Hehe...you're a funny guy. I'm going to start trying to learn how to at least read Russian soon. Maybe in a year or so I won't need the translator! :)
-
Heh, I'd be lying if I didn't say I've always been a little surprised that a Russian company was working on an A-10C simulator for the USAF, ANG, or whomever. :) Glad to see that someone believes that a good products is worth paying for, no matter what country it comes from.

QFT. What has that got to do with the price of tea in China? There will be SOME explanation of how this proves his point, I'm sure. EDIT: To be fair, I see his other point and to some degree would agree. It would be easier without all the irrelevant subterfuge and misdirection though. -
How do you think about Russian ATGM?
RedTiger replied to plane00's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
This probably the most glaringly obvious example of the AI's ability to lock on to anything instantly with any sensor. They obviously are not using the same Shkval we are. ;) -
Please lord, please let this not de-evolve into what threads on this plane usually de-evolve into. Oh well. Wags or Bivol will probably delete all this chatter anyway. :D
-
Just imagine Wags saying this April 1st 2009: "We have completed our F-22A simulation work for the USAF. We are pleased to announce that the USAF has authorized us to create a version for the commercial market". :megalol:

But thats what its going to end up doing, right? Fighting Taliban? Isn't that always the way it is? The F-15 gets designed to counter high and fast interceptors and future 4th generation Soviet aircraft in WWIII and it ends up fighting under-matched Iraqi and Serbian MiGs in very limited conflicts. You design your kit to take on the biggest and bestest stuff the civilized world can imagine just in case but find that the anyone who is civilized doesn't want to fight and die any more than you do, no matter how much they rattle that rusty sabre. So you end up fighting a crazy colony of fire ants in an obscure part of the world with your shiny new Starship Enterprise. So who's designing the "5th gen" version of the A-10? The one that can snipe a single Taliban individually from long range, loiter around for hours, and has near total IR stealth? :pilotfly: -

I'm going to beat GG to the punch with a question; let me guess...no launch override on the real thing? -
The only time I've ever seen this was when I tried to play a 1.12 track on 1.02 LOMAC. Are those two individuals using a different version?

Actually, if you watch one of Wags' producer notes for BS, IIRC you have to line up the targeted vehicle with a designator on the HUD to even get a launch authorization. So in other words, yes, your movement is extremely limited. -
F-15 over Lithuania (Baltic Air Policing)
RedTiger replied to Kusch's topic in Military and Aviation
Either he was trying to show you that there have been Europeans policing European air space OR he was trying point out how much US kit the Europeans are using for said policing. Both make sense as a retort based on what you posted. :noexpression: Again, just my take. No comment here. -
F-15 over Lithuania (Baltic Air Policing)
RedTiger replied to Kusch's topic in Military and Aviation
Perhaps he is lamenting that they aren't air-policing themselves i.e. relying on the US to do it...? Thats my take. -
That explains it, thank you, and yes, I remember reading that the MiG-29 had something similar to this. I've seen something (I can't remember what) where someone said that the MiG-29 had a similar feeling to the F-15 CAS. Good question. I can barely breath on the hat switch and I've already trimmed too much. Its impossible to get very precise control. You need to have an analogue switched mapped as an axis. Luckily I have the trim wheels on my stick.

Can anyone clue me in on why a curve is preferred for the SFM planes? What's the benefit?
-
I think the general practice is to make it a straight line for the Frogfeets and some sort of curve for the others. The SFM Russian planes are always a bit porpoise-ish and like to pitch up and down.

