this window for around two seconds. The last thing I remember it saying was "Cleaning up." Selecting "Update" brings up a similar window for maybe a quarter of a second. I'll attach the updated updatelog with this post. As for the re-installing, all these problems come off a fresh re-install of DCS World. What happened was, I was having CTD issues during the Georgian Hammer campaign, and while waiting for a response on a separate forum (which I still haven't gotten), I attempted to free up some HD space by un-installing my old stand alone copy of Black Shark. After uninstalling it, There was no entry for DCS World in my start menu, and I didn't have a desktop shortcut, so I re-installed DCS World, and that's where all the problems started. At first, DCS World would install, but wouldn't start, and would give me either no response (Desktop Shortcut), a missing .dll error message (Start menu), or an error message with alot of 0's in the error code (Launcher.exe). Only after I had repaired it via the Start menu was I able to make it this far. Essentially, now you're caught up. I didn't have a single problem installing DCS World, or DCS A-10C the first time around, and it's really frustrating (at no fault to you, just the situation), because I really miss flying the A-10, and it's only been about a week and a half. All of your help is sincerely and greatly appreciated. autoupdate_log.txt
