  1. Sure you got a lotta options to go with, dude. Personally I like the F-16 coz it's really classic. And I miss F-14, kind of a pity to see it go.
  2. You welcome dude. I've got a couple of friends working at HAMF. Those are Brazilians from Embraer working on regional jet liners (ERJ-145). I met them four years ago when I was a sophomore. Of course they wouldn't have the clearance for the WZ-10 sector, but as long as those choppers go trail flight, they should be close enough to see. Maybe I can get some not-so-confidential news from them. It won't matter much for the security issues. Which USAF aircraft do you like the most?
  3. oops sorry to hear that. First glance at your words I thought it was just the software system that had crashed, but now it sounds like something went wrong with the hardware. At least you've got your wife's pc to play with. Should the same thing happen to me I'd be totally toasted - I ain't married, not even in a relationship. lol! I started with Jane's USAF like nine years ago when I was in junior high, had to play with it on my cousin's computer, sometimes in an internet caff coz I hadn't got my own pc till I was 21. Had a little fun with Flanker 2.5 in college, and long before I could have learned about the real stuff in flight, I bought the LOMAC CD, soon after that my LOFC arrived. So I don't have a long history with modern combat sims, hence you'd never need to worry about a desperate situation. Hope you'll be back in sky before long. BTW, there's possibility that the TrackIR that I'm going to purchase will arrive at the hotel before my friend checks in. Presumably it's not ganna work out even though my friend has already made the hotel reservation, right? It's Holiday Inn, CHICAGO OAKBROOK. He's staying apirl 9th through 14th, and checking out in the morning of 15th. And Natural Point is located in Oregon. Any suggestions when I should place the order? I've asked the same question by filling out the NP official qestion form, so far there's no reply.
  4. Hey Flyby. I've done some search for the WZ-10 and so far there's no material information regarding this confidential project. I do read about some speculations which are not reliable at all. It is said that WZ-10 is modeld after the European 'Tiger', and it's under development at Harbin Aircraft Manufacture Factory (try these coordinates: 45.599011, 126.658292 with google map). Since it's confidential, there isn't much to say about it. Sorry about this bro.
  5. Oh that was a couple of day ago. I slept pretty well that night though. I'm running Flaming Cliffs on my computer, with the 1.12b patch. And I've also got TeamSpeak. Frankly I'm not quite good at tactics, if you'd like to do some fly around or missile combat/dogfight with me I'm sure it's ganna be a good chance for me to advance my skills. How do we contact each other when we wanna fly?
  6. Hey Flyby, just dropping in before sleep. Yea I'm pretty busy with both my occupation and my private businees. I'm a hardware engineer responsible for developing drivers for brushless DC motors. Applications vary depending on clients. I take private orders off work, building just about anything I'm capable of. It won't be much trouble for me to find the info, just need some time to translate.
  7. Well thanks Nordic and Flyby. I had to use a proxy to bypass the blocking mechanism of our authority and access the website. The software is pretty cool indeed. As it's the second time I've heard about it, I decided to download and try it. I've already asked my friend to buy the TrackIR 4 pro for me, so I think this software and even its source code should only be fun for me to play with, yet when it comes to gaming purpose I'd like to use the TrackIR instead. No just because that I've already made the order, but also that the graphic processing software would add unnecessary workload to my CPU, and as you can see from my signiture it's nearly two years old.;) Thanks for sharing anyway. I won't by the stock Track IR headset clip coz I was just reminded of the characteristics of the image sensor commonly used today, possibly in TrackIR too. Video cameras have image lag, which makes them dull to modulated light. I think this would eliminate the reason for the Natural Point hardware engineers to introduce a modulated IR lumination. Actually I got suspicious with the modulation idea just because of similar techniques used in other optical devices for better ambient light interference immunity, which now seems unnecessary or even impractical.
