  1. Indeed, the presence of the nearby Nalchik ILS on the same 110.5 frequency is the cause of the sudden jumps. See the other thread for a fix (different freq for Nalchik).
  2. Why aren't there today any real good joysticks? I like the Thrustmaster HOTAS set but the feel is so totally different from the real thing. I have to "man-handle" that thing to maneuver the aircraft. For doing precision work like ILS approaches in wind/turbulence or aerial refueling it's very hard for me (a 3000+ hour pilot of gliders, mostly powered fixed wing, lots of IFR, and some rotary) to make fine-touch or pressure-type control inputs. I suppose I will get used to it, but I worry that I will be ruining my real world flying.
  3. Marker beacons operate on 75 MHz AM. They are completely independent of ILS/TACAN etc.
  4. DCS 1.5 - The Beslan (URMO) and Nalchik (URMN) ILS frequencies are the same 110.5. While flying from Mozdok (XRMF) to Beslan around to the west to get onto Beslan's ILS, for a while I was hearing both ILS identifiers in the radio. Could this be the cause of the Sudden ILS Jumps at Beslan?
  5. MFCD for Android tablets (phones) colo -- I believe there is a Windows call specifically to get the actual path name of the "SavedGames" folder you seek, and it will return the string for the locale/language of the user's Windows. Start with SHGetKnownFolderPath to get a CSIDL (a type of GUID) which you can use to access it language independently. Look at this maybe: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/3795023/downloads-folder-not-special-enough/3795159#3795159
  6. The Desert Rock airport near Mercury, NV has been used for all sorts of spook operations. No I don't know specifics. Check it on Google Earth.
  7. Bunraku, yes there are several big discussions on this.
  8. Ok. Weird that it isn't mentioned in any docs. Thanks very much!!!
  9. I looked at the main/large ED DCS World and DCS A-10C documents and neither 'knee' nor 'kneeboard' appear in search results. Is the Kneeboard some sort of add-on?
  10. I just watched this. I solved some BIG problems for me! Thank you. Very well done.
  11. Working OK here. Check your bindings.
  12. Oh I am so glad to see others have my problem. I too have difficulty seeing the HUD and I always switch to night mode but even this is not enough when flying over snow. Plus, strictly speaking, powering down with the night filter can damage the HUD. I know this doesn't happen in DCS. I'm a new user so I am watching this for an answer from an experienced user.
  13. Optimum Circling pattern using TGP. Well I have a long way to go. I'm still playing chopsticks.
  14. Optimum Circling pattern using TGP. He he you hit the nail on the head! It's not knowledge, it's skill and art, just like playing a musical instrument etc. The truly successful pilots practice and fail many many many times, and once in a while ... that ah-ha moment that makes it all worth while. That's how perceived limitations and talent-envy fall by the wayside. I've been an aviator all of my life. I made instrument flight, the old school type with VOR/ADF and basic gyro instruments, the art to which I aspired. I think I reached a pretty good level. I had some great teachers. What you're saying is that there are some great teachers here. I suspect you're one of them.
  15. This has to be the best thread I've read here!! Thanks to everyone who has contributed! StrongHarm, I hope to reach your level some year...
  16. Actually quite fascinating to have a peek into your thoughts on this, and to understand the care that you're putting into uMFCD. Thanks for it all!!
  17. I flew this week with an A-10 driver Thank you very much for all of this! I found this at the Defense Technical Information site [ame]http://www.dtic.mil/doctrine/index.html[/ame] which is loaded with Joint doctrine pubs. Wow! Here is the link to the CAS document [ame]http://www.dtic.mil/doctrine/new_pubs/jp3_09.pdf[/ame]
  18. MapleFlagMissions - a very complete set of "qualification" tests.
  19. I would like to read it.
  20. INS Alignment implementation Yes yes yes. We can only hope that the developers do not let themselves get into the Product Death Cycle. This is where you pay too much attention to users without understanding that features aren't everything. Vision is more important, as is innovation and customer service. Please do not add "dumb down" features!! It was already SO CONFUSING to have the A-10C "sim" vs "game" mode. What the hell? As a new user this was a real source of confusion. What "mode" was I in? What should I be in? How do I change it? Yes I found this eventually but it was really weird.
  21. I think Arma has some scheme for this.
  22. Yes, I can tune the FLIR on our helicopter so that it will see tractor tire prints for example in a field 4 hours after the tractor goes through. It is amazing how tiny differences in temperature can show up.
  23. For full fidelity, the buildings would have to be skin separately for thermal imaging as well. This would really be great.
  24. The standard rate turn is always used when flying IFR. The marks on a real UH-1 are for a 2 min circle.
  25. Ok, thanks whiteside. I'll mark this in case I get into trouble too, ha ha.
