Far as I knew, the only two were the trainer and the D model. Don't think the trainer would be up there. Is there another model? I tried to set the freqs for the mission on SRS before I clicked on FLY, and as soon as I did, the freqs were all deleted. Add: Okay! Found the radio functions. Only one radio in the Mustang, and the buttons are preset by the mission. At last! And it seems that joining the server this morning, the controls worked, too. I think I've got a handle on this!

I've been playing on the DCS World without servers for a long time and didn't want to make a complete idiot out of myself until I knew somewhat how to fly everything without witnesses. But, alas, I finally ventured into the server territory to try it out. I have tried two different servers now, and for some strange reason, the controls I have painstakingly bound to my X-56 disappear when I get into my P-51 on-line. There is a strange "banging" which I think is my control surfaces going crazy, and nothing else works. Moving the throttle on my X-56 moves the stick, and it just goes south from there. I go offline, and all of my controls work fine. WTF? And SRS isn't working, either. I've got the latest version, and the IP (or other) address is correct for the server I'm on. But as soon as I get into my plane, the freqs disappear, and nothing works. Any ideas out there?

Hey, Tin Man, Florida here! Have only gone online a few times with a Tomcat group for practice, but I'd love to get involved with the WWII stuff and my P-51. I've bookmarked the servers you mentioned and I'd love to give it a try again. I'm usually on same time as you. I'm a retiree,so... Either server will do? I DO have the Normandy map and the WWII Assets pack. Let me check out the Discord and other items and I hope I can join you soon. Cheers!

I noticed that there were mods done to this campaign on 3/4. Do I have to re-download it now or will it update itself?

What "first post?" -
Okay, I'll bite - how do you know? I have 2 MFDs plugged in and working, and since I got my new X-56, I'm trying to re-map things. I also have an OrbWeaver and a CH Throttle Quadrant attached, and I started saving each profile again. Saved the joystick. Saved the throttle. Saved the OrbWeaver. Saved the quadrant. TRIED to save the MFDs! They will not save. They were saved in the F-14 profiles as F16 MFD 1 and F16 MFD 2. I can't save them in the A-10C joystick profiles, no matter what I call them. They were installed one time and haven't been moved, though they were unplugged from (and returned to) the same ports, which also happen to be a powered USB 3.0 hub. They work fine in the A-10...I just can't save the profile.

I definitely want to save every aircraft in their own folder with all data. But when I went to save my A-10C files, it showed me all of my FA-18 files that I had thought I'd saved to its own folder. Should this be automatic depending on what aircraft I've loaded? My new HOTAS won't be here until the end of the month, so I'll be held up til then. But I'll definitely get back to you when I start setting up and saving it.
-
Up to now, I never really worried about saving what I had programmed...until my X-55 went south. In the process of trying to save what I had set up, I got very confused. Why? Because first, I realized that I had to save each and every column separately. I had thought that if I saved the file, it was everything, the whole setup. Nope! SO - I went and highlighted the first column, and clicked on "Save." The path that appeared made absolutely NO sense. But I dutifully entered "F18_stick" and saved it. I have no idea where it went, and trying to LOAD it, it was gone. I tried several other entries - Throttles, Orbweaver, Rudder Pedals...they might have been saved, but I have no idea where. So my question now is: how do I save each column to a folder that I want (say, A10C or FA18), and then be able to load them when needed? Where should these files be kept? I just bought a new X-56 HOTAS, and once it's installed, I want to be able to save, and load every entry without doing a search of my entire 1 Tb hard drive.
-
Well, that's not too bad, about $480USD. With shipping across the pond, probably ~$500. Oh, not really! When I went to buy it, the price changed to L399, and...it's out of stock!

Thrustmaster MFD Cougar Pack - LCD Home Edition
Florida replied to Speedbird696's topic in Thrustmaster
I'm getting ready to buy a Cougar MFD pack and definitely want to light them up with displays. I looked at these displays you referenced, and they're amazingly cheap. So let me ask you a question: When hooking these up, I need a 12VDC supply - done! I have a video card with a HDMI and DV outputs - my 36" monitor is on the DV port. I'm assuming I need a total of 3 video ports to run the monitor and both displays. Is that correct? I can buy a cheap video card to do that. Has anyone up here made up an instruction "manual" or video on how to do this? -
If you go down the page on this one, you'll find this: Important information Legal Disclaimer Selling HOTAS because I am moving. No returns. _________________________________________________________________ Anyone can be a reseller on Amazon. You just create an account. I do not want a used Warthog. The one on Amazon "certified" New is way out of my price range - just a little while back, these things were going for $450 everywhere. Now they're scarce, so the gouging comes out. See the one on Amazon for $454 + $225 for shipping? Get real! I'll just wait...maybe Thrustmaster will start a new production run soon and the price will level out again. :music_whistling:

The only affordable one,B&H, is out of stock, as is Dell. The e-Bay items are both used. IOW, there are NO NEW Warthogs available right now. I found one in Germany, and they couldn't take my credit cards. I guess getting one is not in the cards right now. A fistful of dollars, and no place to spend them.

