How to fly, fight and have a good time in DCS F-86
Maico249th replied to Maico249th's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
Not much to show on joy curves Pitch and roll = -10 Yaw = -10 with a small dead zone in the middle. My saiteks are worn. Good luck Maico -
This is true, I got in a very short burst from about ohhhh, two meters and he burst into flames. I have only had this happen once. It was an "accident" but I will take it :). They are NOT unbeatable.

When I was a kid (60s and 70s) I thought the Cobra was one of the coolest helicopters I had ever seen. It was the Porshe 911 of the choppers. Its slim, small and packs a punch. Two men sharing the move, shoot and communicate. The Cobra could do things others could not. A few years later I was in the ARMY in 17th Cav in Ft Campbell Ky. I saw the Cobra replaced by the Apache. It is a cumbersome and complicated giant compared to the Cobra. I for one would be a first day buyer of the Cobra. It is an epic evolution in technology during its time. Maico

Ok fellow pilots: I am sharing knowledge gained from constantly reading this site and the QSM (Quick Start Manual). MODERATORS, why is this Not a sticky? Here is a list of hints, mistakes and practical exercises. We are going to treat this as a military exercise. We are going to "Pump you up".:) Read, Read and READ the QSM. Also read EvilBivols Tips and Hints. Take a trip, hop on the bus and Read the manual or RTFM (read the f-ing manual) Common mistakes. 1. Most people will have to invert the input on their brakes. Easy enough. In F-86 Real/Axis commands/Click Brakes Left or Right/ Then Click Axis Tune and check invert. ALSO make sure you assign buttons to Unlock Right Brake and Left Brake. Take a night to create a nice profile. This Sim has made me make a special profile for X-52 and TIR. I like it That much. 2. The Uncage lever and the Uncage button are NOT the same thing. Uncage lever has no command to program and must be done by mouse. Uncage button has to be programed to the joystick(I put it on the throttle for stabilities sake) and must be used to get a lock. But you already read the manual right? What? PUSH UPS! 3. Your inputs are not optimal straight out the box. Oh, man... here comes that word again..... READ THIS http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=127678 4. Do not expect the F-86 to be superior to anything but that is why you are "Da Man" and you will out wit the ai. Once you learn hot to maneuver the F-86 you will be knocking them down like flies. Ok, now that you are well read and know your way round the pit... We send you on a survivable mission since we want you and most importantly our aircraft back. So, Do Not try to be a hero. Practice Booming and Zooming the easy targets such as the "F-86 Intercept" of An-20. Get them nasty spins and airbrake timings down pat. Learn to use the sight. Before you tackle fighters get proficient at flying and shooting FIRST. Attack at high angles so you can get good at the "bounce". Do this one or two nights. Be honest with yourself. "Am I good at this yet?" Ok, that took a couple of days of your life. Now we are ready for the nasty. F-86 vs Mig-21. Yes, the 21. Not as maneuverable as the 15 it is the Phantoms against the Mig-17 all over again. Except this time you are in the '17. Get it? Learn how to NOT fly his fight and keep your speed up. Do this for at least an hour or two of training. You will be learning to use the sight again. After a day or two you are ready. Now Nugget are you are ready to have fun? I don't think I heard you ARE YOU READY?!?! Ok, that's better. The single mission "MiG Sweep" can be found in Mission (under Training) Click on the F-86 icon then Mig Sweep. Be James Jabara, Ace, Balls of Steel Supreme. Get in the soup and fly the bowl. That is, stay inside the furball and shoot at the baddies without hitting the good guys. Allthewhile Watch SIX! This is a dangerous environment. However since you came this far I will give you some hints. 1. Program something to fold that Stupid Mirror. Keep it folded while shooting and use it while looking for prey( to avoid being prey). Don't rely on it though... Head on a swivel, remember? 2. Program a button to "Jump into selected aircraft". Why?!? Cos you will die and then you can cycle with F2 to another F-86, hit the button and be flying again. Now remember to Uncage (lever) and fold the silly mirror. GO! Are we having fun yet? Hope so... Maico.

