Varjo Aero: Общее руководство для новых владельцев
MAThrasher replied to Supmua's topic in Virtual Reality
Just throwing an idea out there, shouldn't this thread be pinned to the top of the Virtual Reality forum? The very first post by @Supmua is very informative and useful. There is now a "Varjo Support Link" but it doesn't contain very much. That support link could be added to this thread in the first post. Just my 2 cents... -
@prancibald I am running the native openXR, MT, DFR openbeta DCS. With all these great features, I picked a good time to get on the Aero wagon!
-
I unchecked the "enable HMD Mask" and I flew a 15 minute mission without any hiccups! I guess I will spend the next couple of days doing nothing but performance optimization.
-
Thanks @Loopan. I checked my settings and the "enable the HMD Mask" is checked. I will disable it and give that a test.

Based on @edmuss original post, I am leaning towards it being a performance issue. Just to the right of my setup, I have two french doors with glass panes in them. When I first started using the Aero, those doors were open. This means the left mounted base station was pointing directly to the glass. The interference would cause me to just randomly start translating until I was completely out of the cockpit. Once I closed those doors, the interference stopped. The main point being that it was a "smooth" translation interference. The interference behaved different than this complete pause I have now. My computer has never been optimized in any way. When I had the G2 everything worked smoothly so I didn't do anything. Heck, I would even run DCS and never close Chrome and other apps. This is the reason that I know I need to be performance focused. I ran the Heaven benchmarking tool for "extreme" testing and my score seemed a little low compared to other computers. My score was 10666. I will do some optimization and see how it affects things.

Thanks for all the input. I just saw the VR4DCS and it looks like there is a lot of good info there. I will go through it in detail.

I came from the Reverb G2 headset. I recently purchased my Aero, and I really love the way things look. I am having only one issue that I need to fix. I have been doing all of my initial testing on simple single player missions and I maintain a constant 90 fps. I am using the Native openXR and I have a 12700K cpu and 4090 gpu. Every 30 to 60 seconds it seems that the screen freezes for about 1-2 seconds and then rapidly moves to catch up to where I am looking. I can't decide if this is some stutter issue or a tracking issue. I am including a photo of my office to show where I mounted the base stations. One base station is directly above my monitor and the other is 90 degrees to my left. Does anyone see a problem with the mount locations of the base stations? How can I determine if this is a tracking issue or some other stutter issue?

Thanks @dburne, that is a great idea. I have home automation and I tell Alexa when I am going to bed so certain lights are turned off. I will just add a smart plug to be turned off with the going to bed routine.

My Varjo Aero is supposed to be delivered tomorrow, and I have a question for current users of the headset. I think I remember seeing a post that said the Aero does not shut off and can have burn-in if left on. Is this true? What do current users do to remind you to turn off (unplug) the Aero?
-
If there is anyone trying to decide whether to buy the Aero, there are only 5 days left in the 15% off sale.

So it is possible to use the Aero without a controller? The only controllers I currently own are the G2 controllers. Thanks for the YouTube link...I will watch it. I just placed my order so it is now waiting time!
-
I have been on the fence for several months between the Crystal and Aero. I decided last night to go with the Aero and take advantage of the spring sale. I have never owned a Pimax, but my gut feeling is the Aero may be a more polished product. I do have a couple of questions before I order. I will only use the Aero with DCS, so do I need 1 or 2 tracking stations? Which controller is recommended to use with the Aero? I will probably place my order tonight.

@Steel Jaw There is a setting that confines the mouse cursor. I don't recall exactly where...it may be in the VR tab.

The board I used is Adafruit Feather nRF52840 Sense. I tried different boards with external IMU's but this was the simplest route.