I've been waiting for several years to get enough money to finally get a Warthog HOTAS, mainly since I really like to fly the A-10C! I got a nice tax refund this year, so off I went to buy my dream. My first purchase, which was advertised on Amazon as "New" for $385 proved to be a used item that Amazon conveniently covered up at the bottom of their data page. I cancelled. The I went back to Amazon and found a truly "New" Warthog for $454! Okay, a bit more, but it IS new. Well, Amazon doesn't sell this - it's all resellers, so I order and get to the Checkout page. After adding $225 for shipping and $40 for tax, the price jumped to over $700. No joy! I started looking around the Web, and Warthog HOTAS is a very rare item. Hardly any retailers even sell them anymore, and if you DO find one for sale, it's going to be used, refurbished, or $800 to $1300. Which leads me to believe that Thrustmaster probably isn't even making them anymore.

A-10C Radio Freq Settings in VA Solution: I have been running VA for awhile, and had updated it recently. Previously, it had been working fine, but now it didn't seem to respond to Bailey's radio commands. After consulting with Bailey, I looked into the Profile Options screen, where I found that my "Send commands to this target" choice had defaulted to "Active Window." Why it had worked previously I can't say, but I switched it to focus on the DCS screen only, and now everything is working fine. I would recommend that this choice always be set to focus on the DCS screen. Click on the Edit Profile box. Then click on the Options box next to the profile name. Then, under the Profile General tab, go to "Send commands to this target:", and click the radio button next to the pull-down menu, and choose "Digital Combat Simulator". I'd post a screen shot, but have nowhere online to put the file, and this site doesn't allow uploads. -

A-10C Radio Freq Settings in VA Hi! Bailey - I'm the guy who posted to you on YouTube about the A-10C profile. Checked in on Discord but you weren't on. Here's the setup: Read the instructions, did the key bindings for the radios (didn't think the non-radio bindings were pertinent - was I wrong?), and launched VA and DCS. I started up the HOTAS tutorial so I'd be flying and on A/P, with radios already on. Went to each radio and made sure the freqs were 251.000, 124.000 and 30.00, as noted in your doc. Did the A 10 radio reset call, and got the chirp, so I figured the call took. I then said set frequency 25500. The command seemed to work, and I watched VA show me the command HundUp four times, assuming that it moved the hundreds wheel from 1 to 5. The dial on the radio never moved. I then said, set frequency 12800. The command seemed to word, I saw VA show the "HundUp" command 4 more times (from 124.000 to 128.000). The radio dial did not change the freq. So next I actually keyed in the key binding for each dial on each radio, like LCtrl-RAlt-I, and watched the radio dials actually move with each press. So I know the bindings are good - I can manually enter each one and watch the radio dials move. So why would the commands seem to work, knowing the bindings are correct, and VA shows them working, but the dials don't move? Is there a binding somewhere besides the selector dial bindings? That's where I am right now. I'm going back and trying again to see if maybe I was just having a bad night! I will await your response. -
Thanks, Buzz! Some of the gates are at almost right angles to the previous one, and I was missing that. I ended up flying the entire course, which ends right over a runway, so I turned around and landed. Finding out that the F-18 is a lot more forgiving than the F-14!

Watching YouTube tutorials on carrier landings, and they talk about caging and uncaging the HUD. I can't find anything about that particular wording, but in Chuck's F/A18 guide, this is mentioned: The HMD (Helmet-Mounted Display) can be used by turning the HMD Brightness Control Switch to BRT. Is this what caging is, turning on and off the helmet mounted display?
-
Just got my F/A18, and as I always do, I fired it up and started working on the training series. Loaded up the first tutorial, which is a familiarization with the A/C. Starts in-flight, and you have to fly through gates. Okay! So I guess I'm kinda blind because after the first few (3 or 4), I can't find the next one. Either there is a break in the progression, or I just fly by one. From then on, I'm lost. And the tutorial won't end until you complete the course. With the A-10C, someone had flown all of the training tutorials and posted them on YouTube. Doesn't seem like anyone has done that yet with the Hornet. Or have they? I'd love to know the course I have to fly before I fly it, so I can figure out why I'm missing one or more of the gates. Has anyone flown these tutorials? Never mind! Found Gumbo's Flying Circus on YouTube. And, yep! I'm blind!

