Didn't you say in another post that you are running 2.5 SS with a 1070 and HTC Vive? So you are saying you are running SS but are in reprojection all the time because of it?

Whats this Edge system I keep hearing about and what version is it being released in? I am confused by the 2 betas happening at the same time.. people say 2.0 is better but why are they doing 1.5.4 which is supposed to have better VR and 2.0 also?
-
I'll be honest, when I heard Nvidia talking about multiprojection and how it increases framerate cause of a new way of rendering VR images I thought that applied to anything that you run in VR using the 1070 or 1080, not that the game had to support it. Or MAYBE that DX12 had to be supported in the game.. It's disappointing that nothing is currently supporting multiprojection as I was really hoping to see some major increases in FPS stability (not necessarily with DCS) in my VR games. I personally could care less about SLI as I cannot afford to drop a crap load of money on 2 GPUs after spending $800 on VR (which doesn't support it as I understand currently) and upgrading pretty much my whole PC except for the MB and CPU which will need to be done pretty soon anyway and will be another $500 on top of everything else. Anyway, I just feel like before worrying about DCS supporting this other stuff, it has to stop bottlenecking pretty much every CPU and having these high end cards run a 70% or less. What good is any of this stuff when the GPU isn't even breaking a sweat? Thats just my 2 cents. :D

Yep.. I see the a10C is at $27.99 there but there is no NTTR map on steam. I will wait for the weekend and see what ED offers if anything since the steam sale goes until July 4th. :D

Sorry.. I have been jumping around threads talking about the same sort of stuff so probably am confused now :pilotfly:

Awesome to hear and thanks for the response! Are you running high medium or low type of settings? Don't want to bother you but I would love to know what settings you are using to I can sort of see if thats what I have already. One thing I was curious about were these Starway textures I keep hearing about. Are they helpful or hurtful to the fps or do you know? I figured they would be bad cause they are higher resolution but maybe they are better optimized.. someone suggested using them with VR but I dont think he has VR so Im not sure of how it would affect the fps. :)

What exactly does flat shadows do in relation to the cockpit? When I turn it on I don't notice any real shadows anymore which kind of sucks but from my tests, shadows seems to be almost the only thing that really slams the FPS in a bad way. I haven't noticed much difference with the AA settings or HDR on or off. Are you doing that pixel density trick with the vive we were talking about on the other thread? I was wondering if you figured out that it does not hurt the fps. I was sort of scared to try it without getting the rest of the settings figured out first but how much of a difference do you notice at 1.5?
-
Yeah thats def the way it seems.. despite the people who claim they get "steady 90 fps all the time" with the Vive. No offense to them but I can't believe that based on the evidence I have seen about how the game works and what everybody else says. :) Right now I am just crossing my fingers that something will be better in one of the new versions. I think 1.5.4 drops this friday if no issues.
-
It would be nice to see if the pixel density hits your FPS cause as much as I want to try getting a clearer image.. I can't afford any hits to it I dont think. What you said is interesting about going into reprojection.. because for instance.. If I start out in the su25t free flight mode, that spot it puts you over with all the towns, that puts me in reprojection. I wonder if that is a spot you are having it also. If I climb above the clouds I am at 90 for the most part... however when I come in for a landing my fps starts to suffer again.. the airport seems to just put me in reprojection. Is this the way yours is? I am running 1.5.3 so haven't tried the possible better 1.5.4 or 2.0 versions. I also am curious if you were to run something like msi afterburner to monitor your cpu/gpu usage in VR, if you are even using more than 70% of your GPU and if your main CPU core is at 95-99% like many of us. With all due respect, most of the system stats you mentioned IMO doesn't matter much at all when it comes to this sim from what I have seen. All that ram is not even being touched unless you have something set differently than me. I have 24gb and am only seeing 4 I think being used during the sim (i am on 64 bit windows 10 also.) Granted, your 6700k has better single core performance than my i7-950 overclocked to 4ghz but I feel like most of the problem with dropping into reprojection just comes from the sim forcing every cpu to bottleneck our highend GPUs. I am going to upgrade to the 1070 as soon as available but I heard even people with 1080s aren't seeing much of an improvement simply cause the game is forcing the cpu to 99% too much. I also have a test I want to run tomorrow, someone suggested messing with the Nvidia control panel to improve performance (setting it to performance instead of quality or something.) We'll see. :)

I've had mirrors turned off this whole time. What VR headset are you using and what settings for graphics? No offense but I'm not sure how u can magically get a steady 90fps in VR when nobody else can. Regardless of system specs, I would like to know your secret. Also what version of dcs?

Good info everyone thanks. I'll look forward to this weekend and any sales.. I also subbed to that thread.

