  1. I would prefer to have civilian aircraft in DCS for the following reasons: 1: The civilian sims are a mess using obsolete engines, graphics, setup GUIs etc., they're clunky, CPU heavy and completely unintuitive to setup. They allow the most inept third parties to develop 3rd rate modules, yes there are good ones, but the majority are floodware. ED would not allow this to happen in DCS 2: It would bring a lot more players to our favourite sim. This would bring more of the top notch devs, providing more maps, scenery, modules, professional ATC and all those things a handful of devs can't manage. 3: Players would get a much more realistic experience, having to use atc, IFF, navigation in busy skies 4: For me, having 1 great program providing all my sim needs is far better than one very good one (DCS) and 2 rather dated amateurish ones (P3D & FSX) My 2c
  2. Very true, we know more about this aircraft than nearly anything else that is currently in use. The 117 would be based on too much guesswork and personally I would love to see a move away from the FC3 type aircraft being the most modern. It's iconic, the modern Spitfire, I want everything in DCS in the future including civilian aircraft (if for no other reason than to teach people the correct use of IFF, ATC etc., And of course to educate people a little more that military pilots just like soldiers and sailors have to make difficult decisions that if not clearly made within the rules of engagement can end careers and even result in forfeiture of freedom).
  3. Ah Mr. Taylor, you have my eternal gratitude for volunteering in my stead should the devs require the ultimate encouragement. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
  4. Hello again guys, For any of you having trouble with the A10C please make sure you quantize to zero first and then highlight the second shift/ctrl on each active command line. Then right click and select Set Delay rather than Quantize. When finished the command should look like this: Hope this works for everyone. Cheers, Me
  5. Yes please, please, please (have I said please enough?) produce an F16. Ignore the players who say that there is already a DCS quality F16 (in another 3 letter SIM *wink*), there's not, the engine is ancient, the graphics are ancient and the control setup is as clunky as it comes. It's not DCS quality because it's not in DCS. Phrases like "DCS quality" are disingenuous if the module is not in DCS, the old phrase "apples and oranges" comes to mind. This module will make you rich beyond your wildest dreams, your life will become one long party as you will have the means to transplant all those nice vices Amsterdam has to offer to the Caribbean island of your choice. Seriously, there is lots of data out there on this module, it is 4th gen and loved by all. It will sell like viagra in an old folks home because many of us would give our firstborn to have the most well known military aircraft in the world running in the most up to date flight sim (DCS 2.0). I'll get off my knees now, all this pleading is unbecoming, unless I have to do "that" to get the F16, in which case in my stead I will nominate the next person to comment in this thread. I have been told that he or she will gladly make "that" sacrifice for the rest of us and will forever receive our adulation. F16
  6. OK my friend, some good news. It's exactly as you said. The Russian aircraft seem to operate on a 2 state switch whereas the American ones seem to require a switch to be held, it's the same issue I encountered in the F86. So the solution is as follows: 1: Program as above, making sure the switch is unlatched, New Advanced Command, set the press and release and quantize time. 2: Right click on the second (release part of the command) ie. second Shift/Second Ctrl on the lower part. Then select Set Delay. Set the delay to 2.800 on both the open commands and close. 3: Just to be sure we're all sacrificing the same virgin, the commands you're looking for in the DCS command menu on the A10C Sim are the Speed Brake Forward and Speed Brake Aft switch commands. I've had a look at your modding link and am very interested. Thank you for bringing it up, I'm sure I'll have questions, probably lots of them. Cheers, Me
  7. Thanks for the feedback, Space. I'll test it now with a hot A10C in 2.0, try an idea for a solution and get back to you.
