Brunner Force Feedback Joystick Base
bobshopsupreme replied to Mozart's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Hello everyone. I have a similar lack of FFB as the poster a few posts up, but I'm already plugged directly into the USB on the motherboard so that's not my issue. I think I've set it up correctly: I have followed the Brunner instructions about uninstalling vJoy and reinstalling it with the latest version of CLS2Sim (4.26.3) I have vJoy enabled with FFB enabled in the vJoy configurator. I have FFB enabled in DCS I can connect to DCS once I'm in flight, and I can use the force trim, and if I turn off hydraulics I can feel the control forces increase with airspeed. I see the airspeed reported in the CLSS2Sim window But no FFB. I should feel buffet at high-g, stall, gun firing etc no? I'll ask the Brunner helpdesk but if any one has a quick answer from their own experience I'd appreciate the help. It's already good to have trim working correctly, but I presume the FFB is create once it is set up correctly. -
Hello again. Do you have any update on your point about the centre being a bit blurry? Was it he’d position that you have since fixed? I’m now seriously considering this but for the price it needs to be pretty close to perfect. Thanks for the really helpful feedback so far.

Thanks. This is all really helpful (and I'm sure for others too). I have time in light aircraft and gliders too so I'm realistic about what a sim can do. I agree that the price/performance ratio is simply not worth it for the majority of people (and XTAL has a lot of R&D spending to recover so I don't think the price is unreasonable for these small volumes), but that's not a particular constraint for me. It's rather making sure that it moves things on sufficiently that it feels justified. It sounds like you think it is, even if that doesn't mean 'I can't tell if I'm in the Matrix or not'.

Interesting, thanks. I had the impression that the AR module would be retrofittable. The picture they showed I guess is an early prototype so that may still be the case. From your first impressions, would you say it is a game changer in terms of clarity, readability of instruments etc? Or is it still just another step on the road to no-SDE, perfect readability. I went from Rift to Rift S as a no-regrets move (sold the old one for a good price), but I don't really want to buy the Reverb because even though the headline resolution is high, the opinion seems to be mixed on whether it truly moves the game on as much as the resolution suggests. Rift S is definitely incremental, so if I went for XTAL it would need to be another level.

Sounds great. Glad the first impressions are so positive. I'm priapic with anticipation for the next update. Edging closer to getting one myself. My open question is whether this has sufficient internal hardware to do dynamic foveated rendering when possible with software. That would really help its longevity because for the price I wouldn't want to replace it in 2 years. I know it has eye tracking but at the moment only for the auto IPD. I don't know if the latency etc are sufficient to do eye tracking for the purpose of foveated rendering. Also it would be nice to see the cost of the AR module with inside out tracking.

I'm living vicariously through Stefew1966 since the shipping notification. Nearly pulled the trigger a few months ago but made a baby instead. Looking forward to trying this in 2037 when she leaves for college. Very interested to see the video. Make sure you enjoy some flying first though! Findings from others is that the lens quality means it outperforms all others while not needing huge supersampling. Having switched to the Rift S I don't really want to go back to outside in tracking, and I bet the new AR module for XTAL is pricey.

Thanks for posting that French review. Very encouraging on the clarity in particular, and backs up Wag’s post about everything being readable in DCS. This chap reckons that the clarity is somewhere between the Pimax 8k and the 5k+. Again shows that the optics are as important as the resolution. Rift S seems a pretty no-regrets upgrade for DCS and X-Plane etc at this stage.

I think we’re all agreeing. If you can spend the money based on the current product without expectations for the future then it’s fine. But unlike a sim rig or expensive joystick which can last 10 years or more, it’s hard to see something even of this quality being the best for more than 2 years or so until an XTAL2 or a competitor. So having thought about it a lot, I think I will wait for some feedback on the Rift S and the Reverb and get one of those.

