Question, are you starting the helo up from cold ? Also, are you using the "easy" button for start up (Left-WIN-Home). If so, you need to wait AT LEAST 3 min after start for the INU to allign. I have found that when you see all 3 autopilots flashing on and off, it means the INU is not aligned and the autopilots wont work. There is a big thread on the forum dealing with this auto pilot issue AND the easy start up/shut down key (and its problems). Hope this helps

a mixed bag of newbie questions
FADM Stern GNSF replied to GuntiNDDS's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I am not an expert, but I can try to answer a couple from experience. 1 a and b, Im sure the development team can answer. 2b - The X52 Pro (I use it) will require a profile to map all the different function to each game it connects to. The cyclick (joystick part) and collective (the throttle part) thenselves will work and require no programing out of the box (also the trigger is the same). The X52 has a lot more buttons, but they must be programed how the USER wants them. There are profiles people have made for BS (i got one from this forum and added a bit myself), or you can do it the way YOU want it. I guess thats the price of flexibility :-) 3 My system is very similar to yours, with the same processor. I have yet to experience any problems running the game. As for the USB, I have 6 USB ports used on mine and am running a 580W power supply. I have never had an overheat problem, and have yet to see the case fan come on for more that a few seconds in the summer. Hope that helps a little bit. -
Im not sure this will help, but I have found that the "auto hover" (if you are refering to the hover hold) works by marking a "spot" in space that your at when you turn it on. The autopilots will now try to get you to, and keep you at, that spot in space. So, if you're in a hover, no problem, but if your moving forward, the autopilots will try to yank the helicopter all over the place to get it back to the spot you picked. So, basically, you use this autopilot to hold you in a stable hover, but only after your helicopter is basically hovering (or at least only moving a bit). turning this on while flying fast usually leads to a nice wild bull ride lol. Hope that helps, and hope I explained it right.

As indicated, the Laser "breaking" is NOT a bug, but a fact of life. Thanks for the inout about the "chopper change" as I DID do a rearm and maybe thats why you dont get a new one (since you ask for rearm they figure you want to keep THAT one). I will try this again, as I never had any luck with the repairs :-) As for the Laser, I find it died at about 35 rangings, which sure does fall outside of the recommended cycle time. This is not a big, since the "repair" (or new chooper) will basically give you a new laser :-) As for the FARP, YES, there is a MINIMUM list of equipment that MUST be at the FARP to allow rearming/refuel and repair. There is also a radius that these must be in for it to work (max 150 m from FARP center). Its listed in the manual at page 361 (Ground Equipment Requirements) Thanks all for the help, you guys make learning this a whole lot easier :-)

Through discussions on the board, I know that the Laser is good for so many uses and then it burns out (pretty sure thats accurate from what I have read). I also read that the ground crew will repair damage to the Ka-50 which takes about 3 min. Does anyone know if the Laser is repaired/replaced by the ground crew, and if so, how long does it take. I did some testing and found I got off 45 shots before it died. I then landed at the airport and completely shut down the chopper. I waited 5 min (used a stop watch) and then powered up the plane. I then waited 5 more min (for INU to align). Well the INU seemed to be ok, as the auto pilots seemed to work, but the laser stayed dead. are there limits to what does and doesnt get repaired (damaged rotor blade for example) ? I may be doing something wrong, but from all I have tired, once your blades and/or laser are dead, thats it for that mission. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all

Reading attitude of Helo and trim
FADM Stern GNSF replied to Ramstein's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I have the same problem, not being able to see most of the HUD data. Unlike Falcon 4, its not easy to move around the cockpit without getting totally messed up (F4 has a return to front view key). So, if you make the HUD readable, you cant see the ABRIS (not that I really use that much) or the Shkval (wich does get used a lot). Most of the time I go by feel with visual cues from outside (which doesnt really work well if you are really high, but I try to stay as low as possible, as most choppers in combat would not normally be at 1000 feet [at least I know I wouldnt lol]) -
Im running dual core and tried the affinity thing, but only got a worse frame rate (running XP). Guess I will fly with what I have, which works well, and wait for 7 to come out (then add 6 months for the bug fixes lol).

