Well someone told me in another thread (i thought this one but was mistaken) that disabling the windows page file would help the situation but I just tried it and it didn't make any difference so I wouldn't be too concerned. :/ At this moment I am out of ideas.. really need a dev or tester to come in here and explain what is going on. To be honest I feel like if you were able to set the amount of trees loaded in a particular area somehow then that may help the situation. I think a lot of the objects in the scene are trees in the distance but my tree distance is set to minimum and so is my view distance.

I did add my details to my signature after you said that.. but you could have been less rude in the way you conveyed the suggestion IMO... maybe u didn't mean it to sound sarcastic thats just how it read to me.

It came with the U1-H1 Huey that I bought this weekend. I'm just using that as it is the first mission I tried in VR and saw how bad that area was.

Good suggestions but I already have speedstep turned off for my overclock and I have the mode set to single display for everything. Now I am not sure the other settings you are referring to in the Nvidia control panel about max performance unless it is the power management thing and I do have that on prefer maximum performance. I think thats what you meant. If so then I already have all those things setup. I also recently tried the "no tree shadow" mod and if it helped the fps it was only a little. I then turned off shadows completely and installed the starway textures mod. The starway thing didn't seem to hurt the fps so I left it for now without shadows. Turning shadows off helped a little on FPS but still doesn't help to utilize my hardware correctly. I am going to try the page file thing now as I just sat back down at the PC since yesterday but I did also notice yesterday that when I looked at that problem area, it has over 2000 objects being displayed and over 200,000 triangles. This is almost definitely the cause of the FPS drop, however, it doesn't explain why when looking at those areas it doesn't utilize my hardware to handle it. If it doesn't kick the gpu into high gear doing so then of course it will cause the fps to drop like crazy. I mean, it even makes the gpu usage drop looking at it which is the opposite of what it should do. More testing to do now :)

Wow thats great info and makes a lot of sense. Its these behind the scenes things that seem be pulling tricks on us. I will put this on my list to do first thing tomorrow when I continue testing. I'll let you know if anything happens. I do notice that DCS is only using about 4-5gb of my 24gb of RAM so this could help a lot. Thanks so much :D :pilotfly:

I agree.. but what worries me is this stuff seems to have been going on for a while and its like either the devs dont know about it or aren't paying enough attention to it in terms of its important to VR performance. Thats why I posted this.. This game should not bring a good system to its knees like this. Considering 2.0 has the same problem and I just dropped $50 for NTTR, I really want to see them do something about this. No sense in continuing to update the game and ignoring this type of problem. To any devs reading.. I'm not trying to be an ahole.. I understand how hard it is.. I just want to know what I can do "if anything" to combat this, what you guys are doing, and why its happening.

I posted a new thread with videos of what i was talking about here. I decided to post it in a new thread as I just discovered this after starting this one and it applies not only to VR (although more importantly to it.) http://forums.eagle.ru/showthread.php?t=169738