Is this an option only available for the Rift? (I have a VIVE) Sounds cool

So guys... it seems I missed out on a bundle sale this weekend to get NTTR, A10C, and one of the A10C campaigns. Can someone tell me what the price would have been for all that? It says 40% off but not sure if it is 40% off of all of that stuff together normal price or some other bundle price. I am upset cause I just figured I would buy the NTTR and A10C now but missed the sale by a few hours!! :/

I was messing with 1.5 last night in VR (caucasus) and it seems if I am in an area with a lot of towns below me, its pretty much 45fps if I'm lucky. High altitude though or over an area with no towns it seems I can get 90fps. After playing with a bunch of settings it seems not much of it really affects the fps that I can tell besides shadows. I turned on flat shadows on both cockpit and terrain. For the terrain I think its fine but I don't notice shadows at all in my cockpit with flat turned on. I think I am going to bite the bullet and spring for NTTR while it is on sale and try 2.0. A lot of this (aside from the obvious fact that DCS is not utilizing CPU cores) could be that the caucasus map is just very poorly optimized also. I noticed if I fly over a town very low and rotate my plane 45 degrees looking straight down in VR, the FPS goes to 90 because it is only focusing on that immediate area. But when you are looking at multiple towns on the map at a distance it is dropping to 45.

Is this in regards to the cockpit resolution in 1.5 that is 256 by default or is this an option in one of the betas? I would assume that any option that talks about that would maybe be more related to texture resolution (measured in pixels) than anything else. Maybe instead of for example, a cockpit texture being 256x256 it is 1024x1024 which results in a sharper texture (because the actual texture has more pixels) but doesnt really equal that you see more pixels. This is all assumption though since I don't exactly know what you are referring to :)

2016 Hardware Benchmark - DCS World 1.5.x
Bluelight replied to tiborrr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Well thats comforting to hear that I am not alone. I am also glad to hear that 2.0 is running better than 1.5. I really want to try 2.0 but since you have to buy NTTR to do it, I was hesitant. I am looking to buy a module or two in the next week or so.. maybe I will consider NTTR now so that I can run 2.0 and get some better VR. :) -
Thanks guys, its a lot of work but I am in the process of finishing up the SU25T profile. I decided to do my own since I want it a certain way.. now I just have to try not to forget what I mapped where in the middle of gameplay lol.

2016 Hardware Benchmark - DCS World 1.5.x
Bluelight replied to tiborrr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
I understand but every other game that uses 4 cores doesn't cause windows any issues. It really wouldn't hurt anything to utilize 4 cores and would only help but I guess its too much trouble for them to change it that much maybe. They have to do SOMETHING though because the VR needs to have a more stable FPS and when people are claiming they have GTX 1080s (which have simultaneous multi projection to help FPS a lot) and still are having lower than 90 fps... something is very wrong. -
Ok good idea, I'll try it without HT next time I am gonna try VR. If 1.5.4 is the version that is supposed to have better optimized VR, let me know what kind of results you get compared to regular 1.5 (once you get the other bugs squared away I mean.) I would like to try it if it is better.

2016 Hardware Benchmark - DCS World 1.5.x
Bluelight replied to tiborrr's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Then what is the meaning of this statement by the OP on page 1: ??? 1. If budget allows - get a fast (overclockable) quad-core CPU! Yes, DCS scales great up to 4 cores! I understand that DCS World is running only on 2 cores (essentially just 1 not including sound) but I was asking cause this statement suggests that 4 cores would make a difference which doesn't seem to be true. Also, this needs to change because I don't see how you can have a stable VR experience otherwise. It seems a lot of the problems with DCS World 1.5 in VR are related to the lack of CPU utilization. This game requires a core 2 duo as minimum but VR requires much more. Thats my only issue right now is VR performance and I heard something is supposed to be in the works to fix that. -
I should probably apologize partially to Gundark.. when I said DCS 1.5 is not bottlenecking my CPU.. I was right and wrong. Originally when looking, my CPU usage was about 17% max. Upon looking closer, it seems it is 17% of 8 threads / 4 cores. DCS World is using one core (the one that deals with graphics) at about 95% quite a bit. This is not an issue with my CPU as I tested many other games just now that utilize 4 cores and there is no bottleneck at all. This is engine bottleneck I guess you would call it... poorly optimized to take advantage of the CPU. I guarantee most processors would see the same type of behavior. This is what I think (and hope) they are addressing. Even if it doesn't use hyperthreading thats fine.. 4 cores would run much better. Another thread claims that it can use 4 cores but I haven't figured that out yet.

Oh I also noticed it is only using about 4 gb of my 24gb of ram so not sure if there is a way to allow it to use more. -

Could someone explain to me how you actually can get this game to utilize 4 cpu cores? I am running an overclocked I7 and it is only using 2 cores.. and seems to be using mainly one (i think the other is for sound.) At the beginning of this thread it says that DCS 1.5 scales great to 4 cores.. I would love to know how to make it use all my cores so it isn't maxing out 1 core. -
This is great news and exactly what I was looking for. If they are doing major VR improvements in a patch that should be great. Any idea when this will drop or can I do a beta for it now?