Reset Trim? not an actual trim question.
FADM Stern GNSF replied to rapid's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
There has been a lot of discussion on the board regarding the trim rest, most of which is dont use it. My understanding is the trim reset returns the auto pilots to a default start state, which I have found out that in flight may send you into a nasty uncontrolable pin and pitch. I have managed to do a lot of flying without ever having to use it since (unless I get bored and am in a "let see what happens" mode, which usually results in a bucking broncho ride lol) -
Regarding the weapons when they will not launch
FADM Stern GNSF replied to Ramstein's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
I have had that happen in combat a few times. I have also been in a game with zero damage, and found I couldnt launch due to a dead laser. -
'Laser' Malfunction after RE-ARM bug - any news?
FADM Stern GNSF replied to Dropbear's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Thanks for the tip Maverick, I will give that a try :-) not to worried about the ground crew yelling, Its kind of an ammusing moment after some nailbitting battle lol. I just wish I didnt have to shut everything off, as I never have any luck with the auto start up (seems to screw up INU and my auto-pilots). I will try it, and try to remember what switches I touched so I can put them back (as not to upset the auto start lol). -
'Laser' Malfunction after RE-ARM bug - any news?
FADM Stern GNSF replied to Dropbear's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Today I had my first Laser Failure, and I know it is because I was whacking a lot of targets. I do have one question about it thought that I havent seen mentioned yet. If the Laser dies, does it stay dead for the rest of the game, or will rearming/refueling at an airport fix it? I tried landing for a rearm but the Laser stayed dead. If they do get fixed, how do you know when its done ? (When I rearm under power, they call rearming complete, but if I take off [even after 5 min] he yells at me "hey, what are you doing". Is there a way to tell them "ok, im leaving now ?) I understand the whole laser burning out, just dont know if you can have it fixed while in game, or its gone for the rest of the game. Thanks all, I really appreciate all the help. Not only do I have a great game, I have super Developers and people here to help me in my really lame moments :-) -
Problems with the Autopilots
FADM Stern GNSF replied to FADM Stern GNSF's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Excellent :-) That explains it now (and just figured out today I can rearm without shutting down lol). Does the same apply when starting a mission where you start with a dead chopper, if so, how can I tell when the INS is alligned and can safely take off. Was getting very frustrating having to fly mission with ALL autopilots shut off lol (yea I know, but I lived a LOT longer fighting the chopper for control, than letting the autopilot kill me). -
Question about the debrief.log file
FADM Stern GNSF replied to FADM Stern GNSF's topic in DCS: Ka-50 Black Shark
Thanks very much for the answer, as just knowing that it is being considered is great :-) This file, while it may bug many others, is an invaluable tool for me and the organization. Sure makes reports a lot easier :-) Yes, I tried Tacview, but didnt give me what i wanted. I prefer the log file, as a player can cut and paste the whole thing into our reporting page, the system converts it and enters all the data for the player (kills, hits, damage, flight time, weapons fired and accuracy, player and plane status, etc). All that is missing now is some form of outcome flag, then the players outcome could be automatically calculated too. -
I have a question, directed to the design staff here, and hopefully one of you can answer a few questions for me. I use this log file to create a readable event log similar to the one Falcon 4 generates. With the information supplied by this file I have been able to run a converter that shows who killed who as well as calculate players flight time and stats. My question is, are there any plans to add to what is output to this file, specifically game triggers or some form of "mission complete" data. While the triggers in the editor can be used to display a message in game (for some reason, only the host gets it), this file does not contain any trigger event data. If there are no plans to add anything to this file, then I will have to make due with what is already there, but if there is a chance more stuff will be added to it, it would be a great asset :-) Thank you

Im not sure if anyone else is having this problem, but its starting to drive me nuts. When I enter a game, all is fine, the 3 autopilots are on and the lights are glowing (after power up). When I push hover hold, i can turn it on and off.... so far, all is great. Now, when I shutdown to rearm, or grab another chopper (which also has a bad habit of turning your view differnt ways each time), the autopilots go out to lunch. The lights light up and say they are one, but they are NOT (big difference in feel between the two states). While the lights on the switches say on (lit), the overhead ones are OFF. The hover hold makes them all flash, and everything goes to hell in ahand basket. Maybe Im missing something, but should not the "auto startup" bring the chopper to SAME SPOT every time ? Sometimes it turns on the ground target and follow target switches (as state they WERE in), and sometimes it doesnt. It seems its a dice roll as to what state your chopper will power up in, and that causes me to not trust half of the systems. If there is something im missing here, someone please help. It gets very frustrating to have a perfect flight, then have everything go to crap when you power up from a rearm :-(

Thanks very much for the info, and I will pass that along. I didnt think it was a BS problem, just wasnt sure if anyone knew what it could be. He tried reinstalling but the result was the same. I will have him dig into this as he runs Vista (I am staying with XP Pro). So far my game is an error free treat :-)

Excellent work. Boy that makes learning the commands a whole lot easier. Thank you for sharing this.

