  1. So I'm thinking of a project. One involving either laser cut plastic, or CNC plasma cut steel, a whole lot of toggle switches, and some desktop aviator boards. My question is, any idea what the correct paint color match for the mig21 cockpit is?
  2. I'm amazed no one has had one 3d scanned yet then. Disappointing to learn they don't sell replacement parts. I'm not totally up on 3d scanning, would you have to cut the piece in half and destroy it to scan it? given the nature of it being a cup shape. The average gloopy 3d printer wouldn't really be up to the task either of recreating a plastic part I don't imagine.
  3. The spitefire sounds cool. Wear them down with good old British spite.
  4. I played around with it some more and took a cloth to grip the collar, held it by the stick and not the base and it eventually did come loose with no damage. The threads look fine, it was just inexplicably tighter than I remember ever torquing it down. I was thinking why not get the gimbal parts 3d scanned and get them made in MIM metal or 3d printed like that company solid concepts does, the ones that 3d printed a colt 1911a1, but I guess there's a magnet in there with the sensor, maybe it needs to be plastic to prevent it interfering with the sensor? Maybe it would be stupid expensive to do even if worked as well.
  5. Definitely didn't try to mount backwards, it went on easy as can be. Nothing felt strange. I can't even budge the collar now though. If I turn any harder it's going to start twisting the gimbal and I don't want to break it. all buttons and functions work 100% Like it doesn't even budge, it's not even attempting to lift the mini din out of it's socket, it's as if someone glued it on to the gimbal threads and the collar and threads became one. I can't figure out how that could be, It's just a simple collar as far as I can recall.
  6. So I just got the TM warthog. When I put the stick on, everything went on super smooth, I didn't tighten it down excessively tight. But I can't get the stick back off. It feels like it was put on by Conan the Barbarian now, like if I turn it any harder the gimbal might break. Doesn't make sense to me, I've seen videos and it seems like it comes off like nothing. Has anyone had an issue with this?
  7. I just got my Hotas warhog, I'm still in awe at the difference from my cheap joystick. I put these binds into use and they're great so thanks a lot for them. In regards to the throttle stop, I've skimmed through and don't see anyone coming up with a solution. One thing I noticed is the in game toggle binding is annoying by itself because it just kind of goes ballistic toggling back and forth even when you use it on it's default key assignment. Before I read through the whole thread I followed your format trying to make an alternate for it and got this. --Alternate Throttle Stop {down=device_commands.RUDStop_lock,up=device_commands.RUDStop_lock,cockpit_device_id=devices.ENGINE_START_DEVICE,value_down=1.0,value_up=0.0,name='Alternate Throttle Stop',category='Engine'}, Which as you probably already know will not work for the actual throttle stop position. However, I find that it still works better than the default binding, and what I did is bind it to the right engine operation switch in the lift to start position. So I use the left for the engine starter, and the right becomes the engine stop position. It works quite well and it doesn't flick on and off like the default toggle will, you can hold it up indefinitely and it won't make a sound, then release and it moves to it's second position.
  8. Well you might say I jumped head first into the deep end. I saw a video of Mig 21 bis and I had to try it. Not being one who believes in arcade flight games, I decided to go with full simulation mode Mig 21 Bis as my introduction to DCS, and I love it. So much so the hotas warthog is on it's way. The feeling of successfully landing this thing with a smooth touchdown after many failures is very satisfying. Many years past as I used to play the ancient simulators like Janes F-18, Fleet Defender, and F15 strike eagle 3, I remember always looking down on the Mig 21 as an ugly and laughable plane in relation to the modern fighters, because of the way it was portrayed as a turkey shoot plane in those sims. Not knowing the history and capabilities of the plane within it's era. But with a fascination for Soviet era military hardware I really enjoy the learning experience and historical value of a sim like this. Now it's one of my favorite planes. Even though I've been very cruel to it in flight training. I think I would be posted somewhere in Siberia at a nuclear waste facility at this point.
