Wait....seriously!!!???!!! The HUD doesn't show airspeed????
Delta59R replied to gmelinite's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Very cool, yeah I edited my post to show a second test with the map temp set to 38c vs -12.5c with the first, Mach 2.0 went up 50knots at the higher map temp. Thanks -

Delta59R replied to gmelinite's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
I took the F14 up to 35k and did mach 2.0, looked and the map speed it was at ~1150. Calculated for temp it would have to be -70F... burr, is that correct? Edit: The above was a map temp set at -12.5c, I tested again with a map temp set at 38c and mach 2.0 at 35k was at about ~1200 map speed. -

I think of it like mach gives you true ground speed and IAS give you true lift info -

Delta59R replied to gmelinite's topic in DCS: F-14A & B
Ahhh ok ok got it, thanks, Well the Mach number is a bit bigger, I use VR and the res is not so great, so the bigger mach numbers are easier to glance at in a dogfight and I would say more relevant as it factors in alt/pres EDIT: rethinking it the KIAS is more important bc of lift. -

Yes Agreed -

I'm confused by you statement, isn't the dial set up in mach as in .6 , .5, .4 etc? So 325kn = ~ mach.5. I notice keeping it between mach .6 and .4 is the sweet spot. Also what do you mean by "3 needle widths"? -

This probably doesn't help much but interestingly I think I found a digital readout for the indicated air speed on the HSD, just flip the mode switch down and you will see it just left of the stick. -
Let me setup a for example scenario, practicing BVR with F-16 AI. 4xphoenix, 4xaim9s. Jester notifies me of bogy contact, I tell him to lock on, we get lock at 70 miles out. I launch a Phoenix at 30 miles out and shortly after the F-16 goes evasive. OK this is where I head scratch- I lose radar contact at say around 20 miles out from evasive maneuvers but a quick switch to SW shows him locked up??… switch back to PH nothing....., switch back to SW got lock, what's going on here? Thanks
-
Yeah! when I noticed the jet wash trimmer from the phoenix launch out front of me...WOW, or going supersonic AKA Ballistic at low altitudes, stick shake matches cabin shake :D
-
Well that was quick, FF is working awesome! :)
-
HaHa! nice! you guys crack me up, just cant come out and say it, make people work for it! (Left Shift-M) :)
-
Hmm, how do you use it? Searching "tape" in the manual and controls turned up nothing.
-
What Easter eggs have you found? One I found is if you go against a black F-5 (not sure if color matters) you will get "28" on RWR. Also heard rumor of music that will play if a certain button/s is pushed but haven't found that one yet.

[RESOLVED] FFB-suggestions for future implementation
Delta59R replied to birdstrike's topic in Bugs and Problems
Yes this, I agree with the OP also! -
Hello I would like to add my name to the list of people very much looking forward to the implementation of FF for the F-14B as I too have a MSFF2. Its a must for me TBO. Thanks
-
Ok just figured it out, for those who dont know, go to your steam library, right click DCS, Properties and allow open beta content. I was thinking a secondary 60+gb install was needed but thats not the case.
-
Ahh yeah, Beta. I'm now curious how long the F18 stayed in beta, anyone know? Thanks!
-
Hello, just curious when I should expect the F14B to show up in the mission editor? I would like to add those slots to a MP server. I am using the Steam version. Thanks
-
Is there a/what's the easiest way to keep it daylight all the time in mission editor/multiplayer server? Thanks!
-
Ok I found another option, its called a "Mobile Ground Crew" but it only works for the Viggen.
-
So after testing I think you are right, and I think what I was seeing was the seeker hit the top of the HUD FOV even thought from my prospective (low in the seat) it looked to be center and was not. Thanks!
-
Hmm, I cant say that that isn't one reason for it but in the scenarios I am curios about the target is close (but not too close) and nice n center.
