So...a further bit of non scientific playing. Have attached my DCS graphics settings (pd 1.0) 9900k all at 5.0Ghz 3090Fe 32Gb of ram SS 150% persian gulf. Free flight. flew up to Dubai center and flew low and fast doing silly fun things around buildings. 90hz, motion smoothing enabled, throttling auto - ran great. No noticeable blurring of buildings as I went past. No stutters. hoggit - GAW server super carrier spawn (hornet) only me on deck 90hz smoothing enabled, throttling auto. good until I looked at the superstructure then the frame times in the steam developer tab started having big red spikes Changed the throttling to fixed at 30fps and perfect. Smooth as butter. Rarely remember dcs looking this good and being this smooth. tried a quick airfield spawn in the tomcat. Still throttling at 30fps. Only 2 other players around. It was snowing! Looked fantastic. No blurring / ghosting of runway markings on takeoff I know this is all a bit wishy washy testing but I’m sold. Needs some more testing in multiplayer but very happy.

I think I was running 80hz locked to 40fps with SS 150% but with my settings up pretty high. I’ll check my settings tomorrow and report back. Supmua - has commented on another valve index thread about the benefits. Their posts historically have seemed a bit more methodical than my Mk I eyeball test so may be worth following.

There are good rumblings coming from the other flight sim community. Pg 263 https://forums.flightsimulator.com/t/my-2070-super-vr-settings-and-suggestions-index-steamvr/321913/371 it worked a treat for me around Manhattan. DCS - I tried it very quickly earlier. The eye test says I saw improvements even after I upped the settings a bit. Tried F18 Caucasus free flight. Low and fast looking sideways out the cockpit over the town. Then Some faffing around on the super carrier Have done nothing to quantify this though.

So...didn’t do any real testing but has made all the difference to me so just enjoyed playing. Now running at 90hz 150SS msaa x2 Af x4, textures high, trees and grass up, shadows low. - this is online. Had some ghosting and stutters low down but nothing that ruins things. Overall very happy and certainly won’t have to touch my pc for a few years now. Once you iron out the kinks the index is a brilliant experience. Also no more disconnects.

Parts are in the machine and after much faffing all up and running. Will run some dcs tests over the weekend. Also - If valve have got rid of the USB disconnect issue with an update that would be amazing!

I think it’s 3.2 standard. 4.2 turbo to all cores. 1 core turbo boost to 4.6. Load through task manager seems to sit at happily at 4.2. Just feels like for a not too bad setup I’m struggling along at 80hz even after a lot of tinkering.

I guess that’s the question really. Will moving away from the 8700 that I can’t overclock give me an actual noticeable improvement. Be it 8700k or 9900k.

Interesting. Guessing you’ve got a decent Overclock on the 8700k though. No such option with my non k unfortunately. Just not sure how much that is costing me performance wise.

Hello all. Have been watching all the tweaking of setting with interest. The index is great but I just can t get it to quite where I want it graphical with dcs. Running 80hz with steam ss at 106%. PD1.0 Shadows flat or off. Msaa x2 AF x8 Textures high. Grass off. Tress midway and preload full. Nvidia settings same as Naruto posted a few pages back Using fpsVR at 80hz both gpu and cpu are in the orange and around 18ms, 40 frames. Any higher and they’re both up in the red and the experience is awful Considering a chip and motherboard upgrade to a 9900k? Will that unleash a decent potential gain?