Aw...my hopes were dashed upon reading the thread. :P Found lots of iffy photos out there, some which were obviously just a mock-up. This was the only one I found that looks like it might be a photo of the real thing. http://img95.imageshack.us/img95/6079/f22ausairforce182kz7.jpg Here's a close-up from outside the canopy showing some details: http://www.airliners.net/photo/USA%20-%20Air%20Force/Lockheed%20Martin%20F-22A%20Raptor/1039997/L/&width=768&height=1036&sok=keyword_(%27+%22F-22%22%27_IN_BOOLEAN_MODE))_&sort=_order_by_photo_id_DESC_&photo_nr=344&prev_id=1041649&next_id=1036073

Not to mention a big fat CRASH! If I put clouds at 9 or 10 with anything above medium water, the sim crashes at mission load. As a rule now, I don't run with very high water. The FPS loss on my system is just plain stupid for no apparant reason. I don't get it. High = cloud reflection and Very High = cloud and surface reflection. The only thing I can think of that explains the 20 FPS hit I get with very high water is that the sim is rendering the reflection of all the terrain and objects above the water, since water is rendered under all terrain.

DCS: Black Shark - Q&A **READ FIRST!**
RedTiger replied to EvilBivol-1's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
This is an EXCELLENT question. The Shkval doesn't have thermal capability. Vehicle smoke or smoke from arty would be an interesting addition. So in addition to his question, can we maybe set up smoke screens as a scripted event in the ME? EDIT: for that matter, is the effect of smoke masking the Shkval's LOS even modeled at this point? -

Lets see how many people attempt to address/refute this. Do other countries besides the US have such a thing as a "credit score"? This is rather basic and really on a personal level but if not, here's a simple explanation; having NO debt is a bad thing. No debt = no credit. And no credit basically means exactly what AlphaOneSix said, no confidence in lending anything to you. You WANT that confidence. You're going to be very limited in what you can accomplish without it. OTOH, if its due to regulations, thats also bad. However thats a conscience decision made by the government and one would hope they're weighing the advantages vs. the disadvantages. EDIT: Ok, we have one brave soul, didn't see you ther Wilde! :) -
Something like this will probably be in DCS. If you've played LOMAC before, it sounds like you've never turned up the cloud level all the way. :P Nothing special about the video, the cloud level has just been turned up all the way.
-
Interesting, thank you! :) Hey hey! Good luck with this one! Finding this stuff out is next to impossible for some reason. We have a group of what are basically enthusiasts who have enough info to work on the Falcon series and you can find western HUD footage on youtube, but apparently no Russia or former Soviet pilot has ever bothered to tell anyone if they have calls for their weapons. :noexpression: The same could be said for A LOT of other stuff like their brevity code, ATC procedures, etc. The info is just not available. Ever seen those gents who do historical reenactments of ancient Roman legions? Even they have more info on that stuff than we do on some Russian and Soviet stuff. :P

Don't UK Police carry pepper spray, mace, tazers and the like? They said at one point they didn't want to resort to batons. Please tell me they have other non-lethal options besides batons.

And "Design inspired by Alpha Centari". :D Roswell was '47 btw. And as far as what is publicly shared (if you want to get particular), the SR-71 wasn't stealth. I once read something to the effect that it should have had a RCS the size of a barn, but instead only had one the size of the barn door. :) IIRC it was even tracked by civilian air traffic controllers on at least one occasion. -

You have a point but OTOH, you have to wonder if some people really understand the definition of "total and complete economic collapse". Not just a depression or a recession, like the entire system just falls apart and ceases to function. If two super powers compete technologically and then one suddenly throws in the towel economically while the other one just pretends the competition doesn't end and continues R&D, it can make you skeptical about the towel-thrower. Cold War era NATO vs. Cold War era Warsaw is very debatable. The farther you get from that however, the harder it becomes to debate, IMO. If Russia suddenly one day just unveiled a plane that had 100% of the capability of something like the Eurofighter or Raptor or a missile that could directly compete with the Aim-120D or Meteor, I wouldn't be surprised one bit. One can accomplish a lot in the woodshed or garage with enough ingenuity and money. ;) The kicker here is whether or not they can produce them in any great number. EvilBivol-1 does a good job of explaining some of that here: http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=29396
