I don't think that an 80's matchup has to be completely even. If the mug has a slight advantage against the mirage, so be it, but it is still not as large of a discrepancy as it would be fighting an f-15 or a Su-27 with ERs.

I understand my assessment was a bit hyperbolic and harsh, I was a little annoyed when I wrote it. I guess I am just of the mindset that It would be better for DCS to have a more varied plane set rather than a handful of ultra modern multiroles. I suppose that since the F-18 is the only truly modern aircraft that has been made in full fidelity I shouldn't worry too much. It simply bothers me that almost no one seems interested in making scenarios prior to 90's tech. Its almost like they are afraid of using AIM-7s and R-27R's.

Part of me wishes that DCS would just remove the AMRAAM and R-77 and become a dedicated cold war sim. This way we would avoid the ridiculous power creep of everyone always wanting more modern toys to make the air combat less interesting and dynamic but easier. It would also make it exponentially easier to create more modules as the aircraft would be less complex rather than waste all of this time making an F-18 which will be the only thing anyone will fly on the 104th thereby exacerbating DCS's problems with aircraft diversity.

Hasn't it already been established plenty of times that getting information on more advanced versions of the Su-27 is nearly impossible due to much of the technology being classified.

I really wish there was a server that had the mirage vs the mug-29A or even an S limited to its 80's weaponry. I've found that the aircraft compliment each other well and can have some very fun dogfights well still creating challenging BVR engagements
-
Im sure if the B-1R was in the sim it would be the only thing flown on the 104th. takeoff, fox-3 22 times, land, redo
-
With that many AR missiles it isn't even fun anymore.
-
I highly doubt that the migs "joke" flight model will be of much help against aircraft that are more modern than it in an even BVR engagement. Even if you get the jump on an F-15 in close range that "joke" FM is fairly irrelivent as the 29 will almost always best the 15 in an even turning fight even with out a screwy FM. Also I seem to remember hearing that the 29 had its FM updated. Could be wrong.

Yeah it may be less capable but sometimes it's nice to play the underdog. Who says you always have to fly the best thing around.
-
The A is still a good fighter. Try it out if you want you may enjoy the challenge.
-
You were just firing a warning shot:D
-
Are you referring to the mirages missiles or missiles for other modules?
-
It's already a forgone conclusion that the mirage is outperformed by later, more advanced aircraft so in a 1v1 situation your best bet is just to run or be sneaky. With teamwork and a good GCI however the mirage can be very potent. This is why I wish 80's servers were more popular. It would avoid this odd technology discrepancy we have.

It has been previously established that RAZBAMS missiles are fairly true to life (as far as I have been made aware). I also find it funny how you mention the "quality" of ED missiles even though almost every missile ED has ever made has been horrendously modeled (look at the DCS missile mod if you want evidence of this). Leatherneck made almost all of the weapons for the Mig-21 so it's not like this sort of thing is unheard of.
-
Why would RAZBAM make new missiles if they already have RAZBAMS very well made ones. It would be redundant.
-
Thats a bug? I assumed it was a quirk of the aircraft that the radar couldnt roll independently of the airframe.
-
It happens when you hold the trigger for too long. You have to just tap it
-
Hasn't RAZBAM confirmed that many of these problems were fixed internally
-
Yeah the numbers varied as I suppose the Air Force doesnt exactly tell every one the RCS on its jets. I think that the small CS was the result of some of the ecm stuff that the C and AM F-16s can carry.

Yeah I can't really see too much of a discernible difference in detection range by altering the lines or azimuth. I did actually compare the detection range to the eagle and it seems like the range for the eagle is fairly similar to that of the mirage. In that case how powerful is the 15s radar in comparison to the 2000s? On a side note there was an above post which used a radar crossection of 5m^2. What is the crossection of an f-16? Edit: I googled a bit and it seems that the f-16 and mirage have around 1-2m^2.
-
Yeah after further testing it doesnt seem to alter the detection range much which is why the fact that I have trouble seeing the f-16s in the intercept the vipers misson bugs me so much.

Ok so I did mess around with this in the mission editor. I put a M-2000C and a C-17 around 80nmi away from me and tested the radar in different search zones. I was able to see the C-17 at around 70nmi and the Mirage at around 50nmi or so. Interestingly it seems as though switching back to a large search pattern did not cause me to lose either of the targets but that may have been due to them being closer when I switched.
