Goa, thanks for this. Helpful stuff. The idea that an R390 and an AMD FX are not strong enough to run DCS strikes me as implausible, but I do plan on expanding my ram to 32 gig.

Guys, in terms of graphical settings, which are the most performance-crippling? My rig is a Windows 10, 64 bit, Radeon R390 gpu, AMD FX Black Edition cpu, 16 gig ram. I keep my water set at low, shadows flat, no mirrors or heat blur, anistropic at 2x, visibility medium, no birds or civ traffic, etc. Should I be using vsync or not? Is there anything else I can do to eliminate hiccups?

I've had multiple DCS modules for years, recently upgraded to DCS World 2.5.3 and downloaded the F-18 successfully. Great stuff. Yesterday I purchased the Persian Gulf map. Since then I've made four attempts to DL the map through the DCS module manager, twice by torrent, twice by HTTP. Each time it freezes up midway through the DL and forces me to hard restart the computer. Any ideas about what might be the issue? TIA. Specs: Windows 10, 64 bit, AMD FX Black edition CPU, Radeon R390 GPU, 16 gig RAM. IMPORTANT: Problem apparently solved. On a fifth attempt, success. Servers must have been crowded.

Guys, thanks and apologies. I can't believe I scanned the editor controls and missed the naval icon. But that's the ugly truth. Happy new year anyway. ;)

Sorry in advance if this is a thoroughly dumb question, but I've surfed a bit and not found an answer. I'm running DCS 2.5.3 with multiple modules (via the module manager), including Combined Arms. But nowhere can I find the naval assets I see in various YouTube videos. I assume DCS World 2.5 is what I'm already running. Do I need to DL and install it separately? How do I access the naval items? Again, sorry if I'm having a brain stall.

OK, wanted to close out my concern. The one thing I had not done was turn off mirrors. Doing that, along with the other actions I mentioned above seems to have helped a lot. Some occasional hiccupping remains, but at least the sim is playable now.

None of this worked. I turned my settings down to low; did the 512 every frame thing; and turned on Vysnc. Made no difference at all. DCS is simply unplayable. Really, this is inexcusable given the prices involved. Any other suggestions are very welcome.

I'll try these ideas and report back.

I'm running Windows 10 with an AMD R390 grafix card and an AMD FX processor (8 core) 4 GHz Black Edition, on a Sabertooth 990 R2 motherboard. All my drivers are up to date. I've also been buying and attempting to use DCS products for more than a decade. I've always had a stuttering problem, no matter what my rig, with DCS software. But with the latest 2.5 DCS World, the various modules are literally unusable -- constant freezing and stuttering. I've now sunk several hundred dollars into DCS products, and I'm thoroughly fed up with performance that can only be described as consistently crappy. My rig is more than powerful enough to handle DCS software. Is there some magic trick to make DCS programs work smoothly?? I really want to like what DCS offers, but I can't keep buying stuff that simply irritates me with its constant problems.

I have the TM Warthog joystick, but my Warthog throttle is now definitively dead and past warranty. As a temporary measure, I'd like to use my mouse wheel for throttle control. It's fairly easy in Il2 BoS, but no joy so far in my DCS titles -- I'm currently struggling with the FW-190. Does anyone know how to do or program the mouse wheel for such a purpose? Any help or advice where to look would be much appreciated.

I just built a new PC. I'd like to uninstall my old Black Shark and FC2 from my XP machine and put them on my new Win 7. I'm assuming I can do this, since I paid for both, correct? Any legal issues or technical problems involved?

Simple question Will it run on my machine? XP, AMD 64 X2 4600, 3 GB RAM, 2.4 gighz

We don't celebrate "the holidays" . . . but we do celebrate Christmas! Have a great Christmas season BrumTX.

I've been complaining about a chronic stuttering/hiccuping problem with Black Shark in various forums like this one for the past year -- first with the Russian version I DL'd immediately, and then with the US DVD version I later purchased in the States. I've done everything to try to fix it: relentless defragging; adjusting pagefile size; set all graphic settings on low; all drivers up to date; edited the options lua file; sound acceleration turned down; added RAM; upgraded my CPU; turned off anti-virus and all unnecessary processes; tried a sound card; etc., etc. Nothing worked. Then last night I tried this: In my nVidia control panel last year, I had forced off anistropic, AA and vsync, and forced on threaded optimization. For the heck of it, I turned all those settings to application-controlled except vsync, which I left forced off. I noticed a distinct and immediate improvement. The sim is still a resource-hog and rather glitchy, but I can at least play it now without wanting to put my fist through the LCD. Just FYI to any other sufferers.

EtherealN, when you say "sound drivers" on an issue like this (I've been have having similar lag and stuttering problems for a year), you mean the mobo's sound drivers, right? Example: I have an ASUS A8NE motherboard with Realtek AC97 onboard sound. The latest AC97 mobo drivers are from about 2006 or 2007 off the ASUS site. Might this be solved by getting a separate sound card? But then how would I remove (if necessary) the other sound drivers?
-
I suppose I'll need to buy a sound card. Using on board sound at the mo. Can't think of anything else.

I've had this same lousy stuttering problem both in the Russian download version I bought last November, and now in the DVD English version patched to 1.01c. It's very aggravating. I've edited my lua file, expanded my virtual memory, run all graphics on low, repeatedly defragged, killed all unneeded processes, turned down sound acceleration, etc., and it still coughs and stutters. I hope ED fixes this at some point. It's a sim killer.

LockOn and TrackIR, is it worth it
franx replied to Victorious1's topic in Lock On: Flaming Cliffs 1 & 2
I got TrackIR 4 two years ago, but had a CRT monitor and lots of trouble finding a way to position the TrackIR adequately, so I neglected it. Just recently I switched to an LCD, began using the TrackIR more seriously -- and everything about the simming experience is now more enjoyable and immersive. It's definitely worth the money. TrackIR is simply terrific, and it works especially well with LOMAC. -
Heavy Zephyr, I'm in the same jam until after Christmas when I plan to switch to CH (my X-45 just died). I'm using the Logitech Force 3D Pro, but not the Logitech gaming software, which I turn off. Black Shark should automatically recognize your stick and you can assign buttons in the BS panel. This works better for me as I learn the sim.

Doh. Sorry for the n00b questions, fellas. I did do a search on this stuff, but missed it the first time. Thanks for the info here.

Yes, that has to be it. OK, I don't have the English Quick Start Guide. To reactivate, should I just erase my installation and reinstall from the original DL?

I have the Russian version of DCS. After upgrading my BIOS and board drivers, I just upgraded my CPU from an AMD Athlon 64 3800+ to a dual core AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+. I then applied the AMD dual core optimizer patch for games. LOMAC:FC and all of my other games and sims seem to work fine with the new CPU. But I can't start DCS. I get to the main screen, but when I try to play a mission, I get a weird alert box in Cyrillic with three boxes. Anybody know what the problem might be?

What Minimal Flightsticks/Controls People Using?
franx replied to SlyBelle's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I began with my trusty Saitek X-45, but it's old and the wiring gave out two days ago. So until I can pony up for another HOTAS, I'm using my backup -- a spare Logitech Force3DPro from my closet. BS recognized it right away, and it's more than adequate at my level of skill for the time being. -
tusler et al, What kind of hit does a two monitor setup take on your FPS?