After a several year hiatus from flight summing, VR pulled me back in. VR is a complete game changer. After starting with VR, I quickly realized the importance of using a kneeboard and coming up with a way of interacting with the cockpit buttons/switches. After doing some homework and research, I finally discovered the product Point Ctrl. I was eager to order one, and then I realized there was a year or more wait. I ordered me one on January 16, 2022…and still waiting. While waiting, I had no choice but to come up with another solution. Here is the solution I have until I get something better. Here is a picture. I tried many different designs, but the one that worked best is the one that attaches on the finger. Here is a list of features for the HID: Wireless, bluetooths to computer. (The white dongle in the picture is only used for charging) 500 mAh rechargeable battery Has IMU with 9 DoF. (Accelerometer, gyro, magnetometer) Sensor fusion algorithm is Madgwick Main control board is Adafruit Feather Sense The buttons on the unit have the following actions: Top left button toggles bluetooth on/off Top right button controls sensitivity Bottom left button sets center for HID orientation Bottom middle button (left mouse click) Bottom right button (right mouse click) On/off switch at top right The main DIY skillsets needed to build this HID are: 3D printing (I used Fusion 360 to design the controller body and lid) Soldering (only requires basic skills of thru hole components) Loading software on mainboard (I can provide the code for it). I did my initial code using Platform IO and then switched to Arduino IDE. Code in C++ Calibrating magnetometer using Motion Cal The data for the IMU sensors are converted to AHRS using the Madgwick library. Once the roll, pitch, and yaw of the HID are known, it is converted into mouse units. The units are absolute from the center of the VR HMD view. The pointer in the cockpit is controlled by translating or rotating the wrist/finger. I find it works great on the left hand on the throttle. With simple movements of the left hand, I have cursor control in the cockpit. I tried making one for the right hand as well, but it interfered with the flight stick and I could not wrap my fingers on the stick. I am curious as to how well PointCTRL works when being attached to the right finger. I could not come up with a design for the right hand that felt comfortable. It is not really needed though since the left hand works so well. I have tweaked the sensitivity to my liking and use motion smoothing for nice fine control. I am getting ready to build me another one. If anyone is interested, I can fully document every step of the process and make that available.

I just noticed on the Pimax Facebook page that they have started shipping to Pre-orders.

When you add it to the cart, it shows the new updated price. $1691.50

15% off sure makes it more tempting! I have been on the fence for a while.

I finally got the 4090 card also. I spent a long time searching and using "NowInStock". It was frustrating to react as soon as I was notified only to find out it is no longer in stock. What finally worked for me was a little weird. I added an available card to my cart on NewEgg, and it told me it was out of stock before I could pay. I then did the "Save for Later", and it popped up suggested items for me. In that list was an MSI Suprim Liqjuid X at MSRP. I successfully bought that card. I wasn't planning on getting the water cooled, but I didn't want to pass up the opportunity.

The transparency slider I checked is in the "EX" tab...it is called "knee". I changed it from dim all the way to bright. It didn't seem to have any effect. All of the other kneeboard pages look perfectly normal. What really baffles me is the problem only exists for purchased modules. I saw a couple of posts where the person said they found their problem to be a "key binding" issue. I'm not sure what was meant by that. Any ideas about key binding?

I did flight simming hardcore a few years ago. With interest in getting back started since the advent of VR, I have spent the past few weeks getting VR headset, hotas, etc. I finally have the complete system and ready to fly. The one last thing I wanted was voice commands. In the past, I used TeamSpeak. It seems that most people are going the Vaicom Pro route, so I bought it the other night. I got the entire bundle that includes Chatter, kneeboard, etc. Doing the install, I followed the manual with as much detail as possible. I installed the latest version of VoiceAttack and the Vaicom Pro plugin. I modified all of the settings as listed in the manual. I made sure to run everything as administrator. I started VoiceAttack and Vaicom and then DCS. I selected an F-18 mission and saw that the cockpit was nothing but a few pieces of scrap metal from the nose of the jet. There is no cockpit. I had this happen a few weeks ago and I fixed it by reinstalling the module for F-18. With the newly installed mod, I started a free flight and pressed right-shift+k to pull up the kneeboard. The opening page is just a transparent rectangle. It is not the bookmarked page that the Vaicom manual shows. I tried the A-10 jet and the same thing (transparent rectangle). I tried the Su-25 and the Vaicom kneeboard does show as it is supposed to. The problem seems to only appear for purchased mods. I removed Vaicom Pro and reinstalled it...kneeboard again has the transparent page showing. The other pages of the kneeboard show up fine. As a last straw, I completely removed VoiceAttack and Vaicom and did a reinstall. Same issue is still there for the transparent page. I don't have any idea of what to try next. One last thing. I decided to try my kneeboard builder app and see what would happen when I opened the kneeboard in the F-18. When I started the mission, the garbled up scrap metal for a cockpit was there again. Something is clobbering my cockpit graphics and I don't know what. I removed and reinstalled the F-18 mod again and it fixed the cockpit. I need some advice because I don't have a clue as to what is going wrong here. The only other mod I am using is OpenXR...not Steam. My OS is Windows 11. My DCS install is vanilla with the exception of OpenXR. Any ideas as to what is happening with my setiup?? Thanks for any feedback.

Absolutely 100%. The jump from single monitor to multi monitor, None of these things are even close to the jump going to VR. VR is a complete game changer.
