That's cool. Just curious. ModMan makes mods actually feasible to swap around, that's all it really needs to do.

when the 3D 6DOF cockpits for Lock On?
RedTiger replied to redbat's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
ED likes to actually make money? WTF!!! EDIT: To add something constructive, can anyone name one PC game developer out there that actually stands up the the expectations of the random forum goers expect of ED? Most PC games developers release bug-ridden garbage with multimillion dollar budgets and games that are a tenth as complex to develop as FC. Can you think of one publisher/developer that actually gives a crap out a product seven years that its been out? I can think of one, Blizzard, but that's probably only because WoW has made them all billionaires. They have a budget ED could only dream of. -

The google comment was a joke intended to mean "RTFM". The reasons why Lock On/FC/FC 2.0 does not and will not have 6DOF have not only been covered many times in the past, they've been covered since FC 2.0 was first announced. I was assuming that, seeing as how you have probably purchased FC 2.0, that you had taken the time to read all the documenation. I also assumed that maybe you had wondered what the hell this Lock On stuff is about and maybe read up on sim prior to buying. Hint: you bought a seven year old sim at the end of its product lifecycle. -
when the 3D 6DOF cockpits for Lock On?
RedTiger replied to redbat's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Its not so much the question, nor that it has been asked before. Its more of what I like to call the "born yesterday" factor. :P To quote the OP: How about never? Lock On is old -- seven years old, actually. FC 2.0 is a farewell pat on the butt. We're all very appreciative for that pat, but we understand that this is the final coat of paint on a product that ED has decided has reached the end of its lifecycle. The "born yesterday" factor, speaking only for myself, is the disbelief that there is a significant number of people out there who are interested in Lock On that are not already eating, drinking, and breathing it. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy to see a crapload of people buying an ED product, but at the same time I wondering how many of them were maybe very young when it was released and are just now discovering it. The "common sense" bit is really just as much a jab at myself than anyone else. My suspicion about the age of some posters comes from remembering how I was when I was teenager discovering internet forums about games that I liked. How to put it...quick to complain, quick to ask questions -- slow to search, slow to research, slow to listen? ;) -

Is it possible to sticky common sense to the top of this board? How about directions on googling information on the developmental history of Lock On? -

When? How about now-ish? http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=51693 ;) -
I said "yes" just to make it known that I'd like to see it, but why would we have to pay for something that was done for free before? That's like asking if we'd pay for TacView or ModMan.

ModMan is a beautiful piece of work, but what about BS and FC 2.0 make the graphics tweaking not an option?
-
Going on memory here: 1. There will be a .lua file somewhere, maybe "config.lua" that will have a line that says something like "haze: 1". Set that to zero instead of 1 and it should turn it off. Someone else reported strange side effects from doing this, so make sure you backup that file. 2. I think the best you can do is set it so that only friendly units show up on the F10 view.

With night vision goggles! :smartass: As far as Flamming Cliffs go, unless you're using the Su-25T and the mercury pod, you probably won't be. The A-10 would be limited to illumination flares and/or using an IR maverick. But then you're searching through a soda straw. Related to this, I can't remember, did A-10 pilots in Desert Storm have NVGs at the time or were they indeed relying on Mavericks?

Does this version of ModMan allow for tweaking graphical variables like you could with old FC?

How to free your mission of the SAM’s
RedTiger replied to HiJack's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
An A-10 is not a SAM killer. Is there anything else in the mission assigned to kill those SAMs? -
Yep, the problem was that I didn't notice the scroll bar. I scooted the bar over and found TrackIR sitting their as a device. Then assigning the z axis to zoom worked. Thanks!

Yep, I'm sure. Sleep tight. ;) -

Nothing strange there. You're seeing the edge of the wing, the sidewinder on the pylon and the top of the variable intake ramp. Look over when you're flying at 0.9 mach then slow down, you'll see them move. http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/9/92/F-15E_Strike_Eagle_is_parked_by_a_crew_chief_from_Elmendorf_Air_Force_Base.jpg -
Opinions, Get FC2 or Wait Until DCS A-10C?
RedTiger replied to WindWpn's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Flamming Cliffs is plenty simulator for you if you are at all interested in trying to realistically engage in air to air combat. The lack of buttons to push doesn't change that. The important parts of air to air combat are all there, if you want to explore them. How you actually fight and employ your aircraft is the focus, not how you operate a piece of machinery. The machinery is incindental. -
The explanation for those in the A-10 was that it was the pave penny pod picking up a laser spot on something being painted by ground troops.

