  1. if there is no hot start failure option in the mission editor, then hot starts are not modelled. i have phutzed the start process every way possible, and have only had a failure to start - no meltdowns...
  2. this is totally awesome. thank you so much for sharing this. i will check out the War Hawks site so more...
  3. the 1066MHz spec indicates how much data the chip can pass over a given period of time. 1066MHz chips can pass twice as much data per second as the older/slower 833MHz chips. cheers...
  4. thank you everyone for submitting your opinions. just to be clear: this was not an attempt to state what ED should work on next, but rather a rotory wing opinion poll since there was only a fixed wing poll that i could see. at any rate, ED apparently knows its target audience well. i believe that the Apache will be the next heli addition to DCS - the poll shows that is what people want next, it seems. after that the next heli addition may very well be the Hind, ya? cheers...
  5. RL pilots always use checklists to be sure nothing is forgotten. if not using the easy-start hotkey, then only repeated practice of going through the entire checklist until memorized will do. basically get elec power running, turn on fuel pumps and boosters, start APU, start engines, turn everything else on, wait until ABIS and INU are fully running. cannot think of any other solution. gl...
  6. i have solved this same prob with my CH Pedals; may work for you too. under the keyboard/joystickck assignments, i set only one pedal to be the wheel brake - setting both caused probs for me. under the axis assignments there is a button on the lower right for axis fine tune. use that to select inverted, and set a deadzone so that the brake is not applied when you press the pedal just a little bit. setting the axis as slider did not work for me. gl...
  7. thanks for the SeaKing correction. ya. only the SH birds come in the 70 series. my bad...
  8. yes. i saw that one, and it seemed to be just as the title had said - which one next. i did not mean to step on any toes with my poll. kind regards...
  9. darn. did not think of that option, but you can pick as many of those listed as you wish. will keep the 'all of the above' option in mind for next time. thanks...
  10. good question. i listed the airframes that are armored attack helicopter types. if i included all 'combat' airframes, then everything from the SH-3 (seasprite?) to the UH-70 Blackhawk to the AH-7 Lynx would have been included since those airframes are kitted with light missiles and/or guns, and sent into the fray. cheers...
  11. many fans here seem to be on the fixed wing side. i see that there are many helicopter fans here, but no poll for helis. so, here it is. i listed those that are full-time combat birds. i would like to see an Apache or Longbow, but also like the idea of a Mangusta or Tiger. thanks for coming... *edit: you can vote for more than one.
  12. i have read elsewhere that wingmen will not rearm but have not seen it myself yet. i believe that Weta43 is referring to the payload option in the mission editor where you set what loadout the wingmen have (as well as yourself). cheers...
  13. hmm. set the AI level to the highest, then they waited longer before rolling out. ordering them to hold made them wait at the first WP. seems the procedure is working. thanks all for the input...
  14. at least in the military groups that i have had friends in, the ground crew does not start the aircraft for the pilots in combat situations, that i have heard of. however, there are sometimes flight crews on standby ready to go, but usually the sorties are planned out and pilots head to their birds at the appointed time.
  15. that is a darned good question. hope someone can answer...
  16. anti-ice systems should be turned on in icing conditions. that way ice should build up very little or not at all, depending on conditions. this is theory that that i have - i have never flown a real aircraft into icing conditions. cheers...
  17. um. to the OP's original question, i would say 'possibly'. there has been quite a bit of input from RW piolts with sim experience. i wonder how many ppl fly BS ( or any other sim) with failures turned on. Zorrin seems to be someone up to that challenge. my RW-vs-sim experience has been only with bikes and cars. no, sims (at best) can only come close to preparing you for RW. even still, since there is the heavy penalty of crashing into the ground, flying is much less forgiving of gross miscalculations. my RW friend would beat the pants off me in racing sims time and again. we went out to the twisties for a romp and he threw his ride down the road. go figure. did sim expertise make him a better driver? apparently not. but i am certain there are a good number of people who have a natural knack for flying that would surprise many experienced pilots. just saying...
  18. yes. i read the GUI manual, and have a flight of 3. gave them different pilot names, ID's and callsigns. perhaps i should set their AI to a higher level so that they will behave better? does asking ATC for permission to start engines give them the cue to do the same? mbe that is why they start and go? seems unusual to have to order them to hold just after i hear them on the radio saying that they are rolling. but if i am on the ground crew channel, i may not hear them, and miss the opportunity to give them the hold command. i will play around with it some more tomorrow. thanks for the input...
  19. it is a mission that i created to get familiar with things without being shot at. yes, i am certain that they are in my flight. thanks...
  20. i am still geting familiar with BS before actually trying missions. while i am doing my start up procedures, the wingmen start up and roll for the runway. by the time i got to the runway, i heard ATC give landing clearance for Two. he landed and would not take off again even though he responded over the radio to my command to rejoin. any way to get the wingmen to takeoff again after they have landed? thanks...
  21. since i had such problems with the trimming and A/P functions, i actually do the control hover. if i ask ATC for permission for engine start, it seems that i must use all the Tower sub-menu functions in sequence in order to get the following function to work - no takeoff clearance if i did not do the hover check. cheers...
  22. i have printed out the manul except for sections1 and some of section9. so i can refer to it while in the sim doing my non-combat mission which allows me to practice as long as i like without being shot at. slow going, but i like a challenge. cheers...
  23. if i understand the OP corectly, then i have the same prob, and am taking longer to learn my way around the cockpit. Problem: while the manual has explanations for everything with english translations for all the switches and indicators, the pictures only show the russian cyrilic writing. so, if you are looking at a pic, you end up reading through all the following text until you find the the translation for the switch that you would have seen immediately if the pic had english writing. it is frustrating at times because so much time is spent re-reading text repeatedly. cheers...
