I'm using Google Chrome, version 16.0.912.63 m (the latest version) ... and that's odd. I tried it in IE 8 (Windows 7 default) just now and it works. Sooo something is porked with compatibility with Chrome?

I want to buy DCS A-10 finally and well, the shop is broken. I add it to my cart and then it says to log in, but I'm already logged in and try to do it again and nothing works. I can never move to the next step. It doesn't even say if I logged in or didn't log in, it just sits there. I tried it last night and it was doing the same thing. Please help.

Title says it all. I'm worried with all the graphical goodies that the framerate will be worse in BS 2 than regular BS and it is making me very hesitant. Can anyone give me any input into this? Upgrading is way outta the question right now btw. :) (maybe an overclock but that is about all I can afford) Q9450 2x Nvidia GTX 260's 4 Gigs ram

Ahhh okay. :) That makes me feel better (and sadder) at least. I play with full realism so that explains why. I guess I'll have to try harder to not get shot at. I'm finding you can't really run and gun with the KA-50.

I finally got around to installing Windows 7. I remember hearing in the past that framerate doubles in Windows 7. What do I have to do to utilize these great benefits such as multiple cores? Do I need to use prifinitty?

In one of the pre-recorded demo flights, I heard the helocopter warning the pilot through bitchin betty (or whatever the russian name for her is) saying: "Warning, missile 12 o'clock high" or whatever direction it was coming from in conjunction with the laser lights. How do you get it to both talk and visually warn of these launches, other than the generic "Under attack?"

Widescreen aspect ratio and FOV
Mr_Blastman replied to Mr_Blastman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Why is this in the game controllers forum--it directly relates to DCS Black Shark as that is where it is geared... Moderators, please fix, thanks. Oh, and thanks Schwinn. -
Widescreen aspect ratio and FOV

Okay. :) I think I got it. Now what key toggles framerate? Thanks for the help btw. -
Widescreen aspect ratio and FOV
Mr_Blastman replied to Mr_Blastman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Okay, let me rephrase... I want it to not be stretched like it is in widescreen, I want to have extra view to my sides - i.e. more of the side of the cockpit rather than it being stretched to fill the screen. -
Okay, I got a 16:10 27-inch LG monitor yesterday, 50000:1 contrast ratio, 2ms response etc. - I hope it is good, we'll see. I still have to hack apart a 60 inch bigscreen TV and rip out the fresnel but that'll come later. So, in DCS, I selected a higher res, 1680x1050, set the aspect 16:10, should be good, right? NOPE I enter the sim and my Field of View is still the same 90 degrees or whatever and it is using the 4:3 aspect ratio, stretched. So, everything looks fatter. How do I get this to be a 120 degree FOV from side to side, 90 up and down with a 16:10 aspect ratio - so it at least looks right? Help! :)

Simple question: I want to upgrade to Windows 7 Beta to try it - only because I hear BlackShark runs way faster with multicore in DX 10 due to some DX 10 optimizations. That is all, I don't want to use the OS for anything else. I'm using XP right now and feel like I'm missing out. Which do I go to for best performance with DCS - 32 bit or 64 bit? Thanks.
-
Okay - thanks for the answers guys. :) If it is realistic, then that's what I want. :)

Right now I get nearly a 1 second delay between pressing the fire button and the actual FFAR's firing from my helocopter. Is this normal and like this in real life? It seems peculiarly off as the FFAR's are an unguided weapon and in a unstable platform like the helo, instantaneous response would seem more logical to increase accuracy. The cannon has zero delay between pulling the trigger and firing. In the F-16, there is a delay with AMRAAMS, but that is due to to the firing computer downloading data to the missile. FFAR's are unguided. You should just hit the button and they launch.

The fresnel solution costs... 50 bucks at most. Not too bad. :)
-
Why use 3d goggles if you can use a fresnel lens instead? Works just as well without the headgear. http://www.rickleephoto.com/rlcoll.htm Also, there is no framerate hit.

Your buddy more than likely had a heatsource in the FOV of the Track IR - such as a glimmer of sunlight or a lamp. That will throw it off. No - you can't complain about this, because Track IR uses... Infra Red. It is what lets us use it in the dark. Track IR is worth every penny, feel free to use your free solution. The rest of us would rather not monkey around with it and just plug it in, enjoy all the features and play. *edit* Your Buddy's Track IR wasn't set up right. A properly set up unit (which takes only minutes to do), will work perfectly.

