  1. Yes, that is probably the best solution!
  2. If there is a rudder trim available on a particular aircraft. If you take gazelle for example, it does not trim the tail rotor and depending on speed or situation you need constant rudder input. This is a little bit irritating as with the PC pedals, if you have strong centering spring you need to use constant force. In a real aircraft/helicopter you might also need an input but it might be that the aerodynamic forces or control forces are actually close to zero in that deflected position as you are actually in an equilibrium.
  3. I saw that Virpil has Black Friday discount. I fly quite a bit of helis, so I would be interested to know, if there is a way to move virtually the axis center preferably with shortcut keys. I am looking for rudder pedals and it would be nice take the load off from rudder axis, if the centering spring is too powerful.
  4. I just chatted with a friend of mine and somehow we came to controllers. I then had a look at Virpil and WinWing for rudder pedals and I noticed that they have both Black Friday sales. Now I myself got an itch and I need to scratch. I am currently using self made pedals with a HAL and brakes using a weight sensor. The rudder axis is good, brakes suck. But what I have learnt, is that since I fly heli quite some bit I remove my centering mechanism and quite like it that way. I do not like too clunky centering anyway (I used to have Simped pedals that were really high-tech at the time, but they had way too aggressive centering without compromises). So I would like to hear about pros and cons if somebody had a chance to test both and why one should prefer one or another. Another detail would be the software. I would not mind if the software would actually allow adjusting the "virtual" center of the rudder axis. If there is a spring, it would not be too bad to use software to take the load off by having a "virtual" rudder trim...If this is then doable with shortcut keys I would be happy.
  5. I thought that foveated rendering was supposed to take the load off and enhance the clarity in the sweet spot. It is just another thing, like I said I am talking about the headset for my son. I myself have Varjo Aero and use the foveated rendering all the time, but I upgraded my PC again after giving him my HP and getting Varjo - Varjo did run initially though, but I still used it as a mental excuse and upgraded the hardware anyway (not the GPU though...) Another thing, though. I have a friend who is curious about kicking the tires on VR. A fellow flight simmer, but not on DCS. I just saw a review of Oculus 3S and I figured that for some 330 EUR it might be a good place to start. I assume here, for example that the memory option of 128 GB or something is for the internal meta games and do not influence the performance in PC play in any manner? Also another thing, I think he has an ok laptop and this is a point where I get a little bit unsure. Does anybody actually use laptop, even a heavy duty gaming laptop for flight sims and VR? Couple of years ago I would have instantly said no way, but now I am not so sure.
  6. Thanks, just the one open question though. Is Quest 3 or Quest Pro the only viable options here? Pico 4 or so not to be recommended? Well, at least with Oculus you should have rather good combability with the games, I suppose. If game developer starts integrating a VR interface, most likely the Oculus is the go-to VR-headset?
  7. So one should rather look at Quest Pro than Quest 3? From the little I read, the Quest 3 has a slightly better resolution and stuff? G2 is doing just a great job, no complaints about the picture or the sweet spot, I am not sure if there one can expect a real step change from the other available headsets when it comes to picture quality. I think the resolution path is done and I am trying to figure out if there is some other criteria to justify an upgrade - wireless would be one feature that might actually be nice for my son as he also plays other games, not just DCS like me. I just sit in front of my computer, I don't need the controllers or any other gimmicks. Cable or not, does not really rock my boat
  8. I gave my old Reverb G2 to my son and he's playing with VR. Now, since there is this talk about Microsoft pulling the plug on Windows Mixed Reality, he started speculating, whether it might make more sense to sell the Reverb in ebay and get a replacement. At this moment, also considering the games that he plays we were talking about the wireless solutions, Pico 4 or Quest 3. How is actually the performance without the cable, is it playable, can somebody throw in some numbers? Then the next question would be, how is the quality in comparison to Reverb G2 - I think some folks have switched from G2 to Quest - was it a good idea or a downgrade? We are on the fence here, from what I understood WMR might go on working if it is installed on the system and maybe somebody will provide a solution, but be as it may I would really appreciate a take on the wireless headset's performance. Is there something that you need to buy to get, for example a Quest 3 to run with wire? Is it just a USB-C cable (which would be way less bulky than DP+USB cable of Reverb). Is it a standard cable, that you could look for any given replacement in amazon to get some range? I would like to keep an open mind here, but I think Oculus might have a better compability than Pico 4?
