  1. I forgot to mention that because hand occlusion is built into the OS, I can actually see my HOTAS gear or anything that my hands are touching. This is feature is very neat. EDIT: I didn't see the real gear but since the positioning of the in-game F/A18 and my own HOTAS are basically almost 1:1, it gave me that sort of impression. Hand occlusion also includes the entire arm/shoulder, my iPhone and Apple Watch also show up so I can actually flick my wrist to check the time on the watch or whip up my phone to read messages while playing--without taking off the headset. Another good thing is that Reshade 6.01 works with OpenXR, so oversaturation issue can be easily fixed by using tonemap filter and dial the saturation down to around -0.2.
  2. Very similar. It has the same narrowish vertical FOV, but decent horizontal FOV (I’m using the lightseal size that puts my eyes very close to the lens inserts). It’s basically a gimped Aero 2 for me with crazy good OELD screens and higher res (much better and brighter than PSVR2 screens with zero mura), albeit wireless with more compressed image fidelity due to Wi-Fi streaming. There is also no dynamic foveation support to help with framerate (at present there is fixed foveation option in the setting but I’m not sure if it’s even working).
  3. I've been messing around with my Apple Vision Pro and DCS using the Testflight version of ALVR vision with nightly version of ALVR streamer, and the result is already quite impressive. In the ALVR settings, I use 3600x3200 emulated resolution setting (default res on these microOLED screens), HVEC encoding, 120 Mbps. There is hand gesturing support option so controller isn't needed (the only gesture needed is the Steam overlay menu on/off--done with left thumb+left pinky pinch). DCS setting is pretty much unchanged from my Varjo setup. Steam rather than Varjo is set to run OpenXR. My PC has direct connection to a network access point and the Vision Pro is the sole device on a separate wifi channel to minimize latency. The visual clarity in DCS is very similar to my Varjo Aero perhaps slightly less, which is surprising considering it's wifi-streamed vs direct connection. Color fidelity however is superior with the microOLED screens resulting in great amount of contrast and vibrancy, although as mentioned before with the current iteration the default color saturation seems way too high on every app. There is minimal color fringe and only seen at the edge of the screen (moderate on the Aero), no chromostereopsis issue (popout red, popin blue). Night flying is a superb experience with true blacks and zero color banding (even though color saturation is too high at present). Framerate isn't as good, but not bad either (80-85 fps on F-18 Caucasus Freeflight, 70-75 on F-16 Night Freeflight). This might improve with a bit more fine tuning of the settings in DCS/Steam/ALVR. I think this is definitely a viable option once the software side improves, and should Apple decide to unlock the developer's USB/thunderbolt port for wired connection the image quality and latency might improve even more. I might put together a DCS guide once the software is more mature.
  4. My two cents. Been using mine since Feb 2nd, mostly as iPad and home theater replacement . Right now it’s very new and not great for PCVR gaming. Apple has never been big on gaming so this device is meant to be used with contents from their app stores (movies, music, productivity apps, simple games). This may change as they seem to be sponsoring more games similar to what they did to movies and music. The most striking aspect of this headset is the screen (3.6K x 3.2K dual micro OLED) which is what I would call pristine, good enough as a monitor replacement with no mura, true blacks, excellent contrast and brightness that can make my eyes uncomfortable in certain scenes especially from IMAX movies. The PCVR option via ALVR/virtual desktop is interesting but until Apple opens up the device and allows direct USB/thunderbolt connection (via their developer’s adapter or consumer kit) performance and/or image quality will probably be subpar via WiFi streaming.
  5. I have one coming my way with Feb 2nd delivery, won't be any good for PCVR but it will likely trigger other companies to release more headsets if successful so indirect positive effect maybe. It does support Steam Link so you can stream Steam's nonVR games to it.
  6. Got mine awhile back. No issues and the extra buttons are really great.
  7. It can work right out of the box without any mods or command lines, but you have to use Steam OpenXR instead of Varjo OpenXR. Steam OpenXR currently does not support Varjo quadview or eyetracking so you will lose those benefits. On the other hand, Steam will convert the default quadview output from DCS (which does not work correctly unless you use mbucchia’s mod) into working stereoview without the need for mod or command line; and Steam overlay can also be quite useful allowing you to place a desktop window within DCS (discord, pdf viewer, etc.), or run concurrent SteamVR apps with DCS (for example, fpsVR).
