  1. Many thanks for your input. I think I will stick with your idea and use the info bar heading. I had started to over complicate it in my mind, as i wondered if the info bar “heading” was in fact the actual “direction” - accounting for wind as well. Cheers
  2. Ok - just been playing around with instant action mission out of manston and can’t get magnetic compass to vary by more than 2 degrees maximum from external compass, taxiing around the runway. So either I was misreading the magnetic compass in Victory campaign or something weird is going on. More testing/flying needed!
  3. Hi Reflected (or anyone!) I’m having slight problems setting up the directional giro. After starting the engines and doing the usual preflight checks, with the plane stationary on station, there is a 5-10 degree difference (depending on the planes orientation) between the P8 magnetic compass and the magnetic heading shown on the info bar on exterior views. I can’t make up my mind which one is “accurate “ and should therefore be used to set up the directional giro. Given how precise some of the flying needs to be in these missions, any heads up as to which reading is more reliable (or is “referenced” by the mission) would be much appreciated. Apart from that, just more praise for a simply superb suite of missions. Exhausting, thrilling and very informative. In complete awe of the real pilots and your editing and research skills. Cheers
  4. Yep, compromise is definitely king! Coming from a background of sailing and campervans - I have yet to find a perfect one…. As for trackir visuals- they certainly can be amazing. Last night, flying over the Normandy map, heavy cloud and rain - then there was a break in the clouds, sun came through and a rainbow formed ahead of me. I was truly caught out by how stunningly good the programmers have become. Can be a bit of an addictive, financially draining hobby. And I was introduced to it because it was “free” - ha ha indeed. However I haven’t heard of many that have gone back to 2D from VR! Cheers
  5. Just about to take the plunge and buy a quest pro, having “done” all the essential YouTube videos. However this thread has been unbelievably helpful in unpacking the good and the bad and how the hell to get all the different components talking. (Never having tried VR before). Thank you so much Digitalvote for asking all the questions I wanted answers for . Thanks also to all the contributors- your amazing background help is what makes the whole DCS experience so good. I love flying WW2 birds 2D on the newer maps, (even if I am regularly destroyed in MP) - here’s hoping 3D is as good as it sounds!
  6. Thanks for that thought - really appreciated. As I use that computer exclusively for sims and on the back of your comments have looked up what others have said about Defender, that looks like a really simple, sensible plan. Money in the bank for more modules…..
  7. Yep - sadly no difference. Clearly something new from Kapersky. Suspect time has come to change internet security….
  8. Having just waisted last few hours getting nowhere rapidly - I think I agree! ( I think it was the price that lured me initially)
  9. Hope this helps some people. I had same issue with 4YA server and “client is tainted”. Tried every remedy on this forum and some from Reddit. Nothing worked. New problem last week after 1 year without any difficulties. Only recent change has been a new graphics card, but still AMD, so same drivers. Then tried switching Kapersky internet security off. Works faultlessly every time. Switch it back on and same error message every time. So Kapersky seems to be causing the problem for me. I think it is something to do with SRS as it always occurs when that boots up. Now just got to work out how to stop Kapersky interfering. Huge waste of flying time…..

  11. Glad to say I have just flown mission 9 again after latest beta update and take off sequence is all ok again.
  12. For info I’ve just run into the same problem in Beware Beware at the start of mission 9. Running DCS 2.8.0.32937
  13. Good evening. Fingers crossed the random AI S curve formation flying has been squashed in todays update. (2.7.17.29140). Having almost given up on this otherwise brilliant campaign, I flew mission 5 again tonight (after the update) and the AI flight all flew straight and true, when a few days ago it was unplayable unless you ignored yellow 3 and flew your own course. Really looking forward to the rest of these missions now. Once again my thanks (along with many others) for all the work on making this so historically interesting.
  14. Just purchased and launched “mission” 1. What a great introduction to the campaign. I’m still relatively new to DCS but haven’t seen this type of introduction before in other WW2 campaigns. Absolutely brilliant. Really looking forward to rest of campaign now. I desperately need to upgrade my p47 skills - I love it but sooo different to the spitfire. Reading other comments here it looks like I’m in for some fun. Cheers