I think impatience may win the day for me as well, as well as the fact that the Rift S will play nicely with my 1080. My CV1 has 'just worked', and for other sims like X-Plane it seems the most optimised in performance terms. Things like ASW2.0 (though not implemented yet in any of the sims) show they are trying to maximise performance on given hardware that allows me to run things on higher settings.

Brunner Force Feedback Joystick Base

I've just ordered one of these. Primarily for X-Plane as it is already compatible. DCS support is in the pipeline based on my discussions with Brunner (as everyone here already knows). No timeline that I've seen. Happy to report back and do testing and answer questions once I have my unit in about 2 weeks. -
Same boat as you with a Rift CV1. Am considering everything up to and including the XTAL. If Wags' feedback is correct, the for me Rift S seems like a pretty no-regrets move given the ability to sell the CV1 to get a bit of money back. That will keep me going while everything else shakes out with VR optimisations etc. Availability still seems good on May 21st here in France so I'll probably get one of these as I have friends who would buy it from me if I then decide to take another step up.

I'm in a similar position, considering the XTAL despite very high cost and willing to be a guinea pig. There are a few things making me hesitate: Delivery time is 2 months (new batch in July, based on feedback from VRgineers 2 days ago). 2 months is long enough that we will have feedback on all the other new headsets, VR optimisations in DCS (and X-Plane, my other main use). Much less interesting for me to commit to something 2 months from now. A few reports of distorsion issues at the edge of the image that they are confident to solve with software not hardware but would be nice to check. The lack of current use of the eye tracking except for IPD adjustment. This is coming and will be a free upgrade, but it's not yet clear what else needs to happen to actually use this in sims for foveated rendering and the associated performance gains. Does it need NVidia, SteamVR and/or ED to enable it, and does each actor have sufficient incentive to spend resources on this, compared with other uses like checking which part of a BMW I'm looking at in advertising software? The high price is partly because of the high quality hardware, but probably several thousand of that is amortising R&D cost over tiny numbers of units. So I guess there is the possibility of a consumer version that is nearly as good for a substantially lower cost just by enlarging the target market. In other words, this a pretty massive early adopter tax, but you're paying to jump 2-3 years into the future. If this were €3000 I'd have bought already, but nearly €6000 with taxes is a lot of money etc. Given Wags' feedback about readability in the Rift S and the emerging impressive through-the-lens photos for the Reverb, it may be that those are viable (and much cheaper steps) intermediate steps while I wait to see the full potential of XTAL. I've no doubt that this looks like an excellent headset right now even just with the resolution, FOV and lens quality. Finally, I'm not sure of the latest official position on the consumer version. Sweviver and chums announced it in December, then VRgineers said at CES that they wouldn't go up against the big guys, and more recently Sweviver is talking about a consumer version like it's a done deal. In other news, I have just taken the plunge on the Brunner CLS-E force feedback stick, so I'm happy to be the guinea pig on that as DCS support comes (hopefully this year) and will report back.

F-15C Flight Qualification Campaign
bobshopsupreme replied to Sabre-TLA's topic in User Created Missions General
Great, thanks for the quick response. I confirm that the fix works in 1.5.1. I turned off immortality and completed the first training mission in 1 attempt. I imagine they'll get harder from here... Thanks for the great missions. I always find that having some structure like this is the key to getting the most out of complex sims like DCS. Keep up the good work. -
F-15C Flight Qualification Campaign
bobshopsupreme replied to Sabre-TLA's topic in User Created Missions General
Hello, first post from me. I'm having the 'you've damaged the aircraft cadet' problem as soon as I start rolling on the 1st mission in DCS 1.5.1. I saw this was previously fixed in the 1.2 version by disabling the damage checks. It seems that they are active in 1.5.1 and I cannot get more than 20ft into the first taxi. I have the latest versions of DCS 1.5.1 and the basic flight qualification package downloaded 30th November (file name DCSWOBF15C_CMP01.V1.5) Any ideas? Missions look great so I'd like to get past this first mission! Thank you. Let me know if you need more information.