  8. Thank you for the feedback. I've got around to re-testing this and on the Mig 15, 21 and a couple of others it works great, but there was still a slight issue on the F86 where it moves a little and stops on the brakes, I've come up with a solution for that too which is as follows: When you look at the top line in the command box it will look like this: SHIFT B SHIFT B (the press part) to fix this highlight the 2nd shift, right click and select Set Delay - Then set the delay to 2.000. It will automatically apply to the latter 2 on that line. Then for the retract part. CTRL B CTRL B to fix this highlight the 2nd Ctrl, right click and select Set Delay - Then set the delay to 5.600. It will automatically apply to the latter 2 on that line. Don't forget to apply the settings to your profile and save. I have not tested the A10C yet, but if it's not an Open/Closed system, you'll probably need to apply this fix also. When applying the fix just test the aircraft and count how long it takes in seconds using the 1 1thousand method (the correct way), that'll tell you how long you need to add the delay for. Have fun
  9. Hello All, Many of you have probably, like me seen the SLD slider button on the Saitek X55 throttle as being rather like tits on a bull. It only seems to work for every 2 press rather than each movement, so this makes it useless for the obvious control such as speedbrakes, well, no more, after much research and tinkering I have solved the issue (hopefully no one has beaten me to it!). 1: Open your Saitek profiler software and click on the little arrow beside the SLD control, then make sure you untick "Latched" 2: Click on the little arrow thingy again and select "New Advanced Command" 3: Set the in the window as follows, for example; for Shift B press and hold Shift, keep holding Shift while you press B, then release Shift first followed by B and the result will look like as follows: 4: Right click on the command window and select Quantize Time, leave the time at zero and press OK as shown below: 5: Do the same in the release command using the "Close Airbrake" command in this case it is Control and B, but just follow step 3 exactly and step 4 as shown below: 6 Check your commands with the "Test Profile" button. Switch it back and forth as shown below a few times just to make sure: Now your SLD button is fully functional. No thanks necessary. If you feel obliged you can thank me in the usual ways, cash, cocaine and felatio! Have fun:joystick:
  10. I also like my plush leather armchair that doesn't exist in the real thing, drinking a coffee while flying, having a cigarette etc.,. I think you missed the point I was making. In some modules trim actually affects the stick position, I don't know about you, but my stick doesn't do that! For those of use who have rotaries a rotary trim option gives us a tactile sense of our trim settings. It's not about an "issue" or forcing everyone to use rotary trim, it's about throwing in a choice which confers zero advantage to the player and has zero impact on the wish of others to program their HOTAS as they see fit. We have a limited set of switches knobs, axes - a little choice goes a long way in not forcing us to double up functions while leaving parts of our hardware unused. It's common sense.
  11. As the title says, this is all about trim or more to the point rotary axes. I noticed while re-programming some keys in 1.5 that the P-51 is the only module where you can pick a rotary axis to control your trim. This was a stroke of genius, which was sadly never repeated in any other module. What happened to the guy who came up with this? Was he paid so much for the idea that he went off to live on a tropical island with his personal harem? Or did some tragedy befall him? Either way, is there any chance that all module makers can take a look at this guy's work and include trim as an axis in all your modules? It just makes life so much easier for those who have and love to use rotarys, particularly owners of the X55. If this has been done to death I've no excuse, I was too tired (lazy) to use the search function.
  12. This was a jet made during Stalin's time in office. Failures were not acceptable!
  13. I thought the Hawk was the only one for me, now I own everything except the C101 and mostly prefer to fly the 21. Looking forward to the Mirage and all the more "modern" jets.
  14. John 你好, Apologies, but I'll continue in English as my putonghua grammar has gotten so rusty it squeaks. Hope things are good in Beijing, it's been a few years and places in China change rapidly. Regarding this dll, I've had a few issues with it in other programs (virtual audio studios and video editing suites), but not DCS. This ZweiBlau.dllissue is not uncommon and like all dll problems there are a few main causes: 1: A recently installed application has replaced the dll with a different version 2: The actual file has become corrupt on the hard drive or there may be a corrupt sector on the drive itself 3: In some cases an infection can also cause dll corruption You mention that it happens when you alt-tab out of single player only. Are you alt tabbing to other tasks which may also share the dll? It may be worth alternating between windowed mode and full screen, just in case that has something to do with it, I have noticed that multiplayer when set to full screen will crash after a couple of alt-tab actions. The other consideration is what DCS is doing when you alt-tab, if you are loading at mission start it may have something to do with that. If all else fails try running te DCS repair. Cheers, Laobi
  15. It's easy, set a modifier on your stick and double the amount of available buttons. Or, do what I did, buy a couple of old cheap sticks, take the sticks off, if you feel able take the electronics out and make button/switch boxes from them with new casing. Position them behind your main stick and throttle and you'll always have extra controls should you need them. Leatherneck did a great job, it's an amazing jet and has taught me a lot more than most other aircraft. Please keep the realism, more buttons equal more choices and control over the aircraft. If you want simplicity go for the FC3 modules or one of the many flight based 1st person shoot 'em ups out there. Some people want the moon on a stick.
