  1. The Super Hornet has it. Not so much on the older As and Cs.
  2. Procedurally, yeah. The sim seemed to do everything the jet does. Might need to find someone to put the ladder up for you though. :smilewink:
  3. Standard answer - it depends. It's set by the flightlead. Sometimes it's callsign (11/74X and 13/76X). Sometimes it's fragged. Sometimes it's just random. I haven't seen 29 and 92 set that often though. If ever.
  4. Pick two channels 63 apart. I chose 6 and 69 in the video for laughs. Pick X or Y. Select A/A. Box TCN. Should come up as a range to the other guy/gal (no azimuth or elevation info).
  5. Not really "see" per se, but it gives you ranging which is what you need for stationkeeping and for BFM setups. The numbers have to be 63 apart. Thus my math in public "69X and 06X." you could also use Y, which is a common technique for a four-ship (division in Navy speak). Have the same codes but 1/3 use X and 2/4 use Y so that you can easily flip flop between each other. It's N/A with MIDS for the most part. I flew a non-MIDS A+, so air to air tacan was life.
  6. We used TrackIR extensively at first. I didn't like it. For this part of the video (multiplayer), I didn't use it. We had about 2 hours worth of footage and I paired it down for entertainment purposes. This was meant to be a fun video and never intended to be a no kidding side by side detailed comparison.
  7. You set local altimeter on the ground (or ship) with RADALT to the HUD. Local going to and from the airspace, except above 180, then 29.92. Most airspace I've flown in used local, however some MOAs use 29.92 (Compass Lake near KPAM, for example). "It depends" would be the answer on that. Switching altimeter settings is typically part of the "FENCE" check. I've never set field elevation using the altimeter. Always what ATIS or Ground gives you.
  8. First off, thank you to everyone that donated. I'm honored to have such a following and happy that we were able to support such a worthy cause. With that said... You're absolutely right. I can't. No one can. I don't intend to. This video is for fun. It is not going to be a serious comparison of a PC flight simulator to the real airplane. In part, because you're absolutely right. No sim - not even the multi-million dollar simulators that we have at the squadrons - can accurately replicate the jet 100%. There are always "sim-isms" and the lack of feel is a huge factor. In fact, I'd bet that if you asked most pilots, they'd tell you at least 60% of the job is done through sensations no simulator can replicate. Whether it's wind noise, the buzz off the LEXes when you're over 4 bills, G-forces, energy states, etc. There's a lot of very important information that you learn just by the feel of the aircraft. The other part is that this is not a simulator. The controls will be different. The pilot-vehicle interface (PVI) will be different. It's not like jumping in the jet or sim after a two year hiatus (which in and of itself would be a challenge). And that's totally fine! It was a fun way to encourage people to support real victims (fighter pilots) of Hurricane Michael (that still need help, btw.) I'm looking forward to the chance to try it out and I'm sure hilarity will ensue when it becomes a "fish out of water" video. Thanks for watching, and I hope you'll all enjoy it no matter how it turns out.
  9. Hi everyone, Just wanted to thank you all for contributing to this worthy cause and for your support of the channel. Special thanks to Bananimal for getting the word out and for allowing me to use his simulator in the coming weeks. We reached our goal in less than a week, so it's definitely going to happen! I'd ask everyone to please be patient. As Bananimal mentioned, we probably won't be able to film it until later this month, so the video may not be until the first Monday in December. We definitely don't want to rush things to ensure quality. Thanks again! Looking forward to trying it out! -Mover