  9. Yes, indeed. But as an exception to good rule, I don't need permission, I am simply lacking funds and before I go on with it I would like to know if I can get two different types of headsets to work more or less simultaneously on my PC without the system getting confused with them. If it leads to a hassle where I need to plug things in and out and reconfigure room or whatnot the idea is bonked and the stuff ends up collecting dust and then the money is simply out of the window. A more likely scenario might be to swallow my frustrations and wait for the next headset that tops Varjo, but is maybe a bit more mainstream. I would be equally happy if Varjo announced intention of staying on the consumer market as it might get game developers more engaged to bother with the combability.
  10. Yes, it is just very varied, in the beginning I and couple of recent owners had issues with DCS too, whereas some guys that had a bit older Aeros did not, but they got solved with time, with consecutive patches. If one takes EA WRC I have not really read about anybody having any success with the latest patch of the game. Earlier some guys had it working with Varjo Aero by rolling back Varjo base, but since the latest update of the game (0.19) everybody seems to be sh!t out of luck. I also have a feeling that my issues might actually be sound related...couple of days ago when I launched Asetto Corsa Competizione, I had a faultless gaming session, but this time I used my earphones directly over bluetooth and not like I usually do, plugging them on the Varjo Headset using a small audio cable. The hang-ups I have had, really resemble rather something coming from sounds, as it always occurs with some voice overs at the beginning of the race, but I need to do more testing...
  11. The thing is that there is more expertise about VR in this very forum. It's been longer around in DCS as in racing and I am pretty sure there are others around that do both - Varjo and specifically Aero more or less started from this very place - initially Varjo was only targeting professional applications and then DCS players started experimenting with Varjo headsets and it resulted in Varjo Aero which was then a cheaper more for consumer market targeted product. You could say that without DCS community, Varjo would not probably had any entry in gaming. Varjo Aero has its own specific OpenXR and has its own way of running SteamVR, so it is a headset that has its own challenges in situations where other cheaper more mass market headsets work. I have to say that EA generally botched the whole VR with WRC.
  12. I recently built a sim pit for racing games, I got all the bells and whistles, fanatec pedals and wheel and stuff. Now the real problem became with the realization that the VR support for racing games generally really suck. I have Varjo Aero and I use it for DCS and I simply love it. With later updates of Varjo base I have got rid of the headset not found or disconnected issues and I do not want to spend my time changing versions of base or anything like that it just simply feels stupid for such an expensive headset. Now Varjo works great with Project Cars 2, but I get pretty often crashes with Asetto Corsa Competizione (usually when a race is about to begin, when I sit in the car and wait for the go). Same thing with F1 2024 it often starts but it just crashes the same way. I can't get the EA WRC to start at all and I would love to but I will not buy the 2024 update unless the bloody thing starts working. Dirt Rally 2.0 is ok, but somehow it does not captivate me. I am now speculating if it would be a solution to get another headset - more mainstream kind - for racing. Maybe something like Quest 3, although I greatly dislike Zuckerberg and what he did to Oculus. I gave my old HP Reverb G2 to my son and I am not that keen on plugging it off from his PC and plugging it in again on mine and I would not really mind to have something without cables. (I am also not sure about SteamVR getting confused with Windows Virtual Reality Headsets and Varjo - although Varjo somehow launches its own SteamVR) I also would not like to plug the stuff in or off and get the headsets conflicting with each other and stuff like that. I have no intention of replacing my Varjo for now as it is doing a great job with DCS, which is my main use case for all this. Any thoughts on this, does anybody have any experience running multiple headsets on one PC?
  13. Well, I discovered that you can go in Varjo Base to System Tab and Activate "Override origin and direction". That more or less does the trick. It sets the headset on the "floor" but you can give a height below the button and then the eye level is elevated. It does more less exactly what I was looking for.
