Not such a good picture, but better formation. Flying at Duxford this year in formation with an F-15 Date is wrong! It was in September. Jim

TFC has recently acquired Miss Velma, a two seat TF-51D (we are forming an orderly queue for a check ride!). At the Gathering of Mustangs, our other P-51, Twilight Tear flew in formation with a Raptor (Mustang at the top of the picture). Though we got a good look at the Raptor close up in flight, this does not necessarily imply that there will be a DCS module for the Raptor! TekaTeka is absolutely correct. US/NATO pilots fly in knots and nautical miles. However on the ground, army units work in kms and metres. So if the pilot is an AFAC, or being controlled by a FAC, it is useful to have a m indication.

We have tested Black Shark with this configuration. http://www.rcsimulations.com/index2.html do a search on Copycat long shaft It works very well. For a collective you need a long throw for precise control. For testing I use a standard CH throttle with control reversed (i.e. towards you gives more lift). It works fine, is acceptable, but is a revelation when you use a long throw collective! Jim

Not certain if 1st April is celebrated the same way in all countries? In the UK, it is sometimes celebrated by doing an "April Fool's Joke". This is an inaccurate story told as a joke, often in newspapers, sometimes on TV. Possibly one of the most celebrated UK April Fool's joke was a TV documentary many many years ago on spaghetti trees and how to harvest spaghetti! This was before pasta became popular in the UK (we ate meat and veg then), and a lot of people were fooled! Anyway, this video is an excellent April Fool's joke in line with tradition! Jim

Buildings Just done a test with Black Shark. M1 Tank firing at range of 100m at a 10 storey block of flats. It took 9 rounds for the building to be destroyed. So I think that gives enough time for a Ka-50 to use the building for cover before moving on. Also, recent experience in counter-insurgency indicates that it is not a good idea to stay in the hover, but move and jink. Jim

The Black Shark manual is being prepared and is currently an "active" document as new features are added and implemented. It will be larger than the Flaming Cliffs manual as the Ka-50 can be flown as a study sim (starting on ramp), or from the take-off point, if you do not want to go through the extensive procedures for a cold start (see videos). On professional military and civilian simulations, fps is set at 60 fps. Software is designed to degrade graphics (textures etc) if fps starts to drop below 60, so that 60 fps can be continued.
