Controller Chaos
Florida replied to Florida's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
Thanks for the reply. I have already taken care of the save advice. Now I have to figure out how to control my TrackIR. I have found that when you change everything and click OK, it does save everything all at once - I quit and went back to find that everything was still set up the way I had done it. The re-registration thing hasn't come up the last 2 times I started the app. I'll take your advice on that one, too. -
Well, I have repeatedly pressed the Spacebar, to no avail. Maybe related, but when I start any of the Training missions, the mission opens paused. I have to hit Escape to pull up the menu, and then hit Resume before the mission will start. In any event, the Spacebar works for the first couple. I will try the Trigger and see what happens. Not at the sim right now, so I'll try later and report back.

Training Missions Won't Advance I've been trying to get all of this to work for awhile now, and I seem to finally get all of my controllers working and wanted to go through all of the A-10C training missions. Got through the first 2, and then started the Start-Up lesson. Got the instructor speech, and then the "Press the Space Bar key to Continue" prompt. The space bar doesn't work. Worked with no problems for the first 2 lessons, but this time, pressing the space bar does nothing. I tried moving around the cockpit and using some of the switches and buttons, and the mouse cursor works fine. So the sim is working. I went back and loaded the HUD lesson, and the space bar works fine there. Tried running the Repair and it didn't help. Any idea how to fix this? I'd like to go through all of these training sessions if possible.

I am trying to complete the training modules on the A-10C, and the Fundamentals has me stymied. I've got to the point where I am supposed to activate the DMS and put the camera "pointer" in the box designated by the training video. I can't seem to control the camera - sometimes it will stay put and most of the time, the cursor on the right screen keeps moving to the right, and the camera just keeps scrolling to the right. Sometimes, I can get the cursor in the middle of the box, but it won't stay, and the training module seems to want me to do something before it will continue. Any hints on why the slew keeps moving, and can't be controlled? BTW, I am using a Saitek X-55 controller and assigning HAT 1 on the stick to the HOTAS Slew. If that matters.

Controller Chaos
Florida replied to Florida's topic in Release Version Bugs and Problems (Read only)
So since I have 4 controllers listed (X-55 stick, throttle, rudder, and a CH throttle quadrant) I have to save each one separately, and then load them one at a time each time I run the program? What happens when I set everything up and then say OK? Is all that work lost next time I load the A-10? And do you load like you save - click on a controller column and then say "Load profile"? I dumped the Saitek Profiler - it was causing more problems than it solved. Never used it with my FSX stuff, anyway. As for my last question - do you have any idea why I am being asked to re-register my A-10 every time I load DCS World? When the box comes up, the registration number is already there, and when I click on OK, it tells me I'm already registered, and do I want to continue without re-registering. I click Yes and everything loads fine. -
I have spent hours trying to figure out how to set up and save the controller settings, with absolutely NO LUCK!!! I have set up the pertinent controls in the Saitek X-55 Profiler, and then went and meticulously set up everything in the controller set-up for my X-55 and the A-10C. THOUGHT I had saved the controller settings. Quit and took a break. Came back, started the program again, opened the controller, and NOTHING has been saved. I even tried re-loading the configuration I had saved, and it does nothing. I am at wits end. Can anyone explain to me how to successfully SAVE the configuration for each A/C? Select A-10C, select All, program the axes, switches and buttons, get everything the way I want, and... I can't keep re-programming this stuff every time I open DCS. It's ridiculous. What's the secret to keeping all of my settings? HELP! Update: I had to disable the Saitek Profiler and clear out every controller completely, but it seems to have worked (fingers crossed). I don't know how to get the Profiler and the controller set-up to work together, so for now, no Profiler. I have been told that when I click on OK after setting up the controller, it auto-saves the settings. Is that correct? However, now I'm getting a message every time I start DCS that I have to re-enter my registration code for the A-10C. When I click on OK, it tells me I've already registered, and asks if I want to proceed without it. When I say "Yes" everything loads normally. And yes, I have run the repair.

Well, regarding the A-10, I fly the A2A P-51 Mustang, and the PMDG 737NGX and 777, so I'm way familiar with complex systems. I'm more interested in simulations than games, as far as the aircraft go. Someone turned me on to War Thunder, and I tried it out, but the aircraft are so arcade-style that it totally turned me off. I like the idea of actual aircraft systems in combat, something that I haven't experienced yet, and after watching some of Froogle's DCS videos on YouTube, it looks like the way to go. The only thing I don't like so far is that everything is keyboard. I have a lot of X-55 switches and buttons assigned to the various cockpit functions, but I wish I could point-and-click the mouse on the cockpit areas to make them work. So far, I've only flown off-line, although a few of my aircraft are dual-control (can be flown by two people over a network). I thought it would be fun to participate in some on-line gaming for a change. I have done some Call of Duty on-line gaming, so it might be the same. Anyway, thanks for the input. I'll probably go with the A-10, which is a modern favorite of mine.