Hah. For the 150 bucks, Track IR was worth every cent. They did all the work for me, they put together an awesome product, they update it every month or two with new profiles, the software is amazing with different profiles for every game along with curves etc, and it just works great. I saw no point in trying an alternative. I am sure the alternatives are good, but I do not think they are better. The hard working folks at Naturalpoint earned my money.

1. I play Team Fortress 2 and I'm 33... what does that make me? I also play Falcon 4.0 (since the day it came out) among many other sims. 2. You should try Falcon 4.0 and check out the tutorials in that sim (or lack of thereafter, well - really, there are real tutorials if you use the manual in conjunction with the sim and it is pretty well done). This is a study sim. You are going to have to bust your butt with hours of trial and error before you even become slightly competent. They are all like this. Previous experience with other helocopter simulators is a HUGE help though, it will save you many many hours. For HOTAS - download someone else's profile. :) I do though, understand from a newbie standpoint that you point out - it could be more accessible with more interactive training. I basically threw the training in BS out the window and flew single missions over and over or even set up my own free flight mission to experiment with. I learned more doing that than anything else, but, I have hundreds of hours of flight time in other helo sims. Don't give up! The reward is worth it. :)

Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar Vs. CH Fighterstick
Mr_Blastman replied to GuntiNDDS's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
That looks like a modified CH Fighterstick to me. I love the hacked up AV8R! That is actually a really good idea for it. What are you using for the base unit of the collective? -
Thrustmaster HOTAS Cougar Vs. CH Fighterstick
Mr_Blastman replied to GuntiNDDS's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
HOTAS Cougar + UBER II NXT Mod and HALL Sensors > All other store bought options... Unless you build a full blown cyclic/collective. Then I would have to say that would rock them all - that is, unless you managed to hack in either a CH Board or a Cougar board into the unit and add all the programmability and functionality. But, I look at it like this - 750.00 for a modded Cougar, about 100.00 for modded pedals versus 1500.00 to 2000.00 for a full cyclic and collective. It is just a matter of how much you are willing to spend really. My NXT Cougar gives me a lot of bang for the buck. -
Multimonitor question
Mr_Blastman replied to Mr_Blastman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Why, in Vista, does it provide a performance increase then and not in XP if there is no multithreading? By definition, multithreading is a programming/processor method which is interchangeable between operating systems. If Vista is seeing improvement, I would say there is some sort of multithreading already there - or not? Am I wrong? I can realize this takes time on ED's part, both in man hours and money, but the majority of people flying simulators use XP still due to older sims having serious problems with Vista and above. -
Multimonitor question
Mr_Blastman replied to Mr_Blastman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
And _that_ is a pile of poop! XP uses multicore MORE than well enough, as is evident in _many_ multicore games that I have on my system right now. Flight Simulator X - saw a HUGE framerate increase when it properly supported multicore. Supreme Commander saw a HUGE framerate increase as well. Team Fortress 2 did also. I could go on all day long, but there is nothing wrong with XP's multicore implementation at all. It works just swell. The thing I am referring to is possibly a developers comment a while back where they mentioned that someone somewhere screwed up _ONE_ line of DCS code which screwed up multicore support for all XP users. http://simhq.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/2684529/Re_Patch_1_0_1_Info.html#Post2684529 There is no excuse at all for XP Multicore support to not be worth a darn. Period. I would like some clarification on this comment and whether it also pertains to XP users who rightfullly deserve proper implementation and proper speed increase benefits from using their additional cores. XP is based off of Windows 2000 which was a Server OS and XP is a newer, improved version of it. 2000 most definitely had proper multicore support as it was used on servers around the world running multiple processors. This multicore thing isn't new, multiple processors have been around for years - heck, I remember back in college in 1993 we had a server on campus running 16 386 cores, granted, it was using Solaris as the operating system. I would like clarification please. :) Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming. I would like to see some ED People comment on the multimonitor stuff I have posted, especially when it comes to: a. framerate b. Exporting instruments such as ABRIS via something like f4glass to a second computer to take the load off. -
I'm using PoleCat's - how is Vipers and where is it? Oh and, yes, you need to download a programmable profile if you want to use the Cougar to its potential. edit, nevermind, you can get Vipers files at http://cougar.frugalsworld.com

Multimonitor question
Mr_Blastman replied to Mr_Blastman's topic in PC Hardware and Related Software
Not a SINGLE comment by a member of the ED team or one of the beta crew. Wow, this is really reassuring. At least with FreeFalcon 5 or OpenFalcon I would have more than received a few comments about something like this.
