  1. So, I took up a Black Shark the other night on Open Conflict Server. I was snooping steadily along the coast toward enemy positions. I stopped briefly behind a hill so I could check my ABRIS and ensure I was in the right place. Satisfied with my location, I slowly poked over the hill and surveyed the area with my Shkval sensor suite. While head down, I heard Betty say, "Warning, under attack." Looking up, I see the laser indicator on my Shark is showing an airborne laser and it is from the front. I had a few moments to stare dumbly at the indicator mouthing "What the ****?" before a GBU-12 removed my Black Shark from the map. It turns out an A-10C had dropped a bomb and guided it into my helicopter with his targeting pod. 10/10 would get bombed in a helicopter again. Edit: I have to clarify that I absolutely LOVED that. I laughed heartily for a good 30 seconds when I saw the notification come across. Also to respond to the earlier poster who lamented taking up helos into the combat area, there are a few ways to keep yourself safer. Firstly, you can try and fly nap of the earth as much as possible. Secondly, keep an ear out on the AWACS channel to see when things are moving around near you. Finally, despite those two suggestions, you still will be shot down. That's just the nature of the beast when flying a slow moving helicopter. Don't let it frustrate you too much. If you really want to get even though, take up a Mistral Gazelle and "surprise" them.
  2. Agreed. The Gazelles all need a little adjustment in their passenger capacity. M version should have 1 seat. Mistral version should have 2 seats. L version should have 0 seats, unless we are doing expedient rescues and tossing them in the back with the ammo crates. :music_whistling:
  3. I just want to say how much fun I've been having the past few days on the 104th server. I've been flying under the call sign "Counsel" I've been flying choppers almost exclusively since I purchased a Rift last month. I spent a few weeks learning the ins and outs of the various choppers in Single Player and on the Open Conflict server. A few days ago I decided to try out the 104th. Man, I'm glad I did. CTLD gives chopper pilots some real tasks to accomplish and a real impact on the mainly fighter-centric battlefield. I generally start a session in a Gazelle of some sort. I will go scout the FARP location and see what's what. I've been really enjoying the Mistral version for this reason. The RWR and defensive AA capability are great. The RWR really helps to give some context to the fighter battle waging around. If the FARP is squared away, I might drop the AA team I generally carry or push forward to the bulls eye. Carrying the AA team in the Mistral allows me to "bracket" a valley with an AA team on a hill top and my own mistrals circulating around another hilltop. I got my first F-15 kill doing this. Last night, a buddy and I took up Hueys and secured a FARP by ourselves. We brought a Mix of AA and standard troops. The ability to fast rope troops into combat and then support then with CAS is so freaking cool. We managed to ferry out enough crates to get a FOB setup. At that point I setup a KUB launcher by myself. So neat. I had to call the session short at that point as I was getting "VR Neck." So, I wasn't able to see if my SAM made a difference. However, knowing that choppers have such a large "area-denial" capability is great. I can't wait to get home from work and take up another chopper!
  4. I agree with Cosmic. An hour added to either side would be best in my opinion. An extra hour of daylight and an hour of semi to total darkness. NVG flying is fun, and night flying would help pilots learn their low-light sensors better. (A10, Gazelle, etc.)
  5. I would be open to spotting with a Gazelle M for you guys. I can pop the BTR with a HOT and hopefully spot the IGLA. Gazelle has a limited ability to "peak" over ridgelines.
  6. Hey! Just want to say I love your server. I've been flying around in the Gazelle recently under the Callsign "Counsel." I really enjoy the variety of tasks that you can perform. For example: I took up a Gazelle with HOTS, fired at a convoy, then went and rescued a downed aviator with my one passenger seat. Love it! Edit: One question: any thoughts about running a Nevada or Normandy server?
  7. After really enjoying the M-2000C, I would LOVE the D version. A dedicated striker Mirage.
  8. I am also having issues with the backup compass. In 1.5 from a cold start the compass does not move at all. It stays aligned to 0 degrees the entire flight. Am I missing a step in my startup? Do you have to uncage it? The backup compass works for me in 2.1 however.