  8. The screenshot shows autoexposure: OFF in the bottom left, that option is not present in DCS setting. So you may be using a 3rd party mod with postprocessing ability and on-screen overlay, just have to turn off that overlay somehow.
  9. Can you take a screen shot of it? Could it be from a 3rd party mod with screen overlay on? Are you using OXRTK?
  10. Can a few people check NVIDIA's NIS option (sharpening via NVIDIA control panel)? I think it works in VR now especially with DLSS, better than in DCS setting I think.
  11. I'm currently pretty happy with DLSS Quality, sharpness 0.2, technicolor 3. DLSS does a pretty good job of eliminating shimmering if your sharpness setting is not too high. The performance is the best so far vs prior releases with the combination of DLSS and dynamic foveation (90 fps in most freeflights). The new graphic update adds a lot of options to play with, almost too many, but that's good. Still have to try manual DLSS settings as well as using newer DLSS version (DCS currently uses 3.5.0).
  12. Not on ground level. I can get 90 fps but only in the air and outside of congested areas, and definitely not at max settings. DLSS doesn't help much in CPU limited situations, with heavily scripted missions the best bet would be locked 45 fps setting for smooth gameplay.
  13. It's always a good idea to have the Aero on with Varjo Base running, before doing anything else. Anyway, for DLSS option I find it to be similar to MSFS in terms of image quality with slight increase in blurriness and if you dial in any sharpness setting the shimmering artifacts can be seen right away, easily seen in maps with prominent ground details such as Mariana. DLAA is better but incurs performance hit similar to MSAA 2X. A good compromise might be DLSS at high or very high quality settings. I'm also not sure if DFR is fully optimized with DLSS either, noticed more stuttering but this could be because of the new graphic engine itself. Also haven't had a chance to try it in non-DFR mode.
  14. Have you tried the non-MT version? I played around a bit last night with DLSS quality setting and didn’t notice any major issue (MT DCS with Varjo Foveated mod only). Try removing all 3rd party mods if you still can’t get to run and see how that goes.
  15. Finally long-awaited DLSS support, also TAA option which is nice. Can't wait to check it out.
  16. This can only mean that some new major headset announcement is coming, either from Varjo themselves or other companies.
  17. I preordered the Orion 2/F-15EX set, it looks too good to pass up at this price point.
  18. Indirect positive effect of the Apple headset. https://www.ibtimes.co.uk/samsung-revamp-its-galaxy-xr-headset-compete-apple-vision-pro-1716764 So we may see Samsung/Google HMD with similar screen resolution next year rather than 2K per eye, hopefully PCVR compatible not just a stand alone device. This could potentially be the next go to headset for DCS.
  19. I don't think Apple is dumb, a mega company this size would have done extensive research on this type of thing before releasing a milestone device like this. Apple won't get into gaming, at least not officially, let alone PC market. Apple's main strength is the existing Apple echosystem with accessories, movie/music contents and app store, plus seamless integration among their devices--they won't get that in the PC market that has lots of fragmentation with devices and apps not talking or taking advantages of each other. It is the same thing as asking Sony to release PSVR2 headset for the PC, they won't do it as they have their own ecosystem to support themselves. Your best bet for the next high-end VR headset would be from Pimax, Samsung, etc. But I think VR is on its last legs and the money is on XR. You will need some sort of XR functionality for future devices to sell.
  20. This reminds me of my first plasma TV purchase. Let’s just say that it wasn’t cheap lol.
  21. Not just the display technology. The software side seems also equally impressive. To achieve lifelike performance the headset could actually predict which onscreen options you will select based on the analysis of your eyes (pupils typically dilate before the motor function happens). So by tracking the gaze and pupillary size the headset already knows which virtual button you will press based on eye analysis and executes it at that instant. This is straight up sci fi stuff.
  22. The 3D stuff will definitely come, they just haven't bothered to show it yet. With the built-in 3D cameras alone, I expect to see an explosion of 3D instagrams, tiktoks, etc. including 3DVR documentaries of people's daily life or travels or even podcasts from your favorite youtubers. The typical 2D GUI or apps that we're used to may be the thing of the past in the near future. This piece of tech alone will be splendid in the medical field where you can record real-time surgical procedures (with patient's consent) or rare medical conditions in 3DVR for medical students/residents/fellows to watch and absorb.
  23. Thanks for the miz, will check it out. The ground textures are a bit lacking up close and buildings look more of the same (way too many satellite dishes in some areas), but overall a beautiful map.