  16. Went a little nuts on this one. Got the Sabre, Mig21 bis, BF109, FW190 (wow, after about 15 failed taxi/takeoff attempts I've developed a serious respect for those who flew such planes with shopping trolley wheels on the tail). Also got my first rotary in the form of Blackshark 2. Was also considering the Avio, but I have the hawk. What did you guys blow your hard earned cash on? What else would you recommend? On a side note, new modules=hours of figuring out which systems are most important for hotas programming. Just wanted to add, great job on the regular sales ED, the planes I really love I will splash out on at full price, but in the sales I take a chance on the ones I don't know too much about. As Picksplitter said most of us wouldn't think twice about spending the same on lunch, great prices
  17. I wanted to create a profile that made as much use as possible of the X55. This is my first profile and took a little while to program using the Rhino profiling software and key re-assignments in DCS. I have moved a few things around for my own ease of use, although others may find it useful too. I have also more or less fully programmed the three modes as follows: Mode 1 - Designed for basic flight operations and combat Mode 2 - Designed for overcoming system failures Mode 3 - Designed for quickly putting out fires and restarting engines I would love to hear how this works for you or any suggestions for tweaks or critiques etc., Enjoy, Laobi Laobi's X55 DCS & Saitek Profile.rar
  18. Hi all, Just got a X55 Rhino and spent time researching how to make my throttle rotary wheels trim the aircraft and I think I have solved the issue. Watch this video on different programming modes as this is where I developed the initial idea from: Kudos to Frooglesim for his indepth tutorial. Here is how you do it: Check which keys are bound in your DCS settings under HOTAS on the A10C Sim, we're looking for the Left wing trim, Right wing trim, nose up and nose down settings Then open your Saitek Hotas Profiler and select the rotary wheels under programming. Then click on Rotary 1 and Directional Axis like so Then select New Advanced Command from the drop down on either the Rotary + or - like so Then in each click each of the 3 boxes in turn and deliberately press and release the desired mapped key. Don't press for either too short or long a duration Press OK then rinse and repeat for the other trim controls. Don't forget to press the send to profile button at the end (looks like a target) A couple of final points. You may have to play with the sensitivity settings to get the desired results and you may also have to try slightly longer or shorter key presses. Otherwise this works as intended. I hope this helps others as I couldn't find any instructions on how to get a result as cool as this with the rotaries. Enjoy, Laobi PS: Any chance of a sticky on this please as it will save people a lot of time

  19. Thank you all very much for the kind suggestions and invites. As time was rather limited this week I jumped in on the Tuesday night noob session on Hoggit and found the people there really helpful and the server a great place to practice. As time permits I shall look at all your suggestions carefully. Cheers
  20. Hello all, I installed DCS about a year ago and have been a lurker here for a while. I would love to get involved in a squadron, but I don't want to be "that" player who through their lack of knowledge and experience slows down the whole process and spoils the fun for others playing. I've a few questions: 1: Are there squadrons out there who welcome complete noobs? 2: Due to similar timezones and life committments are there any Squadrons in the UK/Ireland/Northern Europe (or squardons from anywhere else who maybe work odd hours) which are fairly noob friendly? 3: I am practicing startups, take offs, landings and weapons tutorials (still rotten at CCRP). What other things should I be working on so as not to be a total pain in the arse for any potential squadron buddies? Thank you in advance, all advice is very much appreciated. I look forward to hearing from you all. Cheers, Laobi