Thanks, Art! I a little ADHD, if you know what I mean, and I tend to jump in with both feet and mess things up royally, and then spend hours, days, or sometimes weeks, fixing things. This time around, it was all compounded by the fact that I had already downloaded a much earlier version of DCS (probably over 2 years ago), and I didn't bother to blow it away and start from scratch. SO - the new version went over the old one, and the rest is history. Now that I've started from absolute scratch, I think things will flow smoothly. Next article of business - can you recommend any payware modules that won't break the bank? I was interested in the A-10 (aren't we all), but I still don't know all about what to buy, and what works with what. I want to get on-line ASAP and join in the fun, but then I don't want to be flying a P-51 when everyone else is flying the latest jets. Off we go, into the wild blue yonder...:pilotfly:

All seems to be well now. Once again, I completely uninstalled the program, including the Saved Games\DCS folder. Again cleaned the registry. Again deleted anything on the drive pertaining to DCS. Although I had installed DCS to my C drive (not in Program Files), this time I put it on my D drive. Fired up the game, went to Controls and deleted every entry for my Saitek rudder pedals and X-55 and CH controllers (the install seems to populate the controllers automatically with a bunch of duplicate entries, which I discovered this time around), and then meticulously entered the inputs I wanted. No duplicates, everything seems to be correct. Start the mission, and...everything works!!! Although I can't figure out why. with one notch of flaps I have to be doing over 300 kts, and use the entire runway, to get an unloaded aircraft off the ground, it seems to be flying right. Nav worked, waypoints worked...and the autopilot flew me right into a mountain!! Now I have to learn the rest of the controls and run the other training missions, and then I hope to be on-line shortly. Not bad for a wooly old vet, eh? Sometimes, I think I'm getting too old for this...but it's too much fun

Okay, guys, a few important questions: one, how do you un-install DCS World? I used the Uninstall menu choice, not the Windows one, and it said everything was uninstalled. Thnen I went and looked at my drive, and there was a DCS World folder with over 62 Gb of files. Everything was still there. I deleted everything on the drive I could find that pertained to DCS, rebooted my machine and ran a registry check with CCleaner Pro, and cleaned the registry. Re-booted again. Good so far? I then downloaded the suggested "stable" files (http://www.digitalcombatsimulator.co...wnloads/world/) and after about 2 hours was ready to start over with the set-up. When DCS loaded up, ALL of my previous settings were still there. Somehow, the install found my previous version and now the new one has the same settings. Not good. But I'll go with that, and see what happens. Load the SU-25 Mission to take off, navigate and land. Start the mission. Again, nothing is working. I open the Controls page, check things out, and close it, and finally, I can click on Right-Shift L and turn things on. Get the engines started, click on the "1" key to set the HUD for ENR mode. Well, it's in ENR mode, but I'm showing "0" for the first waypoint (should be "1"). Taxi out to the runway, one notch of flaps, try to take off. Find out that I have to get this thing up to 300 kts just to get it off the ground. Wheels up, flaps up...waypoint still "0". Click on Left Ctrl ' to go to the next waypoint - nothing changes. Click several times on both Left Ctrl ' and Left Shift ' with no results. I can do a screen shot if you'd like. Anyway, I'd really like to dump this whole thing because it's driving me nuts. I want to make it work, but I can't keep wiping and reloading this thing. Below is my system specs. I think I have enough machine to run this thing, but maybe not. I run FSX with tons of add-ons and complex aircraft and scenery, so I should be able to run this. Well, I am uninstalling and re-installing, per your suggestion. Rather have the stable version, anyway. The Russian was all cockpit labels, and all verbal comms. The tutorial mission "hints" in the upper right were in English. I was unaware that the "free" SU-25 was not a full version of the aircraft. The tutorials I have been following (10 of them) are by Robert Sogomonian and were posted in July of 2013. The A/C is way different than the default one, including a pilot's legs with kneeboards in the seat. And most of the lights and buttons are in English, not Cyrillic. I will do the re-install and try to find the right A/C to get going again. I'll post my results as soon as I get finished. I really want to make this work,

Noob here! Trying to get going with the default SU-25, and I have been watching the 10-part tutorial on YouTube, and trying to follow it. First of all, I have no idea how to station the aircraft in a bunker like the video (still reading the docs), so I picked the mission where you start the aircraft, take off and fly a route and land at another airport. First thing I noticed was that the cockpit in the video and my cockpit are very different. Although I chose NATO, Imperial and English in the set-up, my cockpit is still all Russian. The cockpit in the tutorial is in English. All labels are Cyrillic. What is the difference between these two cockpits? Secondly, the COMM menu (/) has different choices. I could find no choice to request taxi to the active. When I just taxied out to the same runway the tutorial was using, there was no runway numbers, either (26, in this case). Also, the radio instructions are in Russian, not English. ??? And lastly, when I first start up the flight, with the aircraft on the ramp, none of the controls work, starting with the mouse view control. Clicking Right Shift+L does not turn on the electrical power. I have to hit Esc, open up the Control menu, and click on any item, then close and go back to the cockpit before anything starts working. I do finally get the prompts in the upper right that instruct me on turning on the systems, starting the engines, taxiing out, etc. I'd like to start flying this SU-25 and getting used to it, but I'm having a hard time just getting it to work. Any help would be grateful. Videos, tutorials, docs, anything.

New website and forum - aimed at beginners
Florida replied to Johnny Dioxin's topic in Community News
I just joined up, and am really a noob's noob, although I am probably more of an expert when it comes to computers (I was a network engineer for 15 years). So your idea sounds very promising. But I am looking right now for the very basics in DCS World. I have a Saitek X-55 system and a CH throttle quadrant, and both are seen by DCS. I've figured out how to set the axes for the stick, rudder, and throttles. But I need to know more about setting up each switch, top-hat and slider on all of the devices for the pertinent cockpit functions. I see no visual when I try to set up a switch for, say, the landing gear, speed brakes, flaps, etc. Anyway, I'm getting off-track here. Is there any place I can go right now that would show me the basic set-up for my controllers, and maybe even files that I can download for the configuration of the default SU-25? YouTube? Other sites? I'm reading the SU-25 manual and flying the tutorials, but I need to get my controllers working.
