So, I took up a Black Shark the other night on Open Conflict Server. I was snooping steadily along the coast toward enemy positions. I stopped briefly behind a hill so I could check my ABRIS and ensure I was in the right place.
Satisfied with my location, I slowly poked over the hill and surveyed the area with my Shkval sensor suite. While head down, I heard Betty say, "Warning, under attack." Looking up, I see the laser indicator on my Shark is showing an airborne laser and it is from the front. I had a few moments to stare dumbly at the indicator mouthing "What the ****?" before a GBU-12 removed my Black Shark from the map.
It turns out an A-10C had dropped a bomb and guided it into my helicopter with his targeting pod.
10/10 would get bombed in a helicopter again.
Edit: I have to clarify that I absolutely LOVED that. I laughed heartily for a good 30 seconds when I saw the notification come across.
Also to respond to the earlier poster who lamented taking up helos into the combat area, there are a few ways to keep yourself safer. Firstly, you can try and fly nap of the earth as much as possible. Secondly, keep an ear out on the AWACS channel to see when things are moving around near you. Finally, despite those two suggestions, you still will be shot down. That's just the nature of the beast when flying a slow moving helicopter. Don't let it frustrate you too much. If you really want to get even though, take up a Mistral Gazelle and "surprise" them.