No problem Simbo, thank you, that was a big hint. I don't think I was aware that there's a scroll button at the bottom to move the list over. I'm guessing TrackIR is there, but I need to move the list over to see it. I'll report back when I get home. Thanks!

Again, no clue what you're talking about. I have nothing to deselect from the "TrackIR Absolute Longitudal Shift...". You know the axis commands, how it displays rows and columns? You know how you can click on one "cell" (Ex. Pitch and "CH Fighterstick") and assign an axis? By my TrackIR functions...nada. There is nothing to click on. There just a big blank space. I'll post a screenshot later, if I get a chance. In other words, I cannot modify TrackIR in any way, shape, or form within FC 2.0. My TrackIR is not showing up as just another device with axes I can assign. I got my CH HOTAS, my Saitek Pedals, and the mouse. My guess is that perhaps I have too many devices. Maybe FC can only recognize up to 3. I have never seen any sim, for that matter, that treats TrackIR as a device with axes you can assign. That's very odd.

Well, as EvilBivol-1 said in that thread, any limitaion was to prevent graphical glitches and artifacts. If there were full 6DOF from the get-go, then you'd have all the youngsters complaining that the cockpits are "crap" because they're not set up correct. The ability for 6DOF is left intact for the "advanced user", if you will. ;)
-
No, you're not alone: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=51388 That isn't the only thread where this solution is given. I am also experiencing this, very little Z axis movement. To be honest, I have no clue what they're talking about with "Absolute Longitude Shift Camera View". I see that in my axis listings, but there is no way to assign any thing to any of the TrackIR axes. The rows are blanked out, nothing to click on to open up the panel where you assign an axis. I'll see if I can get screenshots later. I'm hoping there's a simple answer to this. EDIT: There's also this: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=51693 Definately going to have to try that this afternoon!

"Attack my enemy" What does this command do?
RedTiger replied to RedTiger's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Ok, just tried a 2 v 2. Told my wing man to pincer to separate the bandits. I lock up one and give the "engage my enemy" command. No response. Dead silence. Not a "negative" or anything. Just silence. I engage my bandit. My wing man goes defensive. Then he gets shot down. I manage to kill one bandit, the other bandit kills me at the same time I kill him. In other words, he did nothing. Just flew right into them. *sigh* So, can I safely say this command does nothing? I have a feeling this command has never done anything and its just a left over from old Lock On. No one has ever been able to provide any information on what exactly this does. I don't mean to sound pessimistic, but it is what it is. My suggestion would be to make this an auto-sort command, but I'm afraid FC is a done deal at this point. Oh well. :) EDIT: Before anyone suggests anything, please be aware that I've been playing for quite some time and I know how to herd the AI wing men around. I was hoping this command would be improved somehow to actually *do* something, maybe something to make handling a four ship easier. -
"Attack my enemy" What does this command do?
RedTiger replied to RedTiger's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
Thanks ReOrdain. My manual wasn't working, but now it is since I updated Adobe Acrobat. "Player requests wingmen to attack enemy aircraft that his attacking him" That's still vague. In old FC, I experimented with this command a lot and usually got a "negative" from my wing man. I need to try it out in 2.0. In the mean time, I'd still like to know exactly what the AI will attempt to do when given this command. -
I may finally get an answer to this after years of wondering...what exactly does the "Attack my enemy" command do? Now in FC 2.0, your pilot says "Weapons free". Does this mean that you're ordering your flight to "fire at will"? What I'm really, really hoping this what this command does is provide an auto-sort. Falcon has this and its something I've always felt Lock On could use. You lock up one bandit, issue the auto-sort, and your AI wing men will do their best to target a bandit *other* than the one you have locked. Makes handling a flight of four much easier. Auto-sort or not, I'd like to know what this command does! Can someone from ED or a tester answer this?
