Virtual VFA-195 of JTF-191 is looking for active hornet pilots!

We are a North American based DCS F/A-18C squadron conducting mostly PvE missions. We fly Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays at 2030 EST with each session lasting 2 to 3 hours.

VFA-195’s “mil-sim-o-meter” would be ranked in the middle of the road. We enjoy an immersive experience without rigid military protocols & procedures. We’re all about pushing the Hornet to its limits and testing creative tactical solutions—what we like to call ‘tacticology.’

Saturdays are reserved for JTF-wide campaign missions where multiple airframes are involved with executing multiple tasking orders. Much of our mission content is created in-house, however we also utilize mission generation applications such as briefing room and liberation/retribution.

    Requirements:

    • 18 years or older

    • Team-oriented with a positive attitude

    • HOTAS setup

    • Head tracking or VR

    • Simple Radio Standalone (SRS)

    • Additional maps: Persian Gulf, Syria, Sinai (with more to come in the future)

    • Solid working knowledge of the F/A-18C (comfortable and efficient, no need to be an expert)

      • Basic understanding of situational awareness (SA) and navigation using the HSI

      • Air-to-air refueling proficiency

      • Case I departure and recovery

    • Willingness to fly with the squadron on a regular basis (real life always comes first)

More information about VFA-195 and JTF-191, including is on our website http://jtf191.com. Click join to start the adventure!

  2. Someone reacted to my post, and it should be known that all of this is now possible!

1.) Either make, or find a user mission that has the layout of objects you want.

2.) Use the new select tool in mission editor to select the group you want.

3.) Copy selected group to clip board.

4.) Load your mission of interest.

5.) Paste the selected group and move them around as a group to your liking.

I did this with someone's marvelous outpost and it worked like a charm!

  3. A-10C and F-16C: Point track moving target with TGP, slave AGM-65 to point. Easy!

F-18C: Point track moving target, slave AGM-65 to point and then learn the point is no longer valid because the moving target is no longer where it was when you initiated track with TGP. I have a hard time believing this is correct modeling!

  4. Our online group keeps the fun alive in the hornet, and other airframes to boot.

We do so by having a bunch of challenging scenarios where there are clear objectives, random threat environments, and no defined path (waypoints). Each time we roll one, we select a mate to be the “mission planner” to make the tactical calls. This  would involve how many of us are tasked with strike, tarcap, sead, etc. What direction of approach, sequence and timing etc. etc.

After the mission is over, we share tacview replay on discord and try to find what went well and what didn’t.

We’ve been doing this 3X per week for years and it’s not getting old yet.

While we wait two more weeks for ED dynamic campaign, I recommend finding a group that you enjoy flying with to keep the romance going.

@evilnate @Lasko @TobiasA - do you think it can happen on server startup and first mission load as well, or only when the next mission is loaded to a running server with attached clients?

It sounds hard to reproduce, but an important issue to track down and squash.

Could only reproduce when clients are on a server while a different mission is loaded, and then load the desired mission while they are connected.

  6. We hosted a new liberation campaign, and ~14 seconds after the mission starts about 90% of units disappear.

About the same time some clients said their aircraft blew up. I am unable to reproduce this problem, but we have the track file.

Does anyone see any clues how this happened? The units that went missing were not found as dead, but it ruined the mission experience.
