  1. I think the placement of the gun had much to do with what was available and what was simple. Placing the gun in a manner similar to the Apache may have entailed designing and building a new gun, and perhaps altering the airframe. Now, in reference to your example, ("Your in your KA-50 shooting a target some where off to the right of you. Then all of the sudden AAA comes up from the ground 1/2 mile to your left side.") let me ask you a question: When you realize that you are being hit broadside by AAA, do you really want to keep that profile, or do you want to turn toward/away from the target to minimize your cross-section; at the same time taking evasive maneuvres?? **for the sake of argument, we'll assume the first hits didn't blow you out of the sky... I think my point is, you will be lucky to survive such encounters, and good recon is the key to the Black Shark.
  2. Yes but the Abris is not 100% reliable. I remember in Beach's 2nd vid, his abris was out to lunch because he only had 4 Sats right above his head, and trshld (threshold) was displayed at the top of the screen. When he did see a 5th sat, he had PDOP 30 (Positional Dilution of Precision), which means his abris is still only accurate to 30-50 meters. Unless of course it read PDOP 3D, in which case i need my eyes checked. I would like to know if we have access to an Almanac, so we can plan our missions around a time when we will have a good sat constellation?!
  3. You would have no co-ords to send if you did not lock up the enemy. AFAIK, your helicopter will not automatically detect enemy units and draw them on the Abris; you must do it yourself... Unless of course it is possible in arcade mode.
  4. I had gone through this thread a couple months back, and again now, very good to see you guys working hard -inspirational in fact. Unfortunately my situation prevents me from building a pit at this time. (RL priorities such as baby due in a few days, also working much overtime!!) @ Cat_101st: I like the look of your pit, and if you wanted my suggestion of what to do with your touchscreen, I would say use the TFT for your Abris moving map; hopefully its supported. We've learned the Schval IS supported, so you should be able to pick up a 10"-13" CRT for the schval, (i saw some on ebay for ~ $20-40), I think it would look very authentic in this case. Of course, I've got no pitbuilding experience myself, just dreams....but if I was planning one, that would be my suggestion. I hope you dont take offense to my very uninformed view! Again, you guys are doing a great job!
  5. Agreed, SST software has caused me much headaches!! Tried to install my Saitek pedals, and it fudged up my X52 drivers?! Had to re-install the software 3 times, and for some reason it now works... unexplainable...
  6. ~ So, under ten meters you would be invulnerable?? Nah, that would be worse than infantry spotting you through the trees. I'm just gonna use terrain as cover until the next engine comes out!
  7. ugghhh... feels like we're wearing the same shirt..LOL!!!
  8. All I wanna know is: are they dynamically modelled? Will balistics change if they are wet, on a rainy day? will different calibers affect them differently?? If I bail in my ejection seat, can i hide behind them??? Is ED planning on bump-mapping them in the future? Can I surround my KA-50 with sandbags???? lol ...sandbags are my least concern...
  9. I would hope something is in the works... Maybe a few requests would kick some tails in gear... http://saitek.com/uk/info/press/Mad%20Catz%20Acquires%20Saitek.pdf On another note, I recieved an unexpected bonus from work, and bought my Saitek Pro Rudder Pedals a month early!!!
  10. sweet, thanks VVanks!! Drat, cant get it to upload?
  11. After I bought my TrackIR, I cannot fly without it... When I watch the Producer note's I catch myself turning my head!!
  12. Most (game)websites are so over-the-top, with bold colours and advertising that practically shoves the product down your neck... I like the present design of this site; however...If there was a webpage (i.e.-the home page of DCS) that had the obnoxious advertising, perhaps a recent news/article column, FAQ column, and some Screenies (and vids of course) with the bold colours and expressive text, [take a look at the Call of Duty sites] this Sim could draw in more mainstream 'gamers', which would make more profit for ED, and would eventually benefit us all. The only drawback would be that aforementioned 'gamers' would spam the forums... Of course this webpage could be made by the community, and link to the forums-(with ED's approval)-and wouldn't waste any of ED's time or resources. I've been monitoring this community for some time now, and the community is very constructive and creative, and could be a valuable resourse....Just some of my observations... Oh and VVANKS, could you make me a sig?! CrazySunDog
  13. Ditto here, Cat. I've had the X52 (vanilla edition :smilewink:) for about 9 mnths, and it feels great!! I did make a minor mod though: I didn't like the stiffness of the spring, so I twisted wire around the gimbal spring, cinching the coil into itself, and did this in two spots. Now the stick has little resistance, just enough to return to center. Also, I used a small amount of silicone spray to help reduce the friction of the plastic plate. :joystick: This weekend I'm going to pick up my Saitek Pedals, and hopefully start working on another little project: a box with about 12-16 buttons/switches for use with the schval, cannon, and Abris!
  14. Hello all, 'been lurking here for most of the year, and must say i'm really impressed by both the Product, and the community that has gathered around it!! I've recently purchased X 52, TrackIR4, and will soon be in posession of saitek pedals and a new PC, with QuadCore 6600+geforce 8800GT. Like SunDown, I keep watching the videos in hopes of catching something new to learn--so much so that when my spouse needs something to help her sleep, she requests Producer's notes! Look forward to chatting with you folks as the release draws nearer... CrazySunDog
  15. ...or less relevant; depending on your point of view...
  16. I guess its time to bust my cherry on these forums...long time lurker, first time poster... As for Over-G, I've probably put in over 300 hours playing that game, and have every achievement. This is the most realistic flight game on a console, but it doesn't reach simulation. However, the gauges and displays in the cockpit work on all a/c. When you are near an airport or carrier(yes there are carrier landings and in multiplayer you can land and takeoff two at a time.) your ILS will come on. When you switch from nav to missiles, your radar changes as well. I had a blast with this game, and just recently switched to the PC sims. Unfortunately, this game was not advertised at all, and although has been out for 2 years, not many picked it up, but those that did still play it religously. We have a forum here: http://www.freepowerboards.com/overg/index.php