  14. Actually it is not directly a problem with DCS, but I reckon some people having a simpit might have this problem and maybe a solution. I have Varjo Aero and while playing DCS I sit in front of my PC, quite close to the monitor, so this is sort of my seating position also for the VR. Now I built a pit for racing sims and maybe one day I will also implement my flight sim controllers into the pit. The problem here is that it is couple of meters away from my PC and now when I put on my headset I can barely read the stuff on my windows desktop. I would not want to recalibrate or something everytime I go to the rig, so I was sort of wondering if there is a way to adjust my position accordingly. Once any game starts I am of course sitting normally centered in the car or aircraft cockpit, this is only the issue when messing around with windows desktop before launching the game... Does anybody have this issue or even better a solution?
  15. I am on 2.9.7.59263
  16. I am holding on WP4 and I get a message from spear69 that he's winchester and RTB. After awhile a message bombs away and so on, but I never get a push message and when I had a look at target area I see no convoys and so on..
  17. It's not really a problem to destroy the AAA on the dam, but after that I do not know what to destroy, the task force Zeus gets obliterated. I mean there are quite a few AAAs around and the load-out is only 2 Mavs and 4 MK-82s and nobody else seems to be doing anything. Is there targets one should prioritize or should one just go full bore and load the plane up to the ears with GBU-12s and bomb anything that moves? I would spend more time with this one, but with Air2Air Refueling it is a bit tedious mission to iterate around until success..
  18. Oh, I was probably blocked by mountains
  19. I was on the "Norseman" frequency and got nothing from JTAC, did I miss some instructions to switch frequency or is the given frequency wrong. My radios were on and until that it went just fine...so I do not quite get it. I also checked the message history and saw nothing about going for some other freq...
  20. I had the same grievances with the non-attacking wingman, but I think that it came because I got the "Abort, Abort" - nothing to do with VA.
  21. I am playing Hormuz Freedom campaign and for some reason they provide mixed loadouts with IR and Laser Mavs. Now, if I start my stand-off attack with TPOD and laser Mav, everything works kind of fine. I also see the Laser Mav display on the MFD with the laser code in the middle. If I start my attack run with IR Mav, I do not seem to get the Laser Mav to uncage after that. I search a target with TPOD (and has it again as designating sensor) and put it to armed and laser and fire and...If I have Laser Mav selected and press Cage/Uncage the normal seeker target on HUD is not coming up and scanning and I get no lock. Yesterday, I was fumbling around, bombed with GBU-12s in between and what not and all the time in between I tried to get the Laser Mav to lock. When I activated the gun it suddenly locked again. So it seems like a bug to me. I mentioned the Mav display on MFD, because I could not see it anymore after going around the stores, just that one time in the beginning...
  22. When doing multiple attacks, let's say with GBU-12. If I make the first run, I switch the pod to "armed", "laser" and "fire". Now, seems to be that after some time, the pod goes automatically to "safe" and stops firing. Whereas I can relate why it does not go on lasing forever, I am baffled why it goes to safe. I have had now multiple times, that I make the second run and it is armed and firing and then shortly before I release, or after I release it goes to safe (due to the timeout, or whatever) - what is the "right" way to do things. Manually switch of fire after the hit? Can I then avoid the TPOD going "safe"? Are there some hotas keys for firing or is it just the OSBs?
  23. 299 $ is a bit salty price tag for my presumed needs ...
  24. Every now and then I have a moment that I miss VR Controllers. Also I would like to test couple of other games in VR. So the question is, what is the easiest way to get controllers for Varjo Aero? I saw that there is some - I think Steam application - that emulates Vive controllers, but I think it may not work as, for example DCS does not start SteamVR. The software also costs about 20$ so I do not want to give away that money for nothing. It claims to be able to emulate handcontrollers with two mouse or xbox controller, so basically I might be interested, just do not know if it is of any use with Varjo
  25. I don't really think that the cableless stuff is without performance hit, additionally, I would be loath to recommend anything from Zuckerberg, I am still sour how he shot down the Oculus development, if Oculus would have pursued Santa Fe, it might be that we would have had foveated rendering and depth focus already earlier. But that is besides the point, the headset is maybe a secondary question, I think the selection of a good GPU is where I would appreciate some tips.