Update :-( seems he now gets the same error when launching a single player game. HELP :-(

I have been doing some flying with another person who also purchased BS from the download site, and all has been well up until today. He opened a server and I joined (like I have done many times so far), but then he locked up. When he tried again, the multiplayer game would not start (single player is working OK). He did a complete reboot on his computer and tried again, getting the same problem. A error box comes up titled "WINDOWS - NO DISK then shows a message in the window of; Exception Processing Message 0xc0000013 Parameters 0x000007FEFE007240 0x0000000000000004 0x000007FEFE007240 0x000007FEFE007240 Any idea what could cause this, as it was working fine then all of a sudden this. Any help would be greatly appreciated Thank you

Can any tell me if there is a way to Lock (or password protect) a mission created for online multiplayer play. Most other game editors allow this, so that once a Mission is made, it can be locked up, preventing others from altering it (maybe to their advantage). Also, there is a setting "USE THESE OPTIONS FOR ANY MISSION" The manual says "When checked, this option will force any mission you fly to use the Options you personally set. If, however, this box is unchecked, the Options used when the mission was created will be used." Does this mean if a player has this selected (and setting set for easy) and joins an online game (everyone set to hard) his settings will work ? I need to make sure that during online play, EVERYONE has the same settings. Thank for any help you can give me :-)

Defcon555 Dont pay too much attention to those that come across in a belittling manner, as I have found most of the people here extreamly nice and helpfull. You always get a few that will have attitude problems or god complexes, it is just that way as in real life. In all my short time here on this forum, I have nothing but good things to say, as I have learned more with the help of people here than i did reading the manual 5 times (yea, and Im getting ready to read it again lol).

I have spent many hours flying this sim (ok, if you count the crashing part as flying) in multiplayer mode, as I must evaluate its feasability for inclusion in our online gaming group. I dont have a machine thats super fast (yours is better than mine) and I have not yet noticed any framerate crash or lagging while playing with 3 others online. Im a F4 player, and I have to say this is the best sim I have ever bought. If your looking for Real, it doesnt get much better. As for companies disappearing, that DOES happen, as its a fact of life. One year, 30 year, who can say. What I CAN say is dont underestimate the power of the gamers. Janes 688 was kept alive long after death by the sim community working with sonalyst members. Games had them bring in the 1.4 patch to help curb cheating. Same for Dangeous Waters, and the creation of the realism mod (LWAMI). I am sure DCS will be here for a long time cranking out great moduals, but if one day they do "become no more", you can bet the sim players (maybe some reading this forum) will pick up the pieces and move forward. Anyway, This is probably the best sim I have purchased, no regrets at all.

Thanks for all the help, I will give the Tacview a try. What I need is a way to get stats (kills, etc) for alll the players in a mutiplayer co-op type game. Something like F4 AF would be nice, where it shows you what you killed/damaged, as well as the status of the mission. These are the stats I need to make group online play "scorable" As for the Respawn feature, I understand what you are saying Chillspider, but what I am looking for is a way to "TURN THIS OFF". I would like to set it up so that once you die.... you are DEAD, and can not re-enter the game (multiplayer only). If it can not be done then I can work around it (like F4, which while it does destroy your platform, will let you pick ANOTHER one). After doing some more testing, it looks like single player DOES create a debrief text file (debrief.log), but the multiplayer doesnt. Thanks for all your help people, you have helped make BS learning a lot easier for me :-)

I have noticed that "left Shift C" will swich the mouse between two modes. One is looking around, the other allows mouse clicks on switches. Every time you hit LSH-C you move to the other state. Hope that helps, as I use this to look down, and then turn on swiches I want on.

Does anyone know if the game provides an after action screen or debreif file when played in online multiplayer mode. I know it shows one in single player (and even writes a debrief.txt file), but it seems in multiplayer it doesnt show anything? Maybe Im doing something wrong, but dont seem to ever get a screen. Also, does multiplayer always provide the option of "jumping back in with another chopper" if you die, or can this be disabled. I would like to use the game as a sim in an online group, but if no stats are available after a multiplayer game, then its simply useless for group online play. Thanks very much for any answers you can give me