Ok guys, I decided to make this new post because I am seeing a lot of people with this same issue and people are giving suggestions such as "this is how the game is meant to be" or "turn down your draw distance" etc. My problem, like many others, is that of low CPU and GPU usage and yet, looking at certain areas and towns cause huge FPS drops. I can assure everyone that this is not a matter of having too high of settings (as you will see at the end of the videos) nor is it a matter of CPU of GPU overheating (I have check this even though it isn't showing on the overlay.) I have no CPU throttling, power management is off, CPU is overclocked, etc etc. This also does not seem to be an issue of bottlenecking as the CPU usage only rarely spikes up to 97% and usually is around 60%. So here is the proof of this weird occurrence. Either some of us have something wrong or there is a major issue with the game and how it performs. As I will mention in the notes below, this may be ok in 2D but is detrimental in VR and unusable. Both videos were done in 2D mode instead of VR, but the readings are about the same. ---------------------- Video 1: (LOW SETTINGS) This video shows the harbor tour using the U1-H1 Huey in DCS World 1.5.3. You can clearly see in this example of low settings, that I have usable framerates looking forward at the water and to the right side, GPU and CPU usage is also higher looking these directions along with the higher FPS. But the moment I turn back towards the town, not only does the FPS plummet but so does the CPU and GPU usage. The GPU usage (first percentage not 2nd one,) is anywhere between 20-40% and goes OUT of boost clock when looking at the town. These framerates, if just playing in 2D, probably wouldn't be so bad but they equate to 45fps looking forward and 18 FPS looking at the town in VR which is absolutely unusable. Something is very wrong here.. I have been told it is just how the game has always been but that's hard to accept and this is pretty poor performance to be honest. I have the latest drivers, etc etc. Is there some magic setting somewhere that will fix this and make it use more of my GPU so I can get a stable fps? ------------------------ Video 2: (HIGH SETTINGS) Same as first video only on HIGH settings with visibility turned to ultra. The usage of the CPU and GPU seems to be about the same even with these higher settings, yet the FPS is overall lower. These FPS are more representative of what the first low settings would give me in VR. ---------------------------------------------- This makes no sense at all to me and I have noticed the same sort of behavior in 2.0 when sitting in the Huey or a10c in Vegas (30 fps in VR.) I find it hard to accept this as normal behavior nor a problem with my hardware. I realize I have an older CPU but when the CPU isn't maxed out, the GPU should be a hell of a lot higher than 40%. Notice the lower memory usage as well. I especially would like to hear from devs on this. Thanks.

I don't want to hijack this thread even though I have the same problem I think as Jacks, so I will be posting a new one with videos demonstrating the problem and showing MSI afterburner numbers.
-
I haven't tried this but when reading about it, most people say its bad to disable it. My windows 10 boots up within 30-40secs already but its a pretty new install and I use the fast boot option. I will try it though just to see. I assume you mean disabling the page file.

I figured I would weigh in on this as I posted a similar situation with VR. I discovered the same problem as Jack.. I ran MSI afterburner and can see that my CPU (none of the cores) are running at 95-99% and my GPU is running at around 40-50%, yet I am getting low fps in VR in certain areas. Particularly, the harbor tour with the Huey, I can look to the right where there isn't much going on and have 90fps in VR, forward I get 45 which is still fine.. but the moment I turn my head to the left and look back towards the town I end up with 18 fps in VR. When doing this, the CPU cores and GPU is not maxed out at all. I expect to see my GPU at atleast 90% in games if the CPU is not bottlenecking but it seems like there is a major problem with the way this is running. It is not only on 1.5.3 but also in 2.0 for me. I just bought NTTR this weekend and when I try to do a Vegas tour I am at 30fps just sitting at the airport in the Huey again in VR. These problems don't hurt the 2D version as much but are devastating in VR and make it unusable. BTW, my settings are pretty low as well. Low terrain, flat shadows on terrain and cockpit, 4x msaa, etc. But the thing is no matter how low I set the settings, it still is not giving a usable framerate in VR in these areas. I also have my draw distance set to low. How do you turn off tree shadows as some have mentioned I would like to try that.

Has nobody experienced this in VR? Upon further tests I can move my head slowly and see the highlight boxes zoom past my vision floating in the air. I am quite certain the reason for this is that the highlight boxes for these tutorials are tracked in 2D but not placed in 3D space. If they were in 3D space they would show up where they are supposed to but in 2D, they just can't figure out the head tracking data. Is this a known bug that is being fixed????
-
But why would the CPU/GPU activity not spike when you look at a populated city like Vegas vs looking away from it at a desert. In that case, the FPS changes drastically and the CPU/GPU never actually kick in at all it seems. The more I see how this sim works the more I can't understand why they haven't optimized or fixed these things already. I understand them resisting changing the engine to work with more than 2 cores.. fine. But when the sim isn't even utilizing all of one core and half of the gpu.

Responding to a thread with a comment like that when you clearly didn't read the first post is a waste of time. If you had of read the OP, you would have seen my entire rig details.