Air refueling, axis curvature and joystick model
Florida replied to Sylosis's topic in General Tutorials
I have the X-55 stick, so no extensions. The most important part was discovering the looseness in both axes. When I jiggled the stick - no movement, just touching it - there was some movement. So I adjusted that out with a very small dead zone (in the Saitek app). Once that was gone, I started playing with the curves. I'm just now starting to learn how they'e working. I will report back when I play with different settings! Thanks! -
Air refueling, axis curvature and joystick model
Florida replied to Sylosis's topic in General Tutorials
Thanks a lot, Yurgon! I've been so frustrated that I was about to give up. But I love this online flying-with-others thing, and I want to get good at it, enough to do AA refueling and carrier landings with some confidence. Gonna work on the curves, and see if I can get the throttle worked out. Been watching mission setups for refueling practice, and one of the F-14 missions is a take-off with a tanker rendezvous. So...back to practice! I needed a little pep talk and you provided it. Not gonna give up! Let me see if I can record some of it and upload it! -
Air refueling, axis curvature and joystick model
Florida replied to Sylosis's topic in General Tutorials
Axis curves - Saitek X-55 HOTAS For the longest time, I've flown solo, mostly FSX, but now DCS. I believe in learning the aircraft inside and out, and end up doing as many of the built-in tutorials as I can. First A/C I got on DCS was the A-10C, which was fairly forgiving, but since getting the F-14, I'm going nuts. I didn't know how bad it was until I finally went for it and joined an online group. Gawd! Now I'm flying with others, and my first real problem pops up - I'm all over the sky. Embarrassing, to say the least! I've got the X-55 HOTAS, and never really dug into the axis curve tuning, so everything was straight-line. No curves, no dead zones. First several attempts at formation flying was sick! So bad that I backed off and went back to solo to try and improve without making an idiot of myself. Now I'm picking up the F-18, and the pit is a little easier on the eyes (and I don't have to listen to Jester), but I'm now determined to get this right finally. SO - I did some jiggling of the joystick, and found some looseness, so I did manage to remove the jiggles with dead zones. There is absolutely NO movement when the stick wiggles - I have to give some real input. Now I need to find out how these curves work, because the A/C is just way too responsive. No way I'm doing formation flying. I'm reading anywhere from 25-30 on the pitch and yaw axes, no idea about rudder. Then there's the throttles. Once again, no way I'm doing any formation flying when the throttles are all over the place. I've been watching tutorials about air-to-air refueling, and it looks impossible the way I've been flying! With the F-14, I try to slow down to approach at around 250, and need the air brake because even notching it down to idle doesn't seem to work. Then I get down to around 200, and next thing I know I'm in the weeds at 110 knots. What is the frikkin' trick? Jet engines don't instantly throttle up or down, so...? Anywho...I want to get back online and enjoy flying with company, but not until I can control these things. Any help in setting up my X-55 would be greatly appreciated, from someone who has one. I'm not ready to go back to my FSX King Air and the big iron. Yet! TIA, -
Oaky, guys! I got it! I was under the impression I had to maintain some magical number, but following the lead just makes sense. My situation here is that I've never really flown on a server with other guys, so I have to learn. In all my years of simming, this is the first time I've had to interact with others in real time. And it ain't as easy as it looks! But I'm learning. I'm learning. All of your advice is well-taken and appreciated. I will do better!

Okay, I'm learning how to fly in formation, and maintaining the right airspeed is critical. The F-14B has a dial with a 200-knot line, and Mach readouts above that. When I'm flying and my lead asks me to keep it at 350 knots, I have no idea where that is on the Mach dial. Especially since the Mach readout changes with altitude. SO - whenI'm supposed to drop my airspeed to 225-250 kts. coming into the landing loop, I'm guessing approx. where that is on the dial, but I can guess that a lot closer than the 350 kts. speed. What do the "pros" do in these cases? Above 200 kts. there is only the Mach readout!