  8. Yup, it's the longest thread in the first page. Sorry dude, still got a lot to do in the lab during the day. I'll do the searching stuff for ya this evening. After all it's easier to search for this chopper in our native language. Alex out
  9. Hey guys, friend of mine is going to purchase a TrackIR for me in the U.S. He just asked if I'd like to get the headset active IR clip altogether. I checked Natural Point official site and found out they are just a few IR LED's, this makes me wonder whether I can DIY some sorta samilar stuff coz components like this are REAL handy. Does anyone here know about the IR signiture for TrackIR? Are the IR emitters(LED's) constantly on, or are they somehow modulated? If it's just as simple as a constant conduction, I won't have to buy that hard looking clip stuff. Thanks!
  10. Hey there, Flyby. Good to see your reply. Try a search for this type number WZ-10. I gotta be honest with you, usually I don't pay much attention to such info, I just love flying the sim. For the passed 2 months I barely touched my joystick coz there's a whole bunch of stuff for me to do. Meanwhile I'm learning to build USB gaming peripherals for myself. Kinda busy all the time. Alex out
  11. China Where a lotta things happen every day that you don't know about, and even more that we ourselfs don't know about.
  12. I'll take a look, thanks!
  13. Thanks, I just told my friend to do as you suggested.
  14. oops! Sorry Groove, I didn't notice there was a mismatch of its type when I posted this. Could you please move this thread for me? Thanks, this will never happen again.
  15. Hey guys, first of all it's not me who is at Chicago. A friend of mine is traveling there on april 9th. And I'd like to ask for his favor to bring a TrackIR back to Beijing coz it'll be a LOT cheaper than direct mail order from the official site. To speed things up, he will have to contact his friend in Chicago to get the thing ready by the time he arrives. For certain reasons he doesn't wanna order it from Natural Point(even as U.S domestic order), so he's asking me to find an actual store in Chicago where he can trade face to face. Is there anyone who has some info regarding this issue? I'm going on eBay and Amazon to try my luck now. Your valuable information is appreciated.
  16. I think an option that allows you to turn on/off forest collision model would be a practical tradeoff.
  17. Thanks for your replies everybody. I took a flight this afternoon traveling back to Beijing, and started reading this thread just now. I really appreciate all the elaboration done up there. At least the conception is clearing up in my mind. GA has offered some valuable information regarding this issue. And I think it's just a matter of time that we're ganna have such kinda terrain. I'm satisfied with the answer given above. Way to go! ED.
  18. According to the latest vids, those trees still look like "paper panels". It makes just too obvious a contrast at low altitude when you look down at your hi-res aircraft and the the cross-like trees beneath it. I understand how much workload it's ganna be to render so many trees if they were extremely realistic like in ... say Crysis, but is what we have now the best result that we can come up with? How are trees treated in Need for Speed and GTR2...etc? Just being curious, not making any suggestions.
  19. I voted for the latter, yet I'm not even expecting 95%. Actually it's hard to define a 100% 'realism'. The only thing we can do is keeping getting better. It's a tradeoff between efforts and effects. I'd say it's quite 95% satisfactory when the amount of noticeable flaws becomes insignificant enough for 95% players.
  20. Cool vid! I got no sim to try it out. Yet it reminds me of my attempt to land my model helicopter on a table, a pretty successful attempt with real word aircraft. Much smaller scale though.
  21. Question is, how do we keep the keyboard in sight with such device?
  22. Well sorry, MAXIM, not ATMEL. lol.
  23. Hey man, that an ATMEGA simulated low speed USB peripheral? Looks good! I'm working on a CY7C68013 board, gotta build the TQFP PCB and develope the firmware. This Cypress USB2.0 chip will coordinate with an ATmega64L microcontroller and drive a TFT to give a more sophisticated interface. BTW I've got a Samsung S3C2410 board with USB host and device functions and integrated TFT driving hardware. It's ganna take some time to debug the whole stuff. Since you've made a success, it would be great if you could offer some hint for my lessons. Thanks!
  24. I'd go with F-18 coz I really have a heart for this thing and that I could't atain a copy of the Jane's F-18 hornet.