2.0 is a beta and does the same thing but I guess u mean 1.5.4 beta. It should be releasing soon so I was waiting for that. And it's true that the 970 is on the lower end for VR.. But what difference does that make when neither the cpu or gpu is being used past 50-60%?
-
I7 950 oc to 4ghz and gtx 970 FTW. Neither running at more than about 50%. it made more sense when I thought the one cpu core was running at 95-99% which it was in 2d, but this makes no sense to me. When it comes to being stuck at 45 fps in VR, I know I'm not alone but when it comes to being under 30 fps in cities with this lack of gpu and cpu usage, I feel sort of alone right now.
-
Quick question guys, I found an option in my Nvidia Control Panel that says "DSR - FACTORS" This seems to be the same thing as what you guys are talking about here. It has settings in increments of .5 all the way to 4.0 and calls it super resolution or something. Is this the same thing or does this not work or apply to SteamVR or DCS?
-
Ok so I just found out something interesting! Before when running in 2d, I tested DCS 1.5 using MSI afterburner and did notice that one of my cores of my CPU was running high like 95% which is what everyone was saying and was the reason the gpu wasn't running full. What I had never tested was MSI afterburner while in VR. So I did so.. both on 1.5 and 2.0. WEIRD thing is that I loaded up problem areas on both versions (2.0 was vegas tour in the Huey and 1.5 was the Harbor tour in the Huey) Guess what.. my CPU never got about around 65% while in VR and my GPU usage was anywhere from 40% to 60%. This makes NO SENSE to me.. BTW these problem areas are 30 fps or LESS in VR. The Vegas Tour pretty much is 30 all the time and the Harbor tour is 18 fps when looking at the main city that is next to the harbor.. everywhere else is 45 or 90. All this time I was thinking the fact that it only uses one main core of the CPU maxed out was why this stuff was happening and why the GPU wasn't running full speed but now I have no idea why I am only running half my GPU power if it isn't bottlenecking. In both of these tests I had the Nvidia Control Panel set to "let application decide" so DCS should be in full control. I'm baffled and irritated that I can't get atleast 45 fps in these towns, even on low settings.

Hey guys just a heads up... I bought NTTR this weekend and I tried 2.0 in VR finally. I have tried the vegas tour and what I am finding is that no matter how low my settings are, I am getting 30fps just sitting in the huey before even taking off. The big city is slamming my fps bad in 2.0. I have messed with so many settings but nothing seems to really help it. It just seems those big cities are what is doing it for me and considering I just paid $49.99 for Vegas... I have to say i am pretty down in the dumps about it. I wish there was some way to get atleast a solid 45fps in reprojections with this. As it stands now, it seems 1.5 is working better than 2.0.

Hey guys I hope this is the correct place to post something about 1.5.3 but I just bought the A10C and U1-H1. Since 1.5.3 seems to be the only place I could do the tutorials (not in 2.0) I decided to do the startup tutorial on both aircrafts in VR using my HTC Vive. Problem is that there are no highlights showing up when the instructor tells you what click on in the cockpit. In 2D, it shows circles around the switches to help guide you but in VR I see nothing for that on either aircraft. Is there a fix to that or is this issue known? Thx
-
Nevermind... I am not sure if this is what fixed my issue but it seems to be working now after restarting DCS world again. However, not the entire cockpit is English. There are still reminants of russian on a few panels. I'd say 90% is english but is this normal or is there a way to fix it?? Thanks again.
-
Thanks for this mod but I can't get it to work. I am running 1.5.3, never installed any mod before this. I followed your instructions exactly.. I skipped the part about deleting previous mods obviously. All I did was copy your mods folder from the zip, into the DCS World folder as instructed. This created an english directory in the correct place and in DCS World I selected English from the special option tab on the su25t and hit ok. When I start up in the SU25t I still see a cockpit full of russian everywhere. Not sure what I did wrong here if you could help.

OK cool. I think I am going just keep regular 1.5 installed and wait for them to officially release the 1.5.4 patch for it. In addition to that I am going to install 2.0 and buy the NTTR map thats on sale this weekend. I have it in my head based on what a lot of people are saying that 2.0 will be better in VR.