I flew Mig Sweep a few (dozen) times yesterday. On one mission he turned left and then right and up then he turned towards me. I expected a collisions and closed my eyes but instinctively pulled the trigger. A mere two meters in front of me he burst into flames. It was my best kill yet. LOVING IT! Maico:pilotfly:

Velez is the Man! That was awesome. Thanks for sharing. This type of encouragement is greatly appreciated.

In DCS go to Mission (its on the list on right side). Then click on the F-86 icon. Mission Name is Mig Sweep. Its a lot of fun Maico
-
Mig-21, fo' Sho a better fight.
-
But in RL it would be the right Not the mouse hand... Annoying!
-
Try the James Jabara singel mission. Much beter than 1 vs 1
-
Suggestion; if Mig-15 is too much, try Su-25.
Maico249th replied to SimFreak's topic in DCS: F-86F Sabre
Good one. Mig 21 also. Has anyone tried Su 17? -
No Ivo, electrical sight uncage Button and sight uncage lever are two different things. Read Quick start Guide. Electrical S Button must be assigned to joystick. Sight uncage lever must be moves with mouse in cockpit. Good luck Ok i help but you read the qsm at least 10 Times' :) . First uncage lever w mouse. Now Hold Electrical uncage Button until red light is on(while Looking at target) Once light is on release Electrical cage button Put sight on enemy and Fire

xxJohnxx wrote: "I am still strugling to fight gravity, let alone the MiG-15. Thanks for the tip though!" LOL We all struggle with gravity Ha, ha. Good one. SimonC wrote: "The MiG-21 is far newer than the F-86F, they're not really designed to fight one another. The MiG-21 included in 1.2.9 is the AI model only, ready for when the module is released. The F-86F is intended to fight against the more similarly dated - and therefore easier - MiG-15. " I bet there were a few guys in Vietnam that wish they had F-86 to fight against the "older, obsolete" Mig-17. The F-104 was supposed to be much better than the Mig-17/19 but it was a failure. Yes, 21 is superior but not going to have his way all the time. Imp wrote: "I'm not arguing the current damage model of the MiG-21 (and MiG-15) is correct, but the .50 cals are REALLY weak. Yesterday I had to put over 60 rounds into another Sabre to take him down. Very unlike the GSh-301, which will usually kill with the first short burst. " That is what I am saying man, Precisely. The Mustang and F-86s guns are weak. I covered the '21 from bow to stern and.... Nothing. Cobra487 wrote: "The AI MiG-21 in-game currently has some significant damage model bugs, so expect some strange results (and visual issues)." What damage modeling? All I saw was a little stream of fuel in over ten engagements. dumgrunt wrote: "gotta say, I tried the the fishbed after having no luck after hours locked in with the fagot. and much to my delight, i actually got rounds on fairly quickly. this didnt lead to a splash, but was satisfying none the less getting a streak of hits down the fuselage. at least much more satisfying than spending 10 minutes turning, then 30 seconds climbing, and repeat with the fagot. the mig-21 was apparently an even match for the f-4, following the experiences in Vietnam, perhaps it makes sense the sabre can down the fishbed in a gunfight? " Now, you my friend know what your are talking about. Good stuff.

My fellow Pilots: Its been a while since I posted here. First let me thank Belsimtek for the successful release of this great module. I am under the impression that the Mig-21 was released with the F-86... please someone verify. Fighting with the '15 leads to at best a stalemate for me. The 15 is too quick a climber and I am too slow to kill him. After a few minutes of T&B I am tired and begging him to kill me :helpsmilie:. So, enter the '21. Ahhhh now there is fight. He is in it to win it and gets down and dirty. I am avoiding buildings and trees while we fight. He scissors and uses B&Z. What a fight! Fantastic. HOWEVER, there is a fly in my cake. I finally got him low and slow and he pulled up in front of me pretty as could be. Locked him up and hit him with a BUNCH of .50 cal. He just flew away. This happened a few times. (Yes, just like the Long Nose Dora 9) I was about to give up when on one flight he suddenly ejected after I had hit him two or three times. If I have one complaint is that the .50 are really weak. (Or the Mig is made of Steel.) Please do try a fight against this opponent. It is fun, and so is the James Jabara mission. The F-86 is nothing short of EPIC! Maico
