For the sake of chronological consistency, will the USN CVN air wing be updated to reflect the unfortunate fact that the F-14 was retired before the A-10C took to the air, and has since been replaced by both F/A-18E and F model Super Hornets? Wouldn't mind seeing some attention to the USMC MEU(SOC) as well, since the probability of an engagement by US ground forces in the theater of ops in discussion, would all but most likely come from US Marines. Update the CH-53E model, and give us some CH-46E's, MV-22's, AH-1W's, UH-1N's, LCAC's, LHD's (I'd recommend LHD-3 from my personal perspective,) LPD's, LSD's, LAV-25's, and maybe even some MRAP's to go with those AAV7 and M-1's. Wouldn't mind seeing some USMC F/A-18D's from their AW squadrons, too. Come on Wags, you know what I'm talking about! Semper Fi.

If you want to get really accurate, don't forget about the main purpose of the CVN - it's Air Wing. First of all, by the time the first A-10C ever took to the air, the Navy had unfortunately retired their last F-14 Tomcat, (prematurely, I know.) The only F-14's left flying in the air from then on and at the same time period as an A-10C, are from Iran. If the final release candidate comes with USN F-14's and not F/A-18E/F's, it sure is going to stick out like big sore thumb to all those particularly interested in the levels of detail that DCS: A-10C goes into. Last November, CVW-17 embarked upon the Vinson and it's comprised of the following: VFA-22 - F/A-18F Super Hornets VFA-25 - F/A-18C Hornets VFA-81 - F/A-18E Super Hornets VFA-113 - F/A-18C Hornets VAW-125 - E-2C Hawkeye (E-2D's are coming online, and even C models are being upgraded with eight bladed props) VAQ-134 - EA-6B Prowler (soon to be retired for EA-18G's) VRC-40 - C-2A Greyhounds HS-15 - SH-60F/HH-60H Great hi-rez photo of the main island while on recent ops (2010) supporting Haiti... http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/dd/US_Navy_100115-N-4774B-898_The_Nimitz-class_aircraft_carrier_USS_Carl_Vinson_%28CVN_70%29_shown_operating_off_the_coast_of_Haiti.jpg

These are screens for Aerosoft FSX pics, but still something of a nice goal to shoot for in DCS: A-10, right?! http://www.aerosoft.de/_php_projekte/_php_screenshots/screenshots.php?sp=fsx&p=lasvegas

Will the aircraft encyclopedia be appropriately updated for DCS: A-10C? If the first A-10C took to the skies in January of 2005, than shouldn't the theater of operations and in particular, the aircraft in it be appropriately rendered, as well? For example, long gone are F-14A's and even the last F-14D's, as much as I love them and believe they were retired too early. were taken out of the fleet in 2007 in favor of the F/A-18E and F Super Hornets, which aren't even modeled. No more S-3B Vikings, either. What about more modern Blackhawk helicopters for the Army, I don't think the Guard even uses any A models anymore. Also, and Wags knows what I'm talking about here - where is the Marine Air Wing and in particular, the Amphibious Readiness Group, or ARG? No LHD/A's or LPD's? No CH-46E's which up until recently, were the bulk of Marine Aviation? No V-22's for either the Marines or the Air Force? The entire East Coast Medium Lift community has now completely transitioned over to the Osprey now, (for better or worse.) Depending upon that time frame that DCS: A-10C is going for, you might even want to render the H-1 upgrades, AH-1Z and UH-1Y's. While it is of my personal opinion that the next DCS series should entail the ARG's role in the world because, as in particular should a US involvement in the region rendered ever happen, it almost assuredly would be with a Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
BigVette replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
I like a two seat fighter/attack aircraft, such as an F-15E/K, F-14D, Tornado, or perhaps the best of all things combined, an F/A-18F! A lot of interesting details to be worked out with a two person crew, but very intriguing, nonetheless. -
Will the Beta use up one of my activations?
BigVette replied to WarriorX's topic in DCS: A-10C Warthog
I dunno, my motherboard died on me last week and I just got my new rig up and running, and while I was able to keep my OS install and not have to reinstall any software, the damned authentication software said I had to drastic of a chance and required me to re-validate my install, thereby taking an install credit. I've only got like one or two installs left on Black Shark, surely I would not have to pay for an entire new license when/if I exhaust all installs? -
We had ARC-210's on our CH-46E's in the Marines, evidently going back to a FY 1994 upgrade; mostly USN/USMC but a few USAF a/c, too. http://www.janes.com/articles/Janes-Military-Communications/AN-ARC-210-V-VHF-UHF-AM-FM-transceiver-United-States.html

Next DCS (US) Fixed Wing Aircraft Wish List
BigVette replied to diecastbg's topic in DCS Core Wish List
The Mi-24 Hind seems like the most logical choice to me. I just found a couple former Bulgarian Mi-24's flying here in North Texas, and I can't believe a sim the level of the DCS Ka-50 does not already exist! There is as much history behind this aircraft as there is sheer sexy aeronautical attraction, and it's one I vividly remember growing up! The aircraft is still readily flying today even in Russia's active military, it's tried and true and there is a wealth of information readily available on it, (if you know of some Mi-24 maintenance/avionics tech pubs in English, please let me know!) You can sling ordinance or ferry combat troops, it's unique still to this day. www.cwam.org -
Mi-24 Hind Just saw a former Bulgarian Mi-24 do some high speed, low altitude flybys last weekend, and I can't believe the lack of sims dedicated to this aircraft given it's distinct place in history! It sure would be something to have an Mi-24 done to the level of detail that the DCS Ka-50! With all of the history behind the aircraft, there are a ton of possible theaters, but Afghanistan certainly sounds like a great place to start.

