  1. I'm a bit worried about these versions merging into 2.5 as although 2.2 has better graphics on a monitor, currently 1.58 is definitely smoother game play in VR than 2.2, so which version will prevail from a VR perspective? As an example, I'm running 1.58 at 1.5 x resolution in game and 2.5 x Super Sampling. For 2.2 the optimum smoothness/ clarity is at 1.0 x resolution in game. Cockpit dials etc. not visible until close up.
  2. Same for me since updating 1.58 this week. Game runs fine in VR, but 1070 GPU maxed out when playing on monitor or replays.
  3. You're a star LeCuvier...Its "#" on my keyboard too and it does work. Thank you so much!
  4. Thanks for your help. I'm not running any mods. I'm referring to F15-C in 1.57, 1.58 Beta and V2.0 Alpha. I'll try the A10-A and see how it goes too.
  5. Hi Guys, I'm not able to open the Comms menu in any versions of the game either on or off the ground. I'm trying both '\' key and right Alt +R, but nothing happens. I have 'easy Comms ticked in the options. Any ideas whats wrong or what I'm doing wrong please? Thanks,
  6. Thanks Mustang..That's much better! :-)
  7. Thanks guys, I'm not sure what's going on. I have updated to latest G-Force driver and tried adjusting all graphics settings without any positive effect. I have tried on monitor view and although not as bad, I can still see shimmering. I think the graphics quality of the game in general looks worse/ lower than 1.57 to me?? The VR view is awful, looks like its been sharpened, sharpened and sharpened again. I wish I could share a screenshot of the actual Vive view somehow?
  8. Having tried the newly arrived Harrier I am sorry to say I am very disappointed. Being a VR player with Vive the graphics quality in cockpit is really bad, i.e detail is not visible, just looks like its shimmering. :( Other planes in 1.57 are amazingly good quality with detail legible. Also, low FPS in beta version of the game makes it un-playable. I'm getting jitters just turning my head in the menu screen. Anyone else with VR impressed?
  9. Thanks, but why? FPS is much better with external views btw. Cockpit view seems to be the killer.
  10. Looking forward to getting to know this plane, but first impressions are what happened to the FPS in VR? F15-C and A10 give super smooth 45FPS+ but Harrier is stuttering at 20-25 FPS even with all graphics at minimum and clickable cockpit turned off. Not sure how this would have gone un noticed to the devs?
  11. I believe they have to change the base game to allow for features of new planes such as the Harrier to work, so at some point the new upgraded version of the game has to be released for customers to try before officially releasing. This is our chance now :-)
  12. Thanks so much guys for your feedback.. I figured I need single core performance for DCS (and most other flight sims by the look of things), which is what I'm mostly interested in, so despite the mutli-core claims and price of the Ryzen chips Intel does look like the best way to go. The i3 8350k seems up there at a good price and spec, (Currently £164 and around 90% better single core performance than my current CPU) i5 7600k appears about the same spec, but for some reason £40 dearer. Socket 1151 motherboard is on its way, but not sure now between the i3 and i5
  13. I'm playing with a Vive and although I can get a smooth 45 FPS + in free flight and ground attack, I'm desperately trying to reduce stuttering in close air combat situations. (Sometimes as low as 15 - 20 FPS) I'm looking to upgrade my CPU from an aging AMD FX 4300 to something like a Core i5-7600X, AMD Ryzen 5 1500X or similar. I'm using a Nvidia 1070 PNY graphics card and about to install a SSD, so I'm sure my CPU is the weakest component now. I'll also need a new motherboard and RAM, so the upgrade will cost £300 +. Any feedback on quality/ smoothness of game play with similar CPU spec before I invest would be much appreciated. Thanks
  14. I mostly played with shadows flat and found differences in FPS but the same is true with all shadows off. Flying around Batumi it's smooth 45 + until I look/ head towards the town when it still drops to 30. The cockpit looks bland without shadows so best fix is to just avoid built up areas.
  15. Having flown some more around the map in 1.57 this evening whilst monitoring FPS I found buildings cause the biggest change in FPS in game. With high graphics settings I'm getting smooth 45 FPS +, but as soon as I either head towards, look towards or fly over buildings there's a significant drop in performance. Whilst they look impressive, I wonder if built up areas are worth the FPS penalty when flying?? It would be great to be able to switch buildings 3D off as a VR graphics option or even change them to 2D once at a certain altitude where the 3D is lost anyway. After all, who's looking at the buildings when dodging missiles? For now I found I can improve game play choosing locations away from them. 45 + with super sampling at 2.5,shadows on etc.
  16. I'm really liking this game the more I get into it, especially for the VR experience with Vive. The main issue I'm finding confusing is the variation in FPS performance. So far I'm only playing 'Instant Action' or 'Quick missions' but finding massive difference in FPS. The first thing I did of course is drop all the graphics setting to minimum, no shadows mirrors etc, but still finding some games run at super smooth 45 - 90 FPS and others a stuttering 20 - 30 FPS. I'm monitoring my PC performance and can see no difference between background processes/ resources etc when experiencing the extremes of FPS, but the one sure repeatable way to initiate the two is by choosing certain games/locations. As an example the only instant action available for A10-A in Caracus runs 20 - 30 FPS every time even with lowest settings, but the top choice for the A10-C in Caracus runs 45 - 90 FPS even with high graphics settings. The next scenario down the list for the A10-C (Russia I think) runs at 20 - 30 FPS every time again even with the lowest settings. I found the similar thing with quick missions. With all settings left alone, and using the same plane throughout, FPS performance seems to depend on where the battle is based on the map. This is usually evident with the FPS display in the 'Fly Now' hold screen before the game starts. Some say 30 FPS and some say 45 FPS. The latter is almost always a perfectly smooth game. I'm going to do a bit more digging and find out if its the actual location that makes the big difference or active contents, i.e planes tanks etc. System: AMD FX4300 3.8GHz, Nvida/PNY GTX1070, 8G RAM
  17. Relatively new to DCS, having started from another ww2 flight sim game. I have to say graphically this Spitfire is one of the best, especially the cockpit in VR... Just incredible!! Looking forward to trying out some missions with this one once I get the controls fine tuned to match the unique ability of the plane. One thing I have noticed is the engine sound doesn't seem to match the revs.. Just seems to get quieter at low revs instead of changing pitch? It'd be great if this was given more of a growl. Otherwise fantastic job
