  1. Hi all.

I've built many a system myself - but now's the time to let someone else.

    As title really.

    Flying @4k (no VR YET).

The system will have 64GB RAM and be paired with a 3080 until its MLU.

They can both destroy AAA playstation games, I'm looking for recommendations for DCS

I'm not looking at Intel as I intend to upgrade the processor in a couple of years time and want to stay with the same socket and not bother with the motherboard shinanigans.  Just take out and put in.  I can't upgrade my current i7 to it's newer sibling for example.

The company I'm looking at has the 7-9800x3d as £87 more than the 7-9800x3d.

(GOD those numbers are confusing.  Don't get me started on ZEN and AM sockets)!

The 7800x3d is £42 cheaper, but I'm not thinking about that one.

I've looked at benchmarks but open to suggestions.  Any thoughts and recommendation MUCH appreciate.

    MrR.

  2. Bizare one this.  Only noticed the other day.

REALLY HAVE tried to find key conflicts and am happy to be corrected if it's working as intended.

I fly exclusively in the front.  George transits for me while I target, then I take over to fight and dodge.

    Left MPD T1 = c-scope.
When I turn OFF george with the c press, it toggles OFF the C-scope.  Like I'm pressing the button.  Never done this before.
I turn c-scope back on with my cougar button, and lo and behold when I turn George off again ............. IT goes off again!

When I press C on its own to turn George ON, the button is NOT pressed and c-scope isn't back on. (ruling out the key bind duplicate).

The C button it would seem is only programmed for the George toggle, and there is NO key bind for T-1 (I use cougar MFDs).

     Any ideas?

I have also just rebound the George key and he still turns it off.  It's like he's been programmed that way.  BIZARE!!!!  Why does he tinker with my front seat panel.

"Why the c-key?"  I hear you ask - it's part of a macro I use.  Swap to George and then show the action circle.

    Video to demonstrate.

  3. I fly 100% in the front.

80% with George flying for me whilst I target and tell him where to casually fly using the menu system.  I take control for take off and landing and any quick actions.  Often I'll also fly like the FA-18 - flying manually AND targetting.  That is interesting !

My macros are set to assume the comms rose is up and starts on flight mode.

Sometimes the macro may skip a selection.  Many a time I've turned off my flares by mistake.

Having each command seperate would be SO useful.

    +1 please.

Having recently tried that other sim with fully working ATC and com ladders.

It would massively improve DCS. Following the directions of ATC sets you up for perfectly lined up landing. Even in full VFR, you don't have to see the runway. Just follow directions of speed, attitude and heading and you end up on final with the runway a head of you.

    +1

Scanning through this I was thinking about mentioning the "other" sim too!!!

  5. Gotta say, +1 for George.

Bob is fine as an arcade mechanism, but George is ... so much more refined.

On my part, flying on the rotorops server with a 20 minute shuttle to the action he crashes 9 times out of 10 half way there.  Sometimes into a building, sometimes my joystick accidently sliding down (yes I know, don't work when you could be staring at a screen for 20 minutes lol)!

Never have a problem in the Apache.

No idea how long one might take to appear..  In the meantime, its pretty striaght forward to create hotkeys and multi function buttons.   Ok, you have to set a keyboard bind manually in DCS first - I've manged to get pretty much everything i need working on the Streamdeck now.   I fly on Rotorheads server, and having a single button press for the CSAR and CTLD commands is great.

Funny enough, that's EXACTLY what I've just done!  Great minds hey!

  7. Me too!

Would love to have all commands as seperate keybinds.

I've got macros for different commands - all working on the assumption i'm starting at a set point on the command rose.  Sometimes I may not realise I'm in a different command (in hover for example) and the macro turns off the defensive aids (not good)!!

Being able to program seperate binds would be great!

  8. I've managed to fly in every time today.

Zoom in to the map on the coalition page.

Click join --> 10-20 second pause.

Select aircraft from the down ( 5x today it was snappy and quick  - just now had a 10 second delay).

Pick from that list and I'm in.

    Once in, >70fps.

Yes - works for me and probably not for you, but hopefully it'll help someone!!!

    Good luck all!

  9. It's really really laggy for me.

Join coalition and then click a drop down --> lag.

20 seconds and the list will appear.

Repeat again with sometimes 1 minute waits, and then the game will eventually crash.

    Haven't MP since the update.

    Single player = GREAT.

EDIT:  just tried rotorheads.  As long as I don't click a drop down, I can scroll to the slot and I can get in.  Hope this helps with a fix.