I had that problem upon initial install (nVidia 9800 GTX with latest drivers,) but when I re-booted it went away.

I went to college for six years when I got out of the service, but don't ask me to recite everything I ever read there! Ha! AA BS MSc (& and a self-bestowed PhD in BS!)

Me vs. M163 and it's 20mm Vulcan cannon...
BigVette replied to BigVette's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
The tactic that I have found to work the best for me is to go out over the water and establish a hover just outside of Koubaletti and let the three convoy's come to me. Besides the convoy's there are also random AAA emplacements that can sneak up on you, and even hovering over the coast still puts me too close to SAM range. When trying to get these convoys, the SAM's are up front and the AAA is in the back; at least with a SAM I usually get some notice and have a decent shot of dodging it, but with the radar-guided AAA usually the first sign I get that they are there is tracer's grazing my cockpit. I've tried the opposite and going up into the mountains and working my way down, but those convoys are not easy to find and again, the AAA is in the rear. -

Have any of you all tried this mission? There are three convoys and granted I evidently can't fly and fight in the Ka-50 very well, but damn I'm evidently not terribly effective; I get my ass handed to me every time. Often times their hiding in between trees and buildings, and I'm lucky if I even see them, even after they hit my aircraft; I mean it's not even a contest. -

BigVette replied to BigVette's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
The only reason I was within his range was when I popped up on him while looking for him within the hills and buildings; I agree, I don't try to enter into his range if I can spot him. The scan feature sounds like something I need to brush up on; just got the printed manual from Wags so that's a lot easier now. Thanks for the gouge, that's what I'm looking for. -
I'm flying the convoy mission where you have to locate the convoy and destroy it before it reaches the coast; it's a military convoy with HUMVEE SAM up front and M163 in the rear. Well, the AAA is kicking my butt - he can usually find me before I can find him, and if I want to stop, hover, and get into a urinating contest with him well, he's one every time. So I try and pop up on another attempt from a nearby hill, and I still can't get him locked up in enough time, even with my cannon, before he turns his radar guided 20mm vulcan cannon on me and shreds my beautiful coaxial rotary winged aircraft; I sure have gotten good at ejecting though. So help me out here, and I'm coming from AH-64 sims like the multiple versions of Gunshhip over the years, but there appears to be a lack of an auto-lock feature and thereby the only way I can get my "bad-guys" to focus their eyes on the target 2 clicks off my nose firing 20mm shells at me is to try and slew my optical system onto it? How else does one approach this sort of mission, where you're flying low and fast looking for the column only to come on it and need to squelch the AAA/SAM muy pronto but to no avail? When I send my wingman a few clicks off my nose to "reece" how is he finding all of these targets so well, eyeballs only? I've spent like 13 hours flight time just getting comfortable flying the Ka-50 and learning how to use it's auto-hover and such, but wow now that I'm trying to incorporate the "gunship" portion of the Ka-50 into the equation, I'm running out of eyeballs, appendages, and digits! :joystick: Any comments or suggestions greatly appreciated.

Has anyone else noticed that if you land and shut down on say the Russian carrier, your aircraft wants to stay fixed while the ship continues to move on? I had to stary back up and takeoff otherwise I would have fell off the ship! Where are my chain monkeys?! :joystick:

If you're only going to model the AH-64A because most of the current D model stuff is classified or hard to get, I still suggest the AH-1W instead since it's an old school pit akin to the AH-64A, but still used on the active front lines. US Marine Whiskey Cobra's would bring in the aspect of carrier ops and the Marine ARG, not to mention still offering more plausible scenarios considering the Marines have not even introduced it's successor in the AH-1Z into the fleet yet, and so Whiskey Cobra's will soldier on for years to come. I love the Apache going back to the days of Gunship on the Commodore 64, but I have 10x more interest in an AH-1W over an AH-64A model.

No, this is a very loud and obtrusive siren akin to an old school "red alert" whoop; I pause the sim and it goes off. Maybe this is something from my desktop, like maybe an alarm I recently set for my CPU and GPU temps? Hmmm, if it's not from the sim that's got to be it...
-
What's that annoying siren going off, seemingly annoying the crap outta me when it's already pea soup IFR and no needles? Low fuel? I've got inner fuel pumps on. It's not the master caution or rotor RPM warning, either. This is one where I'd pull the CB and shove my boot through it to get it to stop going off.

Oh wow, didn't expect that in the FAQ's - my bad! Otherwise such a great graphics engine, too!
-
I've got this funky white horizontal line while I'm on the ramp, see the attached pics. I've got the latest nVidia driver 191.07 for my GeForce 9800GTX+, is there perhaps a setting I've checked that might be making this? Thanks! :pilotfly:
-
Apaches are cool and all but the AH-1W would have been cool, too - and has been modeled far less than the Apache has. USMC use on LHD's, a mix of old and new, heck the Ka-50 is almost more advanced! Skidz kids!
-
Whoa, that was my problem. As a fixed wing PP I was well aware of the importance of trimming, but I guess I failed to realize to arm those guys all the time - before I was drunk and all over the place, now I'm touching down on mid pitch of the local soccer field. Love this sim!

Just ordered it from you via Amzon here in the states; such a deal and so much less expensive than FedEx Office even! Thanks Wags. Semper Fi
