The other half of this story would be the AGM-45, AGM-78 and maybe even the AGM-88 (1985) anti-radiation missiles. I guess the Sidearm on the Harrier is sort of a proxy for the AGM-45 but the AGM-78 has been around since 1968 and we have nothing like it for DCS. Also I believe the US used dedicated chaff bombers (dropping large amounts of chaff at high altitude) extensively in Vietnam to degrade the SA-2's performance. Sounds like a good job for the AI.
  2. What I am seeing with the mavericks is that if I try to launch multiple mavericks (using the DMT TV sensor to spot the targets) at some point pushing Sensor Select AFT no longer puts the DMT into TV mode. It just goes back and forth between INS and LST. The cursor on the HUD gets "stuck" on the last locked point and won't unlock/release with the NWS key and the TV image flashes intermittently in the MPCD. The first missile is always OK but after that seems unstable. Mavericks seem to work fine with the TPOD.
  3. Possible bug? If I am in the copilot seat (via "2" key) the video box vertical pan loses stabilization and the sight just keeps drifting downward. Also from the copilot's seat the auto-hover sync heading function is no longer working correctly(?). All works correctly if I stay in the pilot's seat.
  4. No. Not really sure exactly when I broke it so hard to say. I did the 2.2 to 2.5 merge install and somehow broke it in the process of setting everything up. Had not put any mods in yet. Works fine now. What I can't get to work right now in the latest build (2.5.0.14304) is the video box controller vertical pan and heading sync in auto hover. If I press "E" to sync the helicopter heading with the video system the helicopter just keeps turning right through the correct heading and the video view turns with it (doesn't stay stabilized and sync up like it used to). Also the video view and cross hairs just keeps drifting slowly downward requiring constant tapping of the ; key to hold on target. Can't seem to get the pan functions (vertical or horizontal) to successfully map to any joystick axes either(?). Is there something new that has to be done to get it to stabilize like it would in earlier versions or is this a bug? [Edit - I think this is a bug as I just discovered that if I stay in the pilot's seat the video control box and HOT3 aiming system works normally - As soon as I go the the gunner's seat with the "2" key the sight starts drifting and the heading sync no longer works correctly]
  5. After later corrupting DCS 2.5 completely (?? trying to load old .miz file from 2.2???) I did a repair install and recreated ..\Saved Games\DSC World OpenBeta from scratch. That has fixed it. No idea how I broke it in the first place.
  6. Is the mouse pan/zoom view system now broken or am I missing something? Works for me in default a/c but not in Gazelle. Thanks.
  7. On the German side "Nebelwerfers" came in different rocket diameter and tube configurations. From what I've read they were very common and effective in Normandy. I think this was one of the common types. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/15_cm_Nebelwerfer_41
  8. Same here - As far as I can tell the WW2 assets and CA are still very, very much WIP. If it's any help (not much) I have been able to run the Firefly (and Tiger 2) by doing the following: a) Put an AA gun (Bofors for Allied or flak 30 for German) someplace irrelevant on the map. b)When the map loads take control of the AA gun first then jump to the tank. c) I get no HUD/gunsight or info of any sort. Pressing "E" switches between AP and HE (I think). Spacebar to fire. B for binoculars works. No external view with Insert. Arrow keys to move turret/aim gun. Very clunky at this point. Frankly the T-55 or something more modern might be a better choice for now. The visibility/play-ability issues for the Normandy map still need a lot of tweaking. Bocage fighting usually involved having scout infantry sneaking around and trying to identify the other side's positions. As far as I can tell nothing is sneaking up on the AI on the Normandy map at this point. They seem to have perfect under the trees 360 deg vision which you can't effectively block even with smoke (?). Your POV in the tanks is so high you can't see anything but the trees. The Normandy map is so nice hope ED spends some time on this to make it somewhat playable. There's really no other combo strategy/shooter out there for WW2 is there(?) - a lot of potential.
  9. +1 http://www.rquirk.com/cdnradar/cor/chapter11.pdf Description of allied GCI in Normandy in 1944 - Three radar equipped LSTs with ground based stations set up very shortly after the initial invasion.
  10. Best resource I've seen on understanding WW2 flak.