    Edit 2:
    scrolling didn't work.  False hope.

Twice now I've zoomed right in to the map on the coalition screen.  Waited a bit.

THEN gone to the slot selector.  Seems to be more responsive this way.  I think it's loading some map texture or something.

  10. As the title really.

This past week or so, DCS has taken even longer to load up to the menu.

    (Yes installed on m2 SSD).

On the 15 years of DCS message - in task manager, the Windows security Antimalware Service Executable goes to very high and an even higher % of CPU than DCS.

I have seen there has been an issue with PUA:Win32/Packunwan and that it is affecting:  E:\DCS World OpenBeta\Mods\aircraft\F-4E\bin\HeatblurJester.dll.  Once DCS is loaded the Antimalware goes back to 0.1% and very low.....

Could this be an issue?  I have tried allowing it within protection history, but it never "saves".

    Any ideas?

    TIA - happy flying! :pilotfly:

  11. I set up MAVs and they work fine.

Half way through my A-G session I get an air contact.

Go to cage.  Lock up and destroy.

Weapon selector to B to get out of cage, and then back to TV.  The MAVs now won't light up ARM - and they now won't uncage.

It's as if the "system" is stuck in A-A mode.

Any ideas where I'm going wrong?

    pre-edit before posting -

I cycle to B and then back to TV - the MAVs won't rearm.

Switching delivery mode from direct to off, AND weapons to ARM and then rockets and back re-lights the ARM panel.  So that's okay.

  12. Bizarre one this.

Upon loading a mission (MP or single) my trim works for pedals, but NOT for cyclic.  (I'm in the gunner seat).

Press trim up and the pedals hold.  The cyclic has no adjustment as if its not listening for a trim command.  Trim reset works for the pedals also.  So it is good and working for pedals.

HOWEVER, if I clear the Trim UP key in the key commands, and then re-program with the joystick key, it then works for both as "advertised".

Get out of the mission and reload - same problem.  The key IS saved and there appears to be no conflict.  Clear key binding again and re-program, and it works again.

I had a complete load up failure the other day.  Did a repair and then cleared my config etc to get the game up and running.  I replaced the copy of my keys I had saved and everything worked.  Then last night and tonight this issue.

Any ideas?  It's got to be on my end, but...................................

    TIA.....:pilotfly:

A little video to add visual clarity.....

edit:  Now it's not working at all for the cyclic.  Deleted the config folder and rebuilt from there too.

Thinking a total reinstall may be in order.

EDIT 2:  Just seen on reddit about the FFB in the misc option.  It was on, now OFF - still not working at all....

  13. I'm interested to see a possible side-by-side comparison of low vs hi versions.

Being British, I am really looking forward to the South West part, but don't (at present) care too much about the rest.  I'm thinking I'll plump for the SW, and just use low res for the rest.

Are there any other maps / images that I have missed that could "persuade" me to go for the entire map?

    TIA.

  14. +1 for X-56.

That thumb rotaty dial is AMAZING for rudder.

I've had some top notch VKB pedals for a couple of weeks now.  They are "better" (AND WELL WORTH THE MONEY) - - but I still prefer the dial. {at the moment, still building muscle memory}.

I exclusivly fly in the front seat.

Navigate manually -> George when I know I'm in a safe area / fencing in / looking for targets -> Manual to find the firing position then -> George for when I'm firing -> manual when the inevitable "laser ranging" gets shouted at me!!!

    LOVE IT!

  15. Hey chaps.

Logitech G Saitek PRO Flight Rudder Pedals:
    I'm NOT loving them.

     For the Apache.

Can you remove the springs for recentering?  They are "so" hard to move.  Thought they were a pure slider.

I HATE having to keep pressure down to maintain the rudder.  I know you can use trim, but coming from the lovely x56 rotating wheel where you move and it site, I just hate it (I have just got the Winwing setup with no sensible rotary).

(Yes, I have rotated the sensitivity in the middle 😉 )

Any ideas except returning them and saving for an un-sprung model?

You like it the hard way, that's apparent from above, as there's already in FCR screen, on the left, place where You can see all targets that was found by FCR, and You can pass them to the TG points with one click. Then it's just matter of selecting one from the list and ACQing it with TADS slaved. 😄

I never knew that.  This is the way. Thanks.

When I say I like it the hard way (!!) I mean I don't want to blindly ripple radar missiles.  All's good, thanks again 👍
